Chapter I Life at the pack
It was an icy night. The kind where the cold pierce the skin and sends chills all over the body. The wind blew that made her hug her hooded jacket close to her body, shivering while walking down the woods. Sounds of crickets and the flapping of leaves reign in the air. She's uncertain why she's in the woods in the middle of the night, at the same time scared of being alone. Up ahead, the fog is slowly fading revealing a lake, dark and mysterious. It's waters reflecting the moon and stars. She looked up to admire the moon and hear it whisper her name. "Aura.." Another whoosh of the wind that made her gaze return to the lake. Her eyes widened as she sees a woman with long white hair standing by the lake. Her brows furrowed as the woman slowly turned, revealing a twin, but with yellow pair of eyes.. She gasped as it called her name. She steps back, fear and confusion overcoming her. The fog thickens again as she gets lost in perplexity. Her name is being called repeatedly.. she covers her ears with her hands and closed her eyes wishing it will all go away. 'Stop! Stop! Please stop..' "Stop it! Hey! Aura wake up!" She was awaken by a strong shake on her shoulders. Her eyes light brown eyes slowly opened adjusting to their dimly lit crammed room. She shares it with Jane and two other Omegas. The room is big enough for them to move about. There are two double deck beds, one bedside table and two cabinets for their clothes. The room also has a small toilet and shower. "Hey, are you okay?" Jane asked, worry in her eyes. Aura abruptly sat up from her bed, catching her breath, "Oh goddess," Jane frowned, "Bad dream?" Aura nodded. "Thought so.. C'mon, it's time to make breakfast." She watch her friend leave the room. She ran her fingers through her long black hair, still puzzled with the weird dream she just had. She decided to let it go and get ready for the day. As an omega, she has a lot of things to take care of. She made her bed and changed to an oversized t-shirt, tight leggings and a pair of old sneakers. Upon peeking at her alarm clock on the bed side table, it shows her she needs to move quickly. She hurried to the bathroom while collecting her hair to a bun. Then she quickly washed her face and brushed her teeth. When she was done she jogged to the hall going to the kitchen and was greeted with the other omegas getting busy preparing breakfast. She quickly wore one of the aprons that hang on the wall. "Ahh the beauty is awake! I see you took your time dreaming of your prince again?" The elderly woman teased. "She had a nightmare this time, have a heart!" Jane defending her as she fixes the bread. "Morning, Linda!" Aura gave her a quick squeeze on her shoulders while the elderly is stirring something in the pot. "I'm sorry everyone," Then she quickly helped out in the busy kitchen. Linda laughed, "Relax girl, we all love yah! Here, get this soup and bring it upstairs to the Alpha's office he's too busy today to come down," Aurora quickly nodded and took the tray from Linda with a smile. "Don't forget to bring some garlic bread now," "Yup!" She snatched a plate from the counter and put the bread there. Then she squeezed her way through the busy people and hurried up to the Alpha's office. She stops at a thick black door at the end of the hallway on the third floor and pressed the buzzer. The walls and door of this office is so thick that a knock can barely be heard. "Come in," An authoritative voice from the intercom which she immediately recognized is the Alpha of the Crystal Crescent Pack She held her breath and pushed the heavy door, obviously not having an easy time. A big hand helped her open it, revealing an impatient face. "Damn, you omegas need more exercise I swear!" He sat back on one of the chairs in front of the Alpha. "Good morning, Alpha Manson, Beta Johnson." She received a nod from both. She quickly went to the table to place the tray of breakfast. She notice the Alpha looking at her but which made her feel uneasy. "Thank you," The Alpha smiling at her. "What's your name dear?" "Random," Johnson chuckled. "Johnson," the Alpha with a hint of warning in his tone. Aurora's head hung low. Although she often gets fun of by pack members, it still hurts everytime. "My name is Aura, sire." She answered quietly. "How old are you?" He continued to asked her that left her wondering where the conversation is going. In her years in the pack, she can count the Alpha only talked to her twice and the second time is today. She started to get nervous and confused at the same time. Why is he asking her questions? She's just an omega! She cleared her throat before answering again. "I'll be 20, sire." While