CHAPTER 9

Charlotte sat on one of the couches in the parlor, admiring the small house. That was until Jack walked out of his room with only a white towel wrapped around his waist. Jack was holding another small white towel in his right hand, which he used to dry his short black wavy hair. "Jack, are you sure I shouldn't start going back home to my parents' house? I'm sure the guards searching for me would have gone farther away or gone back to report to Teddy that they couldn't find me," Charlotte said, quickly looking away from Jack's muscular chest. The white towel was wrapped only around Jack's waist, and Charlotte could feel her heart palpitating, beating loudly in her chest. Jack didn't respond to Charlotte as he stood in front of his room door, admiring her. It was late at night, past 1 a.m., and here he was with Charlotte, talking as if it were already daybreak. "Why do you want to go back home, knowing that your parents do not have a say in the Alpha's family?" Jack questioned, and Charlotte looked at him. "Your father is the Beta of this pack, the Norfield pack. I know, but as Teddy is in the ruling position, even your father cannot protect you against Teddy, no matter what you may explain to him," Jack said, and Charlotte turned speechless as tears welled up in her eyes. Jack moved away from the door where he stood drying his hair and walked slowly to meet Charlotte. "I know I just got back home to this pack, and a lot has changed. I wish I had never left before, and maybe we could have had two or three pups by now," Jack said, and Charlotte's cheeks burned. Luckily, Charlotte was an ebony-skinned woman, so her flushed face wasn't visible, but Jack could hear her increased heartbeat and knew she was aroused by him. "No, Jack. I'm still Teddy's wife. Although I plan to divorce him tomorrow, as I cannot continue with him. Tomorrow morning, my father will report to the magistrate court here, and Teddy will be left with no other option than to accept the divorce," Charlotte said, believing that Teddy would accept her divorce. "Hahaha," Jack laughed, and Charlotte frowned. "Do you believe that my brother would accept the divorce? You have been the Luna of this pack for four years before I returned, and you think Teddy will just give away the Alpha's seat, just so he can let you go and be with his mate? Do not forget that Teddy so desires the Alpha's position. Even the magistrate wouldn't be able to stop him," Jack mocked, and Charlotte felt saddened. Indeed, she had been the Luna of the Norfield pack, and no one had higher authority in this pack except Teddy Hudson, who is the Alpha and ruler of the Norfield pack. "So what am I going to do?" Charlotte sobbed as she asked Jack. She looked up at him with hopeful eyes, her eyes shimmering, and Jack smirked. "Do you need my help? You should know that I did not return because I want the Alpha's position. I returned because I wanted to find my mate. To know if I left my mate behind. I was doing well in the human world. The people there loved me, they admired me, and offered me a lot of enticing jobs, but none of those things moved me. I happily did them, but I felt empty. I believed coming back home would make me happy again. To reunite with my family, even though I left for certain reasons before," Jack said as he turned to look away from Charlotte. Charlotte gazed up at Jack's back. She admired his taut body and wished she could run her hands over his hard, masculine physique, but if Teddy dared to find out, he would have her killed for cheating on him. Indeed, Teddy holds the supreme position of the Norfield pack, and Charlotte was scared of the consequences. She loved Jack at first sight. She wanted Jack; she could feel her wolf howling to be with Jack's wolf. But she couldn't seal their mating bond because she was Alpha Teddy's Luna. "Come, let me show you to the room. It's a small single room, but I'm sure it will make you comfortable while you rest for tonight. I have only just gotten back home. Later, you can think about my proposal. No one will find you here," Jack said. As Charlotte raised her sorrowful head to look at him, she saw that he had put on a white singlet, even though he still had a white towel wrapped around his waist. "Thank you," Charlotte said, looking around the parlor, not attempting to stand up. She told Jack, "I can manage the couch." "No," Jack said, as his deep green eyes lingered on Charlotte's full bosom, daring him to touch and savor. "No what?" Charlotte asked, looking at Jack's face. She met his desirous gaze. "I cannot let you sleep here," he said, and Charlotte smiled. "It's nothing. I will just pass the night here while I think about my life tomorrow," Charlotte attempted to lay on the couch as she said that, but Jack swiftly moved to the couch and sat beside her, causing Charlotte to end up laying her head on his thighs. Alarm bells rang in Charlotte's mind, and with the speed of light, she quickly withdrew her head from Jack's thighs. "I said that I can—" "Shush. I know you're fighting the mating bond. You didn't allow me to finish all that I had to say to you," Jack said, looking at Charlotte with longing desire clearly imprinted in his eyes. "What more do you want to say to me? I have already grasped all you explained. You are my mate, but we cannot be together if I do not divorce Teddy first. It's an abomination in this pack," Charlotte reminded Jack of the rule governing the Norfield pack, and even the magistrate acknowledged the rule. No cheating of the female wolves on their husbands. "What a ridiculous rule! It's unjust that a woman has to obey the rule alone while the men are allowed to cheat. Damn it!" Jack was annoyed, and Charlotte smiled, knowing what he wanted from her. "Teddy wouldn't dare to touch you while I am here. He has taken my birthright away from me. I knew that he desired to kill me before I left. But I wouldn't allow him to take my mate away from me. Since he hasn't mated with you, I'm glad to hear that, and I want to mark you as my mate and seal the mating bond." "Huh!" Charlotte's jaw dropped. She had totally forgotten that Teddy hadn't even marked her as his mate. The reason she usually wrapped a scarf around her neck was to hide it from prying eyes and to prevent explaining why she hadn't gotten pregnant. As Charlotte got lost in her thoughts, a deep frown etched on her pretty brown-skinned face. Jack leaned closer to her and inquired, "You can trust me, Charlotte. I wouldn't hurt you or do anything to wrong you. I will always treat you right and make you feel like the woman you're supposed to feel. I will bring you great pleasure and satisfy all your s****l fantasies. Please say yes to me and allow me the pleasure of marking you as my mate." Charlotte's jaw dropped as she looked at the handsome man who was an inch away from kissing her. She wanted him as much as he wanted her. As she shut her eyes to give him her response, she remembered all the nights she had laid on her bed alone in the master bedroom of Teddy's mansion, blaming the moon goddess for giving her a mate who did not love her. She wished to find her mate, and here he was. Even though Charlotte knew he was her husband's brother, she trusted him. Her wolf accepted him, and she replied to him, "Fine, I accept you, Jack Hudson, as my—" Jack didn't give Charlotte a chance to complete her words and sealed his lips on hers, kissing her hungrily and savoring the taste of her soft lips. Charlotte moaned as her hands flew to hug Jack closely. She kissed him back with as much desire as he had used in kissing her. Teddy wasn't there to stop them, and their kiss lasted for a while until their lips separated, and they stared into each other's eyes.
