"I'm going to kill you, Jack! How dare you mate with my wife, the Luna of this pack?" Teddy roared, his anger evident.
"You cannot do anything to me, Teddy. Go away!" Jack roared, his voice causing all the guards to jump back in fear. Even Teddy was startled by his elder brother's strength. Walking back to his sleek black car in defeat, Teddy shouted at his guards, "Arrest him immediately and take him to the pack's police station!"
The guards were afraid, standing there staring from Jack to Teddy.
Jack stood with narrowed eyes at the doorway and watched his younger brother get into his car and zoom off angrily.
The head of the guards, Lawrence, breathed out in relief and said, "You have to report to the pack's station, Alpha, to avoid the authorities from taking matters into their own hands."
"Hmm, that's fine. You can leave," Jack dismissed Lawrence, who was standing there worriedly with two other guards.
"What are we going to do now?" Charlotte finally asked Jack, breaking his train of thought.
Turning back to gaze at Charlotte, Jack said, "You shouldn't worry about Teddy. I will report to the station, but first, I have to go home."
Jack held himself back from attacking Teddy because he knew Charlotte was watching him. She had spent four years living with Teddy and enduring his brutal nature.
Jack didn't want to appear as a beast in front of Charlotte. He knew that she was afraid of him, and that wasn't something he wanted.
"Okay, I will be going home now," Charlotte said. She was still wearing Jack's white shirt and, though saddened by the events happening in her life, she just had to go back home to her parents' house and hope that they would protect her from Teddy.
"Come, let me escort you home," Jack offered, but Charlotte shook her head, refusing.
"No, you're going to make the rumors spread fast. I will be fine. Goodbye," Charlotte swiftly ran away, exiting the house as she navigated her way out of the forest. The sound of dried leaves rustling in the air accompanied her as she rushed out and went home.
Jack's eyes narrowed at the remaining guards who stood waiting for him to follow them. "What do you three want?" he asked, and the three guards took two steps backward.
"Sorry, Alpha Jack. But you have to obey Alpha Teddy's order!" Lawrence, one of the guards boldly said. "You have to come with us to the station now."
Jack sighed, looking at them, and replied, "Fine." Jack placed a call to his father to let him know that he was on his way to the pack's police station. Alpha Lucas Hudson could only wonder what was going on in his pack, as he didn't want a war between his two sons. Jack had informed him that he wasn't interested in ruling the pack and only came back to find his mate. Now, Alpha Lucas Hudson was confused about what the matter was all about.
Charlotte arrived home at her parents' house. The house was a magnificent duplex, similar to the Ex-Alpha's villa. The nobles in the Norfield pack lived in beautiful homes compared to the average commoners of the pack.
As Ex-Beta Paul Mateo was a high-ranking member of the Norfield pack, his family lived in a luxurious home too.
Charlotte arrived at the gate, and the stationed guard let her in. She rushed into the living room in a split second, surprising her family, who were preparing to have their breakfast.
"Charlotte!" Her mother gasped and rushed out to meet her. The family gathered in the dining room was stunned, seeing Charlotte wearing a light pink dress and a man's shirt. Similarly, they could perceive another's scent on her that wasn't Alpha Teddy's.
Charlotte's mother looked aghast upon seeing how her lovely daughter's face looked swollen, and also, Charlotte was breathing heavily as if she had just escaped a death trap.
"What happened, Charlotte? Where are you coming from?" Lady Harper asked, just before her husband could query Charlotte too. The family gathered around Charlotte, who was trying to catch her breath. She had kept her family in the dark about Teddy's brutality as she was trying to make her marriage work.
Where does she start from in explaining to them? Charlotte pondered.
"Charlotte! Hurry up, Josh! Check if no one was chasing her. Who would dare to attack the pack's Luna like that?" Beta Paul ordered his son, Josh, who was three years older than Charlotte.
Josh nodded and went out to check in a split second. He returned indoors and told his father, "No one, Dad. What happened, Charlotte?"
Charlotte finally calmed down and broke into tears in her mother's arms. Her parents looked at each other in confusion, similar to her brother and sister.
"Charlotte, it's okay. Just tell us what is happening. Your father is here to protect you. Were you attacked last night? We heard Alpha Teddy went for the out-pack function. Didn't he return home?" As her mother queried her, Charlotte trembled upon hearing Teddy's name.
"Mom, Charlotte is shivering, and her body is full of dust," Sofia spoke. She was Charlotte's younger sister, 20 years old. Sofia had found her mate and already had twin pups. But Charlotte was yet to welcome her own child, which saddened all of them and kept Sofia and Charlotte's relationship apart, as Sofia assumed Charlotte wouldn't be internally happy for her.
Even when Sofia Andrews had welcomed her twins, a boy and a girl, for her mate two years ago, Charlotte didn't attend the pups' naming, which caused Sofia to stay away from her elder sister.
The twins were having their bath as they came to spend some time with their grandparents, so Sofia was around while her mate, Josie, had gone to work. Though Josie wasn't with them.
"Charlotte..." her mother called her name again, and Charlotte knew she had to confess the truth to her family. In this crucial time, she would need their support.
"Mom, Dad, I'm sorry for keeping you both in the dark all this while. It just happened last night that Alpha Jack Hudson came home, and he happened to be my real mate."
"What!" Beta Paul and his wife, Harper, were aghast. They knew the reason they had lured Charlotte into agreeing to marry Teddy. They knew Teddy wasn't her real mate, but they weren't sure either that Jack was her mate too. It was only an arrangement to groom her as their upcoming Luna. And now, the moon goddess had fated Charlotte to Jack for real.
"Are you sure about this, Charlotte? I hope you didn't do anything wrong to annoy Teddy, or what exactly happened?" Beta Paul demanded. He was a strong man, but at this moment, he was shivering. Never had he feared that Charlotte's life would be in danger if rumors spread that she mated with her husband's brother.
"Dad, Mom, I couldn't resist Jack. We kissed unexpectedly, and Teddy caught us and sent Jack away. It was a mistake, though..."
"Why would you kiss Jack? Don't you recognize him? You could have rejected him as your mate, Charlotte. Have you forgotten the pack's law? She-wolves are not allowed to cheat on their mate, let alone lust after their mate's brother!" her father shouted at her.
"I didn't lust after Jack!" Crying, Charlotte replied to her father, trying to defend her actions. "Teddy hadn't mated with me since we got married. He kept himself away, lied to the pack members that I am barren, while last night, he brought his assistant home, who happened to be his true mate!" Charlotte disclosed, and her family looked aghast.
"What!" they exclaimed. "You mean, Alpha Teddy hadn't mated with you since four years ago?" Lady Harper was the first to ask her first daughter. She remembered giving Charlotte a lot of concoctions and visiting medicinal homes to enable Charlotte to become pregnant.
"Why didn't you speak up all this while?" Lady Harper broke down in tears. What was wrong with her daughter, for goodness' sake?
"You purposely kept quiet and accepted to drink all those mixtures when you knew very well that you weren't barren and Alpha Teddy hadn't even tried once to mate with you?"
Lady Harper queried and swiftly turned Charlotte's neck to face her. Pulling the shirt collar down, there was indeed no bite mark on Charlotte's neck.
"My goodness! How can Alpha Teddy be so cruel?" Lady Harper was enraged while the rest of the family stood speechless.
