I was crouched low beside a tree ready to pounce on the prey I had my eyes on. A wild hare that hadn't noticed yet that I was hunting in my wolf form. Once it turned its back to me, I lunged at it, my jaws latching around its neck as I snapped it. The hare went limp, still trapped in my jaw. I ran through the forest and back to the cabin that had become my home for the past three months.
I could tell by the season that it was mid-Autumn somewhere in October, my birth month. The trees bowed with the chilly wind as I weaved between them, the wind combing its cold fingers through my black and white fur. Once I reached the porch that surrounded the cabin, I dropped the dead hare before shifting back to my human form. I had shoulder-length midnight black hair and piercing grey eyes. I was toned and slender thanks to years of training with golden-tanned skin and fair features.
I bent to pick up the hare I had hunted when I heard rustling coming from behind the cabin. I stood still, listening for movement. The rustling sound got closer. I drew a hunting blade from the holster next to the front door and made my way quietly toward the footsteps. I stuck to the side of the cabin as two sets of feet hit the hardwood porch. I raised my blade as I rounded the corner, surprising one of the intruders as the blade touched her neck.
"Woh, okay, I'm not moving." She said, her hands in the air showing me that she was unarmed. I saw the other intruder round the corner, coming to a sudden halt when he saw his partner with my blade pressed at her throat. "Calin." He said to her. "Felix, stand down. It's okay." The woman instructed. "Who are you and what do you want," I asked, pressing my blade a little harder against the woman's throat. "Okay, easy there. I'm Calin and that is my brother Felix. We didn't realize you were here but we hoped you would be." She said.
"Come to drag me back to that hell hole? You can forget it. I would rather die free than go back to being caged up. And if you two don't leave now you'll stay here, dead and rotting." I said viciously. The woman glanced at her brother confused. "Felix she doesn't know." She said with a hint of panic and sadness in her voice. The man took a step towards me as I stared at his sister. "Look, we are not here to hurt you." He started, causing me to look at him. "The goddess told us to come here, Flint and Frost, to be joined by earth and sky between twin peaks." He said. I frowned, confusion clouding my judgment as my arm lowered to my side. "Frost?"
The woman took my confused moment to quickly grab the blade out of my hand which she threw to her brother before pinning me against the wall of the cabin. I struggled in her grasp, feeling cornered and trapped. "Let me go!" I demanded. "What happened to her, Felix?" She asked her brother, never taking her eyes off me. "I think she's out of touch with her wolf." He said, walking towards us. I glared at them, Calin's eyes flicking from me, then to her brother and back again.
"Her wolf must be blocked somehow. We need to get through to her wolf." He said to her. I was completely confused, how could my wolf be blocked if I shifted all the time? "Listen to me, take me in, my appearance, my scent, my heat. Take us in, take in everything. Let your senses take over completely." Calin spoke softly. I stared at her before closing my eyes. I breathed in their scent as they appeared clear as day in my mind. 'Mate!' A voice screamed in my head. My eyes shot open in panic before a searing pain shot through my head. I crumbled to the ground as arms wrapped around me, two bodies were pressed against me, their scent surrounding me as I screamed out in agony. Something was pushing its way through my head. The pain was too much to bare as I passed out in the arms of two strangers that felt like home.
'Astra, wake up. You need to wake up. Now!' I woke with a start, groaning as my head throbbed. I felt the bed dip which caused me to look up at the two stunning people sitting at the end of my bed. "What did you do to me?" I asked them. They looked at each other before the man, Felix, answered, "I am sorry but we had to let your wolf out. Do you know why it was blocked?" He asked gently. I just shook my head. "I didn't know..." I whispered. "Didn't know what?" Calin asked softly. "I didn't know I had one," I told them.
They glanced at each other. They seemed to be able to know exactly what the other was thinking without saying a word. "What is your name?" Felix asked. "Astra Flint," I replied. "It is nice to meet you, Astra. I am Calin Frost and that is my twin, Felix. How old are you? How come you are out here without a pack?" She asked delicately. "I'm twenty-two, I lost... I mean they tried..." I sighed, trying to gather myself and my thoughts. "They wanted to kill me, so I ran, deserted my pack months ago. It was better to become a rouge than what they had planned for me. I've been living here, on my own...hiding from them." I told them, my eyes cast down at my hands as those old memories washed over me. I felt a stray tear slide down my cheek but managed to hold the rest at bay.
I felt the cabin shake and groan, everything it contained shaking with it. I jumped out of bed in a panic. Felix rushed towards me in a flash. He held me close to him, which calmed me down instantly. "Calin! Enough!" He shouted, which caused the shaking to stop instantly. Felix pulled away slightly so he could look at me. "Are you okay?" He asked. "Yes, I am thank you." He nodded his head before stepping away from me, much to my surprised disappointment.
I sat back down as Felix made his way toward his sister. Calin had short messy sandy brown hair, while Felix's hair looked wind-blown but not as unruly as his sister's. They both had sharp blue eyes, tall and lightly tanned. Felix had a well-built, strong frame, while Calin was toned and lithe. I watched as they whispered to each other, too low for me to hear, before turning back to look at me. "I am sorry if I scared you, Astra, my emotions got the better of me." Calin apologized with a sad smile.
I wanted to pull her close and chase away her sadness. I frowned at the sudden instincts I now had toward them. "What...Why am I...How are we...Who are you to me?" I managed to get out. "Has your wolf not spoken to you about that?" Felix asked, frowning. Calin stood up and walked towards me before taking a seat on the bed just inches away from me. "Take a deep breath, just relax and let our scent wash over you," Calin said as she laid her hand over mine, causing electricity to run up my arm.
I breathed in, my eyes fluttering closed as their delicious scent washed over me. A mix of sandalwood and crisp air with hints of something warm and sweet like homemade syrup. I moaned out as their scent consumed me. My eyes shot open with only one word swimming through my mind. "Mates," I said almost possessively, causing both Felix and Calin to growl lowly, a low fire darkening their blue eyes.
