Chapter 1

Vivienne's POV The stares I was given with each step I took sent weird signals to my mind. I held the box of cookies I held tighter than normal to eliminate the uneasiness I felt. I didn't let that stop me, though. This was not the first time I was coming into the pack house. My mate, Scott, was the son of the Alpha, and I always came here. Not once have there been this sort of look from the servants when I walk in here. I felt the tension. It felt as though they were telling me to go back, but why? Why should I leave? I wanted to see my mate. I travelled and just came back, meaning it has been a week since we saw each other. “Are you feeling this, too?” Maya, my wolf, asked, and I hummed, staring back at the last set of maids that was staring at me. I shut my eyes and shook my head, trying to shake off the feeling. I was not informed of anything happening in the pack house today, and it did not seem like it either. Or was it the Alpha? He travelled to the human city for work, but it did not seem like he was back just yet. I threw their attitude over my shoulder, as I did not want that to ruin my mood. However, just a few steps forward and a maid rushed over to where I was scaring me. “What is it?” I asked, my heart already pounding in fear. The maid smiled and shook her head. “I just wanted to show you something.” the maid said. I stared at her skeptically for a moment. Usually, I was shown a few things around the pack house. I was close to the servants because I saw them as my own. If Scott became Alpha, I would be Luna, and I needed to act like one. Hesitantly, I stroked a nod. “Sure,” I said, and the maid began moving quickly. I had to speed up to get to her. "Whatever you want to show me, does it need my attention so urgently?” I asked, and the maid said nothing. I sighed and just joined her. She led me to the kitchen, and the maid moved away. Dragging my eyes away from them, I turned toward the maid who led me here. “What did you want to show me?” I asked. “We were preparing Prince Scott's favorite dish. We wanted you to taste it and tell us if we did well.” the maid told me. I moved closer to the boiling pot, and the maid dished out some for me before handing it over. I glanced around at all the maids before taking a spoon. I smiled, then nodded. "It's okay. Just a little salt will do.” I told them, which they all nodded to before I walked out of the kitchen. “What if it was poisoned?” Maya asked. “Do you feel poisoned?” I asked, even though I was skeptical myself. However, what might be the reason for them to poison me? For as long as I've been here, no one has seemed to have such a motive for me. “I don't.” Maya replied. “Then let's hope it remains so.” I told her as I walked towards Scott's room. “Lady Vivienne,” someone called, and I paused, turning in the direction I was called. It was another maid. She has a bright smile on her face. Unlike other maids, I was closer to her. “Eliza,” I said as we hugged. "You didn't inform us you would come back today.” she said as she pulled away. “I wanted to surprise Scott,” I replied, which she nodded to. "That's great. Would you mind joining me? I have a few things to tell you and show you,” she said. "Can it wait? I really need to-” “Lady Vivienne,” the other maid called. She bowed. “Please join me.” she said and began running off. I glanced at Eliza before joining the maid. Again, I was led to the kitchen. "I think I put too much salt.” a maid said. I was about to taste it when another maid 'mistakenly' threw a whole bottle of salt in the pot. “Okay, I need answers. What's going on?” I asked, visibly upset. The maids all glanced at themselves avoiding my gaze. I turned to Eliza. "Tell me what is going on.” I said and then laughed erupted throughout the pack house. I recognized that laugh anywhere. It was Scott's, but also someone I did not expect to see here. I walked out quickly. "Lady-” Eliza tried to stop me, but I rushed out before she could. I got close to Scott's room, and it was no longer laughter I heard. It was moaning. “No,” I muttered. It could not be. Through the small space left for the door to be shut, I saw them. My mate was having s*x with my step-sister. “Oh, baby, you are so good. Better than Vivienne.” Scott moaned louder. My eyes immediately filled with tears. “When you reject her, you would enjoy this and more.” Ava told him. I did not want this to be real. Could it? Maybe I was dreaming. My chest rose and fell with emotions. My tears rolled down my cheeks. Maya was in pain. I was in pain. My entire body felt weak. It just could not be true. How could he do this to me? The book of cookies I held fell to the ground, catching their attention. Sluggishly, I took my eyes to the box, my tears finding its way to the marble floor. I heard footsteps, but I could not raise my head to know who it was. “Ugh,” I heard my step-sister gag. “Vivienne,” Scott's mocking tone did not go unnoticed. “You didn't inform me you were coming. Are the cookies for me? You were always so thoughtful.” he went on. I raised my head. “You-” I bit my lip. The words were too hard, too far from me. “You cheated.” I told him. “Oh, he didn't cheat on you.” Ava said. "You are a worthless piece of trash. Why do you think he would fall in love with you? Because you two are mates? Think again,” she added, then moved closer to him. They kissed in front of me, their tongues entangling and Scott pulling her closer to him. I rushed forward and pulled them apart. “Stop it!” I barked, and a slap landed on my cheek, sending a burning sensation to my face. “Don't you ever touch me, do you understand?” Ava pointed at me. "Vivienne, don't do this to yourself.” he moved closer to me, raising his right hand. My heartbeat sped up. I shook my head. "No, no, Scott.” I said, my voice cracked “I, Prince Scott, reject you Vivienne as my mate.” he pronounced. I felt the pain sink into my soul. I held my chest as the heavy and sharp pain filled my heart. I bent over. “Accept his rejection.” Ava said with gritted teeth. I shook my head. I could not. We were mates. I fell to the ground. “It'll keep hurting Vivienne until you accept my rejection.” Scott said. I shut my eyes as the pain shot up. With shaky hands, I raised my palm to face him. “I, Vivienne, accept your rejection.” I said, and I fell flat on the floor, breathing heavily but not completely relieved from the pain of his rejection.
