*Selene*
I sat with my arm crossed and my eyes closed. His gaze made me groan in annoyance. How long would he be staring at me?
“Am I that beautiful for you to be staring at me like that?” I asked. My brother Deimos just chuckled. Then, I opened one of my eyes and hissed at him.
“My dear beloved sister, I know you think you’re that beautiful, but please. You know why I keep staring at you,” Deimos said, laughing.
“If you’re here to question me for the second time about that wolf. I know nothing,” I said, gritting my teeth, “Aren’t you happy he died?”
“Yes, because it means you’re safe, but don’t discard the idea that maybe someone else was with him,” Deimos said, crossing his arms.
“He was alone. How many times do I need to repeat myself?” I said, slamming my hands on my thighs, “He was f*****g alone, no one else. I would have sensed it.”
“I don’t trust your words. Maybe the other partner was waiting somewhere else?” Deimos suggested.
“Did you find any signs of other wolves around? And don’t you think he or someone would have taken him away?” I said, standing, “Stop overthinking. I already told you to trust me.”
“Selene! Can’t you understand how dangerous this is?” Deimos retorted, “It’s your life!”
“And it is my life,” I answered back, “Has anything happened this past year?”
Deimos stared at me. Groaning angrily, he turned his back to me.
“Answer me, Deimos, has anything happened before?” I asked as I grasped his arm, “Nothing will happen. I have everyone protecting me. I have you, Deimos.”
Sighing, he turned around and hugged me. Then, kissing my temple, he sighed louder.
“Still, Selene. You’re the one that they can capture at any moment. I wouldn’t be able to see you get taken away. If they capture you, I don’t know what they might do to you,” Deimos muttered.
Every day was a challenge for everyone. Their need to keep me safe was one they had to carry. I felt like a burden. But it wasn’t me, the one at fault.
It was this gift.
Hugging him, I sighed.
“Has our father thought about sending me away again?” I asked dejectedly.
“It seems this time he wants you here. He said you would be protected here. Not somewhere else,” Deimos explained. I nodded and moved away from him.
“I see,” I muttered as I walked away. Deimos grasp my hand.
“Selene, sleep in my room tonight,” Deimos said as I frowned.
“Why? I have my room,” I spat back.
“Yes, but I will feel better if you sleep there. That man knew you were there. Someone else might come and search in the same place. It seems they know where you live,” Deimos explained. I hummed back, nodding.
Letting go of his hand, I walk away.
“Fine,” I said, waving my hand.
“Where are you going?” Deimos asked worriedly.
“Training, this girl has a body to maintain!” I yelled and smiled.
…
“Smack.”
“f**k it, Janus,” I retorted as I grabbed my burning cheek
“Concentrate, Selene,” Janus said. I groaned, annoyed.
“Can’t you see I’m trying? You just don’t give me a chance,” I said, spitting blood, “Can we continue now?”
Janus nodded and continued throwing kicks.
Since being small, my family has trained me to be a fighter. I was not only a princess with a gift. I was a vampire seeker with strength like no one else. I could kick anyone’s ass if I desired it. And I’m good at fighting, but sometimes I can be reckless. But in danger, I can fight.
“CONCENTRATE, SELENE!” Janus yelled.
“I f*****g AM!” I yelled as I crouched and kicked him in the stomach.
“F-f**k,” Janus groaned, holding his stomach. Then, jumping on him, I flip him over and throw him on the floor.
“My win,” I hissed, smiling at him.
Standing, I stretch and fix my long white hair.
“Thanks for the training,” I said, walking off the platform.
“Be on time for sword training!” Janus yelled. I waved my hand as I bid my goodbyes.
“Are you not that hungry?” my father asked. I looked up and smiled wryly.
“No,” I said smiling, “I would like to excuse myself.”
Hearing the chair screech the floor, I head to Deimos’ bedroom. I wasn’t that excited about sleeping in his bedroom. But I didn’t have a choice.
Closing his door, I grab my nightgown and get changed. Hearing something on the balcony’s door, I frowned. Was it an animal?
Deciding to ignore it, I head to the bed. Taking a seat, I braid my hair as I hum a tune. Suddenly a loud bang made me jump. I frowned towards the door.
Pulling a dagger from the pillow, I walk up to the door. Leaning my head, I try to hear anything. But it was silent. I was confused by the noise. I backed away, but the doors barged open. I yelled, covering my face. Then, backing away quickly, I try to see what it was.
Eyes wide, I find four beings surrounding me—their black cloaks covering their bodies and faces. Gripping the dagger, I stand in the attacking position.
“Who are you?” I asked loudly. They silently stared at me, “I asked you a question!”
None of them moved or said a word. Then, suddenly a fifth person appeared. Moving my eyes towards the door, I frowned.
“You?” I retorted.
“Nice to see you again, seeker,” the witch said.
“Why are you here?” I asked as I lowered my dagger. The witch smiled at me. That stupid smile I hated to see on her face.
“I have come to warn you,” the witch said.
“Did you need to come with all your friends?” I spat angrily. She chuckled, moving closer until she stopped. I could feel her aura. I didn’t like it at all.
“I came because you need to know that he is looking for you,” the witch mumbled.
“Who?” it confused me.
“Him,” she whispered as she held a strand of my hair. Walking around me, I feel her gaze all over my body. “He is seeking you. He needs you.”
“What are you talking about?” I asked, moving my head, hearing the doors of the bedroom open. I find Deimos and my father with a shocked look.
“Oh greetings, king of seekers,” the witch said, laughing, “Perfect.”
“Why are you here?” my father asked as Deimos stopped him. He looked dangerously pissed.
“I’m here just to let your beautiful daughter know he is looking for her,” the witch repeated.
“You mean the king?” Deimos spat. My eyes went wide as I finally understood what she said.
“He’s looking for me?” I asked, panting.
“Yes, love,” the witch hissed, “But don’t fret. You’re strong. Just know that when he finds you. You will have important choices to make. You will need to choose from your head and not from this,” she said, poking my chest. I frowned at her.
“Me making choices? What sort of choices?” I asked her as I pushed her slim, crooked finger away.
“That you will know when the time comes,” she said, backing away, “Just know that in a few years. You will have to choose. To become a stronger princess.”
With those words, her companions started leaving. The witch smiled and turned away from us. Closing the doors with a gust of wind, I stay stunned.
