Charlotte, looking haggard, sat in the rear seat of the black car, watching the road as Lawrence drove to the pack's station. It was only a few meters away from her father's house. As she sat in the back of the car, two trained guards sat beside her to prevent her from escaping.
Charlotte sighed, wondering what her fate would be. She hadn't expected her life to turn out like this. She had been gingerly preparing for her fourth wedding anniversary with Teddy Hudson and hadn't anticipated this twist of fate. As the black car arrived at the pack's station, there was a middle-aged man in charge of controlling the activities of the station, more like the supreme leader there.
"Welcome, Lawrence," the head of the police station greeted Lawrence as he got out of the car.
"The pack's Luna, welcome, Luna Charlotte," the head warrior, Ezra Daniels, immediately bowed to Charlotte, until Lawrence said, "Alpha Teddy ordered for Luna Charlotte to be locked up too, but in a different cell from the rest of the inmates."
Ezra's eyes widened in shock, but he quickly composed himself and responded, "Understood. This way, please." Ezra showed Charlotte into the station house, leading her to a cell room and locking the gate.
"Excuse me, sir. Is Alpha Jack in this cell?" Charlotte asked, knowing that since she had been arrested, Jack would likely be under arrest too, as Teddy wouldn't spare his older brother, which made her worry.
"Yes, Luna. I have to take my leave now, as I am not allowed to speak with you," Ezra said, speaking to Charlotte in a respectful tone as he didn't understand the crime she had committed.
After Lawrence had first brought Jack in the early hours of the morning to the pack's station, Ezra was stunned, wondering if Alpha Teddy was alright for arresting his older brother. Everyone in the pack knew Jack was supposed to rule the Norfield pack if he hadn't traveled abroad, abandoning the ruling position to Teddy.
Ezra was still trying to recover from the shock of that, as he wondered if Ex-Alpha Lucas Hudson was aware of Jack's arrest. Teddy had ordered no one to interact with Jack or feed him until he was taken to the pack's court for final judgment.
Shaking his head in denial, Ezra left the cell to attend to other matters.
Charlotte looked around at the cell she was placed in. She wanted to reach out to Jack to know if he was alright. As she perceived him as her mate, she thought more of him and cared about him too.
"Moon goddess, please do something and do not allow Alpha Teddy to eliminate his brother," Charlotte prayed as she went back to sit on the floor in the empty cell with white-painted walls.
Meanwhile, Jack was in the men's unit of the cell. He was thrown into a more dirty cell, where rats ran around and cobwebs hung on every part of the wall. Nevertheless, Jack wasn't troubled by any of that; he worried only about Charlotte. Knowing that Teddy hated him for a long time and wanted to get rid of him, he was sure that Teddy would want to use this opportunity to eliminate him.
"Where's my son?" Alpha Lucas Hudson arrived at the pack's station, as Jack had already contacted him before he got into Lawrence's vehicle.
"What has gotten into Teddy? Is this the welcome party he's supposed to offer his elder brother? Instead, he dares to throw Jack into the dirtiest cell," Alpha Lucas roared.
Shivering, the two guards protecting the cell apologized to Alpha Lucas, "Forgive us, Alpha. But we're following instructions not to allow anyone to see Jack or to let him out either."
"Why? Open the door at once and let Jack out of there this minute! I am not asking for a request but giving you an order!" Alpha Lucas roared again at the two guards.
Ezra quickly appeared and bowed before Alpha Lucas, dressed in white.
"Greetings, Alpha."
"Yes, open the cell and release Jack now," Alpha Lucas said. "We will settle this at home."
"I'm sorry, Alpha. But I just received a direct report from Alpha Teddy not to release Jack. He said Jack crossed the limit and mated with Charlotte, so for that, he has to be punished."
"What!" Alpha Lucas was taken aback by Ezra's sudden revelation. Regaining his balance, he said, "This is unbelievable. Jack wouldn't do that. When? How?"
How was Ezra supposed to know? Upon seeing Alpha Lucas Hudson appear at the pack's station, Ezra was worried and scared for his life and family. It was easier handling matters of the lower families like the omegas compared to handling matters of the nobles.
Bowing his head, Ezra apologized, "Forgive me, Alpha. I'm unsure of where it happened, but we are strictly following Alpha Teddy's order."
With a wave of his right hand, Alpha Lucas Hudson said, "That's enough. I would like to see Jack. Or am I not allowed to see him too?"
"Yes, Alpha. Alpha Teddy placed an order for no one to see Jack," Ezra said, not daring to look at Alpha Lucas in the face.
"Get out of my way, or I will personally deal with you before my son does. I will acknowledge his order for Jack not to be released yet; nevertheless, I must see Jack to know what exactly is going on."
Without being told, Ezra moved aside and led Alpha Lucas to the cell where Jack was locked up.
"Jack!" Alpha Lucas called as he neared the gate.
Jack, who was seated on the ground and recalling his previous night's encounter with Charlotte, rose from the floor.
"Father," he said, walking up to the iron gate separating them. Ezra bowed and stood aside as he couldn't unlock the gate, so Alpha Lucas asked Jack, "What am I hearing, Jack? What did you do to Charlotte? When? How? You know the laws of this pack before you left."
Looking defeated, Alpha Lucas spoke to Jack. How could Jack forget the Norfield pack's laws?
"I haven't forgotten the rules, Father. I know them all and the punishment they hold," Jack said, not feeling any remorse for his actions.
"And you're happy to be punished? Did you truly mate with Charlotte? Did you foolishly touch her? Was that why you left home last night?" Alpha Lucas queried Jack.
Jack turned his back on his father, not wanting to meet the look of disappointment that flashed in his father's eyes.
"Charlotte is my true mate, Father, and I couldn't resist her. It was a mistake at first," he said, not wanting to be the cause of his father's distress.
"Your mate? That's no excuse to mate with her, Jack. You haven't answered my questions yet. Tell me the truth. Did you mate with Charlotte Mateo last night? You have only been back in the pack for less than 24 hours, so where have you been, and how did you have her with you, to mention mating with Charlotte, the current Luna of the Norfield pack?"
"I'm sorry, Father. I did mate with Charlotte, and I'm in love with her now," Jack said.
