Chapter VI Losing Mate

** Idris POV

Minos was yapping in my head with hearts in his eyes screaming mate! How could it be that my mate belonged to the pack all this year's without me knowing? It doesn't make any sense that although the mansion is too big, I have never bumped into her, even once? It was unbelievable how the emotions were so strong although she wass of some distance and up in my tree house. Her face is so beautiful with those longing eyes, button nose and full peach lips. And I like that she's not pail skinned but she has a beautiful sun-kissed skin. Her scent is unforgettable, lemony fresh and almonds, sent me to a daze and made me tipsy from afar, it was incredible!

If it weren't for the pressing crowd, I would've came to her in a blink. Even here in the hallway leading to my room, I can't help but sniff the faint traces of her scent.

"Oh I'm so happy you're home honey," my mom with open arms and a big smile coming down from the hallway, Dad was tagging behind her.

She gave me a warm hug, "I've missed you so much," then cupped my face and kissed both my cheeks. Dad rolled his eyes.

I hugged her back and I noticed that same scent was on my mom and I can't help but sniffed it.

"Hey Mom, how are you?" I broke our hug , "Where have you been? Why you smell like that?"

She and Dad looked at each other with slight confusion in their faces.

"Well, I've been everywhere around today. I wanted to make sure everything is perfect for your arrival," mom shrugged. I made a small nod. Then Dad came and gave me a quick hug.

"I'm so happy you're back son," Then looked me in the eye with a big grin. "The pack is ready for their new Alpha," I chuckled.

"I'm sure. I'll see you too later, need to freshen up,"

I turned to go inside my room an when I opened my door, her scent filled up my nostrils that I was taken aback

'Shit.' My heart was thumping. 'She's been to my room??'

'Mate! Mate was here!' It was Minos jumping around. 'Find mate!'

"What's the mother, honey?" Mom looked concerned walking over to me.

"Huh? No n-nothing mom.. everything's fine," I lied. Why was she in my room, does she know I'm her mate? "Who has been here?"

My parents shared a puzzled look and I'm starting to feel dumb. It was Dad who answered.

"Well, most likely the omegas. Why is everything alright son?"

He stepped in the room and scanned it then sniffed the air. "It's clean and smells fresh, is anything out of place?"

An Omega-what the heck!? My mate is an Omega, you gotta be kidding me! I hear Minos' protest and blocked him.

"It's fine Dad, probably just jet lag. See you two later,"

I can barely hide my irritation. I waited by the door so they can step out. Dad seemed reluctant to leave then I caught his knowing look before he went out. I held my gaze firmly to stop any suspicion. I can't have a freaking Omega as a mate, Moon Goddess definitely lost it this time!

After they left, I closed the door and rested my back against it. I felt stupid waiting all these years just to find out she has always been here and a freaking Omega! But her scent is irisistable. Can't help but inhale it as if it's my oxygen. It was so damn sweet and refreshing that it eases the stress that's building up in me. My eyes landed on the bed and I walked to it and slumped my body face down on the side mattress. And I can't help but grab the sheets and bring it to my nose tracing the faint smell of her left all over it.

'Did she make my bed, too?' I wondered. I heard Minos' whimpered telling me our feelings are synced at that moment. But no, hell no.. The Moon Goddess made a mistake for giving this pack a Luna who is of the lowest rank. What will the pack think of me?

"No, Minos it's isn't happening."

Down in the garden, I hear music playing and people chattering. The mansion is packed tonight as we have invited allied packs. As I stepped in view at the top of the stairs, people started clapping and cheering. I raised a hand to acknowledge them and gave a warm smile. As I walk down I notice Raquel with heavy make up waiting at the foot of the stairs beside her mischievous-looking uncle. A big grin was on her face slowly gliding out the side of her thigh from the high slit of her dress. The low-cut gown exposing her overly sized breast obviously made to seduced me.

I tried to hide my smirk at her cheapness. I can have that vulgarity whenever I want but not at a special occasion like tonight. Nevertheless, I consider myself a gentleman and wouldn't want to embarrass anyone. I offered my arms to her for a show as I reached the landing.

"Hello darling, how have you been?" She purred brushing her breast against my arms and I laugh in my head discovering I don't even find her attractive. But being a man, I can't say she's not doing a good job so far. I gave her a small smile.

