Chapter 21
President Smirnov leads the way off the platform and thanks Margaret for speaking to his people. “My family and I would be honored if you could join us for dinner tonight.”
Margaret glances at Ivan and notices his smile. “It would be my pleasure.”
Margaret and her Secret Service detail return to the hotel, but since she has several hours to spare before dinner, she wants to walk around the area. After some misgivings, the Secret Service team accepts her request and accompanies Margaret to the Red Square. The team watches for anyone who might try to harm the Vice President.
A young man approaches, and the team surrounds Margaret. The guy nods to the detail and says to Margaret, “Thank you for visiting our country. You give me hope that, maybe, we can coexist peacefully.”
