As the weeks passed, it seemed that everyone in Lek’s family was going through some sort of personal crisis. Lek wanted to go to the UK, but didn’t like the idea of leaving Soom behind, because she felt that she had been through enough recently, even if she was only just beginning to admit it, and Soom wanted to go as well, but she wasn’t convinced that it was a good move for her daughter. The only person who didn’t want to go, but had to was Craig, even if he ended up going alone, and the prospect of that happening was sometimes quite strong.
However, he feared that if that ever happened, he would never make it back to Thailand again, and so never see his wife again. Sometimes, he could shrug those worries off, but at other times they persisted and seemed very real.
