Whatever it was that that had been said to her in that phone call on Saturday night had obviously upset her very much. Craig was in no doubt that it had been about Mike, but he didn’t ask and wasn’t told. Soom stayed close to her mother all the next day and didn’t go back to Bangkok on Sunday afternoon when she was expected to.
It made for a sombre finish to the weekend, and Craig felt a pretty useless father. Nevertheless, he made himself available for a chat at all times, and even invited her out for another tour of the village, but it was clear that she was not in the mood.
“Sorry, Dad”, she said, “but I don’t think I have to explain that I’m having problems with Mike again and I want to be completely certain in my head that I know what I want when I see him on Monday”.
