Xander’s POV
“Sin and Adam up next.," I announced. Man, that last fight sucked, neither one of them were good, I was hoping it was going to get more interesting.
I watched as Sin and Adam stepped to the center of the ring. Adam had been training with Jake for a couple of weeks, so I knew he had some potential. I watched as Adam circled her like a tiger closing in on his prey and she just stood there. She was completely relaxed, no signs of fear, she just watched him. To say I was intrigued didn't even began to come close to explain how I felt.
Finally, he attacked swiftly and grabbed her waist like a rag doll, but before I could blink, she twisted so quick and used all the force he had used against her while pinning him to the ground, he lashed out and struggled against her until he wore himself out and tapped the ground to tap out. She stepped back and lent her hand down to help him stand but he wasn’t all too happy, he just slapped her hand away and she smiled at him none the less.
I would never admit it, but she surprised me, especially when she walked back to the side and stood. She didn’t stand there like a spoiled brat or like she was full of pride, she stood like a soldier, standing at attention, emotionless.
“Sin and Scott up next.”
I watched her closely, still emotionless she stepped back to the center and faced Scott. I almost laughed out loud when the first thing he did was a round house kick, and she caught his leg midair slinging him back on his rear. She didn’t attack however she stepped back and let him back on his feet. He came up and all you could see on his face was anger, he started trying to punch her and she blocked them with ease, but that wasn’t impressive, he was a beginner and was fighting off of anger, not at all fighting with his head. I looked at Sin and finally, emotion flashed through her eyes, boredom, she was becoming bored with it all, of all the emotions for her to portray, boredom was what she showed. The last punch he threw she grabbed his arm and quickly pulled him to her turning him in one swift move and pulling his arm behind him. I watched him wince in pain, he was trying to get her with his other good arm but whatever she was doing with the other arm behind his back he was weakening fast, and after just a minute with tears running down his face he submitted. Again, she offered to shake his hand before walking back to the side and standing at attention.
I glanced over to the other ring and noticed Jess was still standing, she looked awful however, her hair was everywhere, looked like she had a busted lip, but she was still fighting. I should have known Jake would get the strong ones in his group. Sin had to be the smallest person in this group, she couldn’t weigh more than one hundred pounds and she stood maybe 5’3”, her hair was still perfectly pulled back not a hair out of place. I wanted to see what she was really made of and these guys weren’t getting anywhere, she already had my dad, sister, mother and Jake in awe, now I wanted to see.
I focused my attention back to the remaining ones I had in my ring, “Sin, James you two are the last ones standing in this ring, since you are fresh James and Sin just fought two in a row it is only fair if we give her a few minutes…”
“All do respect Sir, I do not need a few minutes, I can continue,” she interrupted finally making eye contact with me instead of standing at attention. Her eyes showed nothing but respect and confidence.
I again didn’t want to admit it, but I was intrigued. “Very well then, please step to the center.” I watched as James smirked at the young girl and they made their way to the center.
“Little girl you are no match for us men, why don’t you just submit now before you get hurt.” James taunted her.
She crossed her arms and squinted her eyes at him, “Seriously, you think you will make me submit. I don’t think so, I may not be a match for you or any of the others, but you do not rule me, I will not be beneath you. And as far as getting hurt, give it your best shot.” And she smiled, she actually smiled, and I could feel a smile trying to creep across my own face.
James was angry at her words, he lunged at her with his shoulder turned into catch her in the abdomen, she was ready for it though, just as he contacted with her abdomen, she wrapped her legs around him and grabbed his head in a hold, causing him to lose balance and hit the ground with her underneath him, I swear I heard her shoulder pop, but she never made a sound. James arms were flailing around as he sent punch after punch to her rib cage, from where I was it looked like he got four good hits on her before she wiggled around and re-positioned herself and flipped him over pulling his leg to his nose and pinning his arm behind his head. He was fighting with all he had in him, and she never let up, she continued to tighten her hold.
I noticed that she looked a little weaker in the arm that he landed on and her shoulder looked funny, but I figured it was the way she was holding him, until my father ran over to us, “Boy you have to call this round, she is hurt.”
“What are you talking about she looks fine to me.” I pointed at her holding James.
“Her shoulder is out of place.” He growled at me.
“With all due respect to both of you, this fight is not over yet, and there have been no rules broken so you will let me finish.” I looked over at her wondering how in the world she heard us from all the way over there with James screaming the way he was?
“Well, you heard her dad.” He didn’t look happy, but who was I to call it, he heard her himself.
Maybe she would just give up after this. After a few more minutes I heard James submit. Sin immediately climbed off him and again offered her hand to help him up, unlike the others he took her hand and stood, telling her it was a pleasure.