she poured them coffee. "T-tomorrow," "Oh? Well, happy birthday in advance!" The Alpha greeted her cheerfully. While the beta greeted her too, he sounded disinterested, focused on his mobile phone. "What are your plans for tomorrow, going out with your mate?" She was so shocked, her hand trembled that made her spilled a bit of coffee on the table. "I-I have none, Alpha." She quickly wiped the spilled liquid using her apron. "J-just spending time with f-friends," The Alpha nodded smiling. "Sounds good.. What's your birthday wish?" She was even more astonished, wondering if the Alpha is serious. Her mouth slightly open to answer but she closed it again, deciding she should be cautious. "I'm feeling like a genie today ready to give away wishes," he grinned as he inspect the folder on his desk. While the beta smirked at what Alpha Manson announced. She felt pressured as her eyes darted from the beta to the alpha. "Well..?" It was Johnson. "I-I.." her brows meet while looking on her pair of old shoes, fingers playing her apron. "I.." The two men looked in anticipation. It was so hard for to believe the situation she's in that she's not sure if she should say the one wish she have all her life. "I-I wish to look for my p-parents of you w-will Alpha," she said quietly she's not sure if they even heard her. She checked the Alpha's reaction whose smile faded, nodding slowly. She was reminded of being alone again, no mate, no wolf and an orphan. She has long suspected she is different which created a desire in her to leave outside the borders. Find where she belongs and see what life lies ahead of her, outside the pack lands. "Daring" Johnson remarked. "Indeed.." the Alpha agreed which made her heart beat fast. 'Damn, I don't want to be in trouble!' she thought. "Nothing wrong with it but obviously needs more thought on my end," it was the Alpha Man "I'll let you know by tomorrow," She sighed in relief feeling a thorn has been plucked out from her heart. She slightly bowed to the leader of the pact. "Thank you with all my heart, Alpha. This pack is ever lucky to have an Alpha like you," feeling warm waters in her eyes. "Please enjoy your breakfast," She turned to leave and once the door shut behind her, she let out a big sigh of relief. She was in a cheerful mood heading down stairs. She was amazed at Alpha Manson's leadership and appreciated how he looks ate everybody in the same level. She never expected he would give her the time of day let alone grant her a birthday wish. It brought a new spark of hope in her promising a future she had always hoped for. She was humming as she turn to the dining room when she bumped into a pack member in a hurry with his knapsack. "Hey watch it!" she realize it was Lee, the Gamma's son. "Ugh!" He made sure to make a disgusting gesture before shoving her aside. "Aww.." she muttered, touching her arms that hit the wall. Slightly shaking her head, she went inside to help with the plates on the dining table. Not a second later, a group of pack members swarm inside the room, one of them bumped her that caused her to lose her balance. She rolled her eyes. "Stupid Omega," The girl said with a hiss. She quickly went out of the way and on her way back to the kitchen when another member called her. "Hey you," in a bossy tone. She recognized it's the second son of the Beta, looking very much like him. Plus he's also an ass like his father. He tossed her a folder with thick papers inside and she struggled to catch it. "Get it done tonight. I want ASAP!" He warned pointing at her. She nodded slowly and about to leave when a warrior blocked her way. His face was so close to hers she can smell his breath on her face. "Hey, I need room service.." he said in a too s****l tone while licking his upper lip. She gritted her teeth in disgust while someone from the crowd whistled and they all laughed. She nodded quickly with less alertness this time, then turn her back away immediately. This is the part of day that she hated the most, bumping with Horny Harry who probably had s*x with the rest of the willing single she-wolves in the pack but her. He slapped her butt that made her rolled her eyes the crowd's laughter even grew louder. "Harry!" A shout from the door reproaching the scene. It was Baron, the eldest son of the beta who is now active in partially doing beta work as the successor to his father. "How many reminders do you need for you to remember, that kind of behavior is not encouraged in this pack!" Hearing Harry being reprimanded, she quickly made an exit. Back at the kitchen, she sat in front of the counter and as she sees the bag of vegetables that made her sigh heavily. She took a knife and started peeling.
