CHAPTER 56

NATHAN IT WON'T GO DOWN “Your arousal is heavy,” I whisper gently after ending the kiss. My eyes look from one of hers to the other softly. “You’re so beautiful, and I am about to damn the consequences of the Probability Clause if you don’t leave now.” I warn her. Her eyes fill with disappointment as she leaves my embrace and the room. “WHAT DID YOU JUST DO?!” Declan roars at me. I ignore him but can’t ignore my stubborn d**k that refuses to calm down. “And whose fault is that?” Declan retorts. “You know we can’t touch her!” I roar back at him, equally angry at myself for not finishing what I started. She wasn’t supposed to see me playing with myself. “We could have let her help us.” I chuckle at his words. “She’s inexperienced. Now stop whining!” “Good luck getting that down!” Declan scoffs and shuts himself out of the link. “f**k!” I curse at my damn d**k. Who do I call? It’s not like I can call anyone. Anymore. I have a mate now, and she’s the cause of my hard-on. I turn on the shower and start the process over again, picturing her on the bed and... I turn it off because it’s not working. It’s different. And I feel miserable. I grab my towel back and head inside, unsure of what I will find her doing. Only she’s not inside. “Alex, is Jessie with you?” I link Alex as I start dressing. “She’s with Luna and Cara. Having a girl’s time.” “Meet me at the office. Call Tyler too.” I finish dressing and leave the room, making sure to hide the damn rod that has refused to go down. Immediately Alex and Tyler see me as I enter the office, they burst into laughter. “Do you need help with that?” “Tell me that’s not your dick.” The two idiots laugh at me as I walk to my seat. I pull it forward until my legs are under the table and my stomach at the edge of it. “Stop laughing. It’s not funny.” “What happened?” Alex asks, still laughing. “Nothing. Now let’s focus,” I scold both. “All I can focus on is your d**k sticking out like a leg,” he breaks into another round of laughter. I maintain a calm face as I glare at the two of them. “Seriously, Alpha, your aura is bursting with unresolved rage. That thing has to go down,” Tyler adds, joining in the laughter. “And how do you suppose I do that? Get my mate that I am banned from touching?” I smack my palms down in frustration. “Stop laughing, dickheads, and tell me what I missed.” “Okay, okay,” Tyler raises his hands. “Uhmm…” he peeks at Alex, who is trying not to laugh. “I swear if you make another mention of it, I will throw the two of you out of the pack for good.” “Okay. Uhmm,” Tyler starts, taking a serious stance. “Nothing much happened. An invitation came for you to attend the yearly Alpha and Luna Ball hosted this year by Alpha De Santos’ pack.” “And?” “Nothing else. We had peace and calm while you were away.” “When is the celebration?” “Next week, Friday.” “Any news about Jessica’s pack? Our spies at Kizziah’s pack?” Tyler gets more serious. “I still haven’t found anything. All the packs I checked with have nothing of such. At Kizziah’s pack, everyone is tight-lipped. No one is saying anything.” “An alpha command?” I ask. That could be the reason why. “Most likely.” “I think so too,” Alex chips in. “He commands them not to say a word about Jessica. Or a threat.” “Possible,” Tyler agrees. I tell them what De Santos told me at the Council. “He didn’t say what their name was?” Tyler asks. “No. Said they are ancient, kind of reserved, old, hidden,” I reply. “I will start a search on them. The Council will have a list of all packs, and since they are old, they won’t be hard to find. I’ll just search way, way back.” “Thanks, Ty.” We discuss other things concerning the pack until we are called downstairs for dinner. Thankfully, my little partner down there has gone to sleep. Yet, I am afraid to face my mate. When we reach the dining area, Cara and Jessie are talking excitedly. When she scents my presence, she stiffens immediately before looking my way and then downwards. There’s more than disappointment in those blue eyes. Cara notices the change in her and glares at me. “What did you do to her now? Tell her about your flings again?” she links me. I glare at her while making my way to my mate. “I pray you mate with an alpha. I really do,” I link her back. Jessica shifts. Consciously or not, her rejection stings. Hard. But I won’t let it bother me. I will have a discussion with her once we retire for the night. I pull her chair close to me, catching her unawares, and turn my body to face her. She steadies herself, holding my arms. Her eyes quickly register the shock before going back to normal. “I missed you,” I tell her, wrapping an arm around her waist. She bites her lips, trying not to touch me. It stings harder. “Let’s eat,” I say, masking my feeling of rejection. When we turn back to the table, everyone is looking at us. “Problem?” Mother asks with a light tilt of her brow. “Nothing, Mother. Let’s eat.” All through dinner, Jessica tries not to be obvious with how she’s acting towards me. She refuses to meet my eyes, averting them even when I bend to her level. When I try to wipe food away from the corner of her mouth, she moves away fast, leaving my hand hanging midair. Is this how rejection feels? I have heard of many cases of it but never knew it was this painful until now. “Jessica needs a dress for the ball, son,” my mother says, looking at me. “Finally, Alpha Nathan isn’t going to the ball without a Luna.” She smiles at Jessica. “I am sure you will catch everyone’s eyes at the event.” Jessica nods at her, giving a shy smile. “Thank you, Luna.” Cara scoffs. “That’s if…” “Don’t even say it!” I warn Cara, stopping her from the nonsense she’s about to say. “You don’t even know what I am going to say!” she retorts. “Something stupid and that will cause more trouble,” I retort back. “You will know about that, won’t you…” “Enough, Cara!” our mother interjects. “Your brother is the alpha, and you will respect him in front of his mate and pack members. Am I clear?!” “Mother!” she exclaims. “I should leave. Excuse me,” Jessica whispers, pushing back her chair and leaving the table. “Happy now?” I throw at Cara before leaving the table to search for my mate. I have to make things clear to her. And if she still insists on doing what I really want to do with her, I will oblige her and let the Council and the Clause go to hell.
