CHAPTER 24

SHOPPING 2 AMERIE/JESSICA “Nothing, Alpha. The Luna was just asking some questions about the items,” she says, her voice and composure changing. “Flower?” Nathan raises my head to his face. “Why are your eyes wet?” His green eyes cloud with worry. “What happened? Did she say something to you?” “Nothing. She didn’t say anything,” I lie, blinking and wiping my eyes. “It’s just excitement, knowing I will own such essentials.” I give him a smile, yet his eyes don’t change. “Are you sure?” he asks, glancing suspiciously at Christabel. “Yes,” I nod at him. “I have a request though.” “Anything, Flower.” “Can we come back another time? Please? I feel exhausted and hungry.” “Yes, we can,” he says, pulling me close, something I have come to understand will be constant with him. “Christabel, pack all of them and send to the house. Tyler will settle you.” With that, we leave the shop, but not without Christabel glaring at me. “You’re quiet,” Nathan notes on our way back home. “I am just tired,” I murmur into his chest, lying again. Christabel’s words haven’t stopped swirling in my mind. Was she right to say the goddess was wrong to pair me with Nathan? “Did Christabel say something to you?” he presses on. I can feel the tension rising in his body, his eyes flickering between his and his wolf’s. I hug him, inhaling his scent. “It’s fine. Nothing happened.” “I won’t like it if I find out later something happened and you hid it from me,” he warns me. Should I tell him the truth and have him deal with her? What will be her punishment? Alphas don’t take it lightly when their mates are disrespected because it is a disrespect to them too. Christabel not only mocked me, she mocked him and called the plans of the goddess a mistake. “Jessica, don’t keep secrets from me,” he pleads, a warning underlying his tone. “Who is she to you?” He takes a deep breath, his heart thudding loudly in his chest. “We had s*x once. A long time ago,” he confesses and my body stills. “It was nothing, just s*x. Flower, she means nothing to me.” I don’t understand what he means by ‘just sex.’ Don’t people keep themselves for their mates? Kizziah told me mates keep themselves pure, waiting for their fated mates. Though Saul wasn’t my fated mate, his father ensured he didn’t touch me because he wanted me to be pure when we mated for the first time. Why did my mate not keep himself for me? His sister said he’s had many women, which means he wasn’t thinking of me or keeping himself for me. I pull away softly from him, moving to the other side of the car. He holds my hand, refusing to let go. “Flower, talk to me,” he pleads. I look up at him, seeing the remorse. “She’s not the only one…you had others.” He shuts his eyes, sinking his chin into his chest. “They meant nothing.” “All of them?” “All of them.” How can he sleep with all those women and they meant nothing to him? I frown, trying to understand his words and actions. “Can I also sleep with other men too?” His head snaps up, and his wolf registers his presence as both growl. “No man will touch you!” NATHAN What is my Flower saying? Asking if she can also sleep with other men. That is not ever going to happen while I am still alive. What did Christabel say to her? “Stop the car and leave us!” I roar, ordering the driver out of the car. He stops the car, scurrying out immediately. I felt antsy while waiting for her at Christabel’s boutique. Something was telling me I made a grave mistake taking her there. We were already inside before I realized my mistake. The euphoria of shopping with her and seeing her child-like wonder must have clouded my judgment. Coupled with the joy of me pampering my mate. “But, you did. Why can’t I?” Jessica asks when we are alone. Rage courses through me that my mate is thinking of sleeping with other men. How can she even think so? Yet, I don’t hold it against her. Her question obviously shows my mate has a lot to learn about relationships, s*x, the world, and our kind in general. Being locked away from the rest of the world definitely affected her. “Because you’re my mate and I have found you,” I explain, hating how she gently pulls her hand away from mine. “What if you didn’t find me? Would you still have continued with those women?” her innocent eyes search mine. Her innocence is a blessing and a curse right now. Yet, I am grateful for her innocence. “Yes,” I confess. There’s no need to hide the truth since that was what I planned on doing.
