CHAPTER 12

I WAS WATCHING A SHOW on TV5 when I heard a car stopping outside suddenly, very close to my house. I could hear the screeching of the brakes and for a moment my heart stopped beating. I expected to hear the loud crash inherent in a car accident, but I heard nothing else but a car door slammed with more force than it would have been necessary.
I wondered if someone had come to visit the people across the street and decided to park their car in my driveway, although I didn’t care too much about that. It wasn’t as if I’d needed it that night, as no one ever visited me.
Nonetheless, then, I heard the bell ringing and that really puzzled me because I was positive that no one would look for me, especially during that evening. Actually, I had never had a visit there since