I watched her closely as she walked over to me very confidently, but I noticed her arm was hanging odd and now I could see the way the shoulder was out of place. She stopped just a foot from me. “You did good, but I am afraid that you can’t continue with that shoulder, you need to go to the infirmary.” I stated while pointing at her shoulder.
“Would you stop ordering me around for a minute and help, I need you to hold my arm for a second please,” I was speechless, I have never heard anyone beneath me speak in such a manner, I shook it off and I grabbed her arm, “Both hands please, and I need you to hold as tight as you can. Both hands here.” She moved my hands to her wrist, and I nodded my head showing her I was ready, I wasn’t quite sure for what but I was ready.
She closed her eyes and inhaled deeply and then jerked her arm with so much force it almost made me lose my balance. I probably looked a little bewildered as I held her arm wondering how something so little could be so strong.
With that one strong yank I heard her shoulder pop, and she muttered some words under her breath before opening her eyes. “You can turn loose now and thank you.” I let go of her arm like it was fire and had just burnt me and she just giggled. She took her other hand and started rubbing her shoulder and rolling it around as she walked off. “See no need for infirmary. All good. I will be ready when you tell me to.”
And with that she went to stand at attention in the outer side of the ring leaving me dumbfounded and feeling a little intimidated. This young girl just pulled a move that I had never seen done before to fix herself and then acted like nothing more than a charlie horse was wrong. And I wasn't even including the amount of force I felt with her one sudden jerk to put it back.
“I see son you are starting to see what I was talking about.” My dad whispered. I didn't even know he had came back to my side, or when for that matter.
“Yea I am a little fascinated to say the least.” I really didn’t care how I sounded, "What's her story anyway?"
“Not my story to tell, but when she is ready and feels you are trustworthy, she will tell you.” He smirked and walked away.
He walked to Sin and said something to her, and she just smiled and left the ring. I on the other hand made my way to the other ring where Jake was.
“Hey man, how’s it going?” He looked deep in thought.
“What are you doing over here, don’t you have tryouts in your own ring going on?” He grumbled.
“All done over there, just waiting on these guys to get done.” I pointed to where two guys were in the ring fighting.
“Well, we still have one more fight left after this, so far Jess is still standing, but barely. I thought you said she was strong.” I could tell he was aggravated about something.
“Oh, she is, you must have some good competitors over here though.”
“Xander they were all good strong competitors, and they would all make great assets to the team.” He finally glanced over at me, “Wait did you say you are all done over there?” I nodded, “Who is left standing?”
“Well Sin is actually.” Running my hand through my hair I could barely believe I was saying it myself.
“That’s what I wanted to hear.” He went back to watching the ring, with a prideful smile gracing his face.
I stood and watched the two boys in the ring until finally the one submitted, Jake called Jess and the last boy standing to the ring and they squared up. Jess looked like she had been in a battle with a bull. I could see her nails were broke and a couple of them bleeding. Her lip was busted and looked like she was going to have a black eye. Her blonde hair looked like a bird had nested in it and made a home. I found myself comparing her to Sin, Sin was unscathed, and even with her shoulder out of place she walked away unaffected. Jess stood in the ring like she owned the place with so much pride and yet Sin was humble, she even tried to show good sportsmanship toward others after she had beat them. I knew Jess knew better, I had trained her myself, I knew she was not weak, but I couldn't help but admit how strong Sin seemed to be as well, and I continued comparing the two.
Shake it off Xander, I mentally chanted to myself.
Jess and the other boy started circling each other, one move led to another and Jess was on the ground like a rag doll under the boy. After a few minutes she wiggled free and flipped him over, but she couldn’t get the upper hand. I watched for a good thirty minutes before Jess finally got the upper hand and pinned the boy causing him to submit.
“She isn’t too bad man.” Jake punched me in the shoulder. I smiled, and nodded, she did make me proud, but I couldn't stop comparing her and Sin. “Why don’t we give them all an hour for rest before we complete the final rounds.”
Jess ran to me and wrapped her arms around me, “Hey babe." She waved her hand in her face like she was on fire and trying to cool off. “Sheesh these boys thought they had me because I am some silly girl, but I showed them. You should have seen it. I beat them in record time too.” She boasted. I really wanted to roll my eyes at her, but I just smiled instead, no Sin beat them in record time, and unscathed on top of that. “I could really use a break before we finish the afternoon, what do you say?” She stuck her lip out and batted her eyes.
“Jake, I think we will give them an hour break as you suggested. We will meet back in Ring A at one pm.” I grabbed Jess’ hand and she hissed in pain. “Sorry baby, let’s go get you all cleaned up.” I pulled her back toward the facility infirmary, while she whined the whole way.