"Everything's cool,"

"Alpha Idris," Her uncle, Alpha Nicholas beamed. "It's a pleasure to finally see you take your place, this has been long overdue," The side of my mouth twitch at his pretense nature.

'Overdue my face, old ass!' I gave him a small nod. They have been desperately pushing for Racquel's union with me and I know it's because their pack is going bankrupt.

"It's nice to have you here," I greeted back in a dull voice.

"Idris!"

It was Baron with a big smile on his face heading towards us with arms open. I felt so relieved to get away from this two garbage. I quickly took my arm away from where Racquel was clinging to and ignored as she slightly lost balance.

I jog to Baron and we did our familiar "Gotcha Dude," greeting. A quick, firm hand shake, then lightly bumping one shoulder against each other while tapping each other's back. It doesn't end there, we grip our four fingers while tapping on each other's thumb, pulling away then slapping our palms and the back of our hands before pretending to smack each other's fists. It was boyish but it was one of our small bonds being the best of friends. in the corner of my eye, I saw mom and dad shaking their heads at us smiling.

"Welcome back, dude." Baron gave me a quick warm hug and I did the same.

"Happy to see you," we broke our hug. "How's the pre-Dad life?" I chuckled.

"Ugh, boys will be boys." Mia teased, coming up from behind him.

I came to her surprised to find her bump is very obvious.

"Mia," I kissed her cheek and squeezed her shoulder lightly, fearing it might hurt her baby if I hug her. "Beautiful as ever, how are you?"

Baron placed his arms around her shoulders leaving me jealous at the sight of them.

"Getting ahead of you bro," he said with pride, referring to their soon to be born baby.

I just laughed but somewhere deep in my heart, there's a longing for a mate and having an heir of my own.

"How's my nephew, down there?"

I leaned forward so my ear is close to her belly, my face serious, intently listening as if I'll hear some response. The group laughed and so did people close by.

"Great. Comical Alpha," Nicholas gritted in his teeth.

"Excuse me?"

Unable to hide the irk that instantly build inside me. This guy gets to my nerves, makes me want to punch his face. The group felt my uneasiness as his eyes and Racquel's eyes both widen, shocked that I heard him.

One of the qualities of an Alpha is having highly sensitive senses. We see better than 20/20 vision from great distance making us easy to zone out a prey. Our ears hear from a mile away and our feet in human form can detect danger from a few kilometers distance. Super qualities not all wolves of or the lower rank have. Hundred percent of the time we're the first to sense discord in air within the pack or outside the borders.

"H-he just thinks you're cool that's all," Racquel sheepishly grinned.

Nicholas made a step back when my eyes flickered, one the sign of a wolf going into attack mode. What does this trash think I am, anyway? Not all Alphas are brooding, aggressive or grumpy, we know how to have a good time.

'Annoying little prick!' And for the first time in the day I agreed with Minos.

"Idris, son." Dad stepped in and pressing a hand on my shoulder, which succeeded in calming me down.

"Let's get ready the ceremony is about to start,"

He gestured me and Baron to follow him which we did. Mom and Mia behind tailing behind us leaving the two dumb duo behind.

The ceremony started right away. My Father's Beta to speak first to announce the new third in command, Gamma Lee. Then Baron as the new Beta, before he passed the microphone to my Dad. My father did a short speech about his retirement and looking around at the pack listening intently, it is evident how they respected and love him.

Suddenly, I felt breaking of a bond, as if someone left the pack. I looked at my dad who paused and met my eyes as if he knows. But I couldn't make of what his look means, although I suspect he felt it too, after all he's an Alpha.

Thereafter, a burning sensation crept up in my stomach that made my face barely twitched in pain. I felt as if a part of me was taken away and dejection starting to eat away on me. Dad turned back to the crowd as if dismissing the matter.

"And so it's my honor to pass the duties and responsibilities to your new Alpha, who will lead you with the same passion according to the law of the Crystal Crescent Pack,"

He brought out his hand as a gesture for me to step up front. I did reluctantly feeling my feet are getting heavy as my body slowly commencing in agony.

'Mate! Mate left!' Minos cried clearly feeling the same pain I do.

"Your new leader, Alpha Idris," he announced with pride.

Everybody howled in victory and as tradition dictates, the third and second in command as well as the Alpha, must shift for their wolves to be known. And so we three did.

Mine, a huge, shiny black wolf with a patch of crescent moon on his forehead and raging blood eyes came out. And while everyone is howling in triumph, Minos and I did in sorrow..
