CHAPTER 20

1008 Words
AMERIE/JESSICA FAMILY TIME My mate’s sister and mother have kept me busy since we arrived. They haven’t stopped teasing me about him, making me tell them more about my feelings for him—something I have not even told him. Both fawn over him, and his mother brought out his baby pictures to show me. I couldn’t help but burst out laughing at seeing my mate’s naked baby picture. His piercing green eyes stand out in all his pictures. She made me promise not to tell him she showed me. “He hates seeing them, so don’t let him know.” “But he should. He looks cute,” I smile at the picture of my mate in diapers, looking up at the camera. His green eyes holding the camera with an intense gaze. I wish I had pictures of myself to see how I looked. “You’re his mate. Maybe if you tell him, he will listen,” Cara places her chin on my shoulder in a way someone close to you would do. I am still trying to adjust to being accepted by them. “You look like someone he will listen to.” Turning to her, I meet green eyes that make me suddenly miss my mate. “Why do you say that?” She and her mother exchange mischievous looks. “You’re his first,” his mother says with a hint of playfulness in her eyes and voice. “First?” I c**k my head at Cara, who closes her eyes, a dreamy smile on her face. “Nate has never brought any female into his room.” “Or even to the house,” his mother adds, grinning. “We all thought he would remain mateless.” “Why would you think so?” My mate is a handsome specimen. No female would not want him. “Is there something wrong with him?” I pray she says no. “Something wrong with Nate?” Cara squeezes her face, arching a brow. “More like there’s something wrong with those females. There’s nothing wrong with him, dear sister.” Her words of endearment touch my heart, and when she shifts to Lay her head on my lap, my dreams look like they are coming true. I always yearned to have a sister to play with like this. “They are all after his name and wealth.” My insides boil at the thought of some females wanting my mate. “He knows and keeps them just as flings. Nothing more. Though they would like for there to be more, he’s more focused on the pack.” I still don’t feel placated, knowing my mate has been with other women. “So, he’s been with them? All?” “Jessica, darling,” his mother holds my hands, squeezing them lightly as if she can read my emotions. “Why don’t we…” she pauses mid-sentence, receiving a link. Cara snaps her head off my lap, also receiving a link. Both look at each other, sharing a knowing look. “Would you like to see my room, Jessica?” “Your room?” My eyes dart at the two as they help me up. “Yes, sure.” I have never seen another girl’s room. “Let’s all go,” Cara says excitedly and starts to drag me outside. They peep outside, looking left and right and sneak with me along the corridor. “Why are we sneaking?” I ask in confusion. “We’re playing a game called hide and sneak,” Cara giggles, holding me to her side. “Who are we hiding from?” “Someone,” her mother replies, her eyes twinkling with mischief. “Who?” I ask as we stop at a door and enter. “Tada!” Cara spreads her arms out. “This is my room.” “Your room?” My eyes widen again, and I wonder if I will ever get used to such wealth. Her room is almost three times the size of my room at Kizziah’s pack. A large golden wardrobe with three doors stands at one side of the room; beside it is a dressing mirror with so many items on it. “You like it?” she says, pulling me with her to the wardrobe. “I like it,” I mumble, still entranced by the place. I don’t like it. I love it and wish I had something like this. I especially love her bed. I can bet it’s going to be soft. The light blue covers instantly call out to me to come rest my body on it. “We need to find you a dress. Nate may stay out long and forget you need a dress,” Cara mumbles as she starts digging into her wardrobe. “We will take her shopping tomorrow, but she needs a dress for tonight’s dinner. And something to sleep in,” her mother joins her at the wardrobe. “There’s a dinner?” My palms start to sweat as anxiety floods me. “Yes, your mate is introducing you to the pack,” Cara comes out with a blue dress. “It brings out her eyes, don’t you think so, Mum?” Her mother rests on one leg, thinking as she looks from me to the dress. “It does.” “Okay,” Cara throws the dress on the bed and brings me to the dressing table to face the mirror. “Hair and makeup is next.” Mother and daughter continue to fuss over me, discussing how to style my hair and do my makeup. “I have never worn makeup.” “It doesn’t matter. We have lots of time to practice. Once you learn the basics, you can do your makeup when we hit the clubs.” The door bursts open at that moment, and a furious and panting Nathan appears. “No one is taking my mate to the club!” he growls ferociously at his sister.
