Chapter Three - The Omega Princess As Phoenix looked into the eyes of the stranger who her wolf was declaring her brother, she began to shake with utter shock. Bewildered she took a step back from the man. It was true he looked like her, light brown hair, blue/green eyes, but he was a ranked wolf, not an omega as she was. “Brother?” Phoenix questioned both Ava and the stranger out loud, her voice barely a whisper. Confusion washed over her, she didn’t have a brother, not that she knew about. Blinking she took in the stranger, she had a strange sense that she knew him, like he was a part of her in some way. Taking a gulp of air, Phoenix opened her mouth. “Who are you?” she asked tilting her head to one side. “Not here, we need to talk, but definitely not here,” the man answered. Phoenix nodded her agreement, then took a breath once more to steady her nervousness. “My apartment is not too far; would you like to chat there?” Phoenix asked. “I have to finish off here, but give me your number along with your address, and as soon as I am done, I will come, and we will talk.” Phoenix nodded, then turned to leave the campus grounds. As she walked her hands began to tremble. Questions, she had so many questions that demanded answers. The heat of the mid-day sun beat down on her skin, as she took another gulp of water from her bottle, walking in a daze towards her new home. Her mind was in a whirlwind, as she made her way up the stone and marble staircase towards her front door. As she entered the apartment, Phoenix needed something to do to occupy herself, and began to tidy round the flat. Walking into the bedroom she pulled off her bedsheets, even though they did not need cleaning, to place them into the washing machine. As she did her two knitted dolls fell to the floor, bending down Phoenix picked them up. The gift from an elderly prophet, who one of her best friends was named after, but she could not remember. Each gift given to the four children of Queen Chloe and King Zander held a specific meaning, for years she wondered if the male doll was her mate. Realisation washed over her, and she shook her head at the memory of her being a small pup playing, pretending the boy doll was the other dolls mate, making them kiss and cuddle. Phoenix shuddered, that now felt sick and wrong to her, especially as she looked at the doll, it was her brother, the random stranger she had just met. Picking up her phone Phoenix dialled her mother, if anybody knew what this was all about, it would be her. No sooner did the phone ring, the queen arrived, with Liane, who instantly left. “Mam, how long have you known I had a brother?” Phoenix accusingly asked. “For exactly 1 hour 27 minutes, as soon as I had the vision, I had Liane come, ready to bring me here when you rang,” Chloe sighed, then sat on the stripped bed patting the space beside her. Phoenix sat down looking at her mother. “Does Dad know?” she asked. “No, not yet. I will tell him when I get back. He is in a meeting with the consulate from Japan. The last time I met him was about 17 or 18 years ago, when I was pregnant with Hamish. I may have offended him, as I had a lot of wind when carrying my youngest and let one off during a state event. It has taken this long for Zander to convince him to visit us again, so he barred me from the proceedings.” Chloe giggled like a schoolgirl, rather than the Queen she was. Phoenix shook her head and laughed at her mother. “Only you Mam.” She had missed her crazy mother, who was an amazing queen, but as down to earth as they come, and hated all the pomp and ceremony that came with the throne. “So, what did you see?” Phoenix asked. “I saw him, and just knew he was your brother. I see the two of you being close. I also saw a path with a crossroads in your not-too-distant future. The path you take was not shown, but either way you chose will have consequences. But on that, I feel very strongly, you should always follow your heart,” Chloe stated to her daughter, then gave her a soft smile. “The other stuff I saw, is not for now,” Chloe added. Phoenix nodded, despite her piqued interest, she learnt long ago, she would only be given the information she needed when she needed it, her mother would not divulge anything else until the time was right. “Okay, I will go, as he will be here soon, if you want me, just give me two rings and I will pop in with Liane. Ted has taken a little unwell, so they are staying at the pack for a while until he recovers.” Chloe smiled. “Send everyone my love.” Phoenix smiled, as her mother pulled out her phone and sent a text. Liane arriving moments after. Chloe grabbed her daughter and held her tight. “I love you, never forget that.” Chloe sighed, placing a soft kiss on Phoenix’s cheek. “Love you too, Mam, and next time bring Dad.” Phoenix smiled back at her mother. “Always the Daddy’s girl.” Chloe laughed, then took hold of Liane’s hand and disappeared into thin air. Phoenix, grabbed her clean bedding from the drawers and quickly made the bed, taking hold of her knitted dolls and smiling, placed them side-by-side at the bottom, before heading back into her living room. Phoenix paced her living room floor, as she waited impatiently for her brother to arrive, although she had many questions, her mind was numb, unable to think straight. Finally, there was a knock at the door, and taking a deep breath she went to answer it. As she opened the door, she was greeted by familiar green eye, those that she saw every day when she looked in the mirror. “Come in,” she beckoned the stranger. “What is your name?” Phoenix asked. “Jonathon, and yours?” Jonathon asked, he had waited so long for this day, and now it was here he was almost crippled with nerves. “Phoenix.” She smiled. “Well, I suppose ‘nice to meet you’ doesn’t quite cut it Phoenix. But truly this is a dream come true for me.” Jonathon smiled his eyes never leaving hers. “Take a seat, would you like a drink?” Phoenix asked. “A water please, it is hot out there, I mean I have lived here for twenty years, yet my English skin still doesn’t like the heat.” Jonathon let out a nervous laugh. Phoenix went to her fridge and grabbed a couple of bottles of water, then motioned with her hand for Jonathon to take a seat, before sitting opposite him. “So, you have a rank, I can feel it.” Phoenix smiled. “Yes, I was born Gamma, but I am now Beta of the Montseny Forest Pack. I was promoted when our Alpha took over around 9 months ago.” Jonathon smiled. “Your wolf is omega, but yet you have a presence about you, like you are a high rank,” Jonathon stated. “Yes, I am an Omega, is that a problem?” Phoenix asked, suddenly defensive. “No, I am not our parents. To be honest, I do not even remember them. I was about two when they died in the war,” Jonathon reassured Phoenix, understanding her defensiveness completely. Phoenix nodded, and relaxed her shoulders, relief that her brother did not have an issue with her rank flooded her, she had not realised how nervous she was about that until he mentioned it. “So, this is a shock,” Phoenix began, not sure what else to say. “Yes. I have wanted to meet you, know you, since the day I found out I had a twin sister.” Jonathon smiled. “Twin?” Phoenix asked, he was not only her brother, but her twin! “Yeah, I know. I found out about five years or so ago. I can tell you what I know.” Jonathon smiled. Phoenix nodded her head, wanting to know everything and anything to make sense of this situation. Jonathon took a breath and decided the best place to start was at the very beginning. “When Alpha Ken of Ullswater was killed, Luna Anne made provision for all the pups of the pack to leave, knowing she was unable to lead, and that the pack would soon be disbanded. I was taken by our grandparents; they were too old to fight, so had survived another war. They were set in their ways, and still believed till the day they died, that packs who accepted omegas as equals and allowed human mates would be weak. No amount of education, living in a pack that respected all ranks, or even the evidence of what happened when the King and Queen took over, how packs were strengthened, and lived in peace, would change their minds. They did not want to live in a country that was ruled by a royal family, so had made the journey to Barcelona, and settled here, 20 years ago we lived first in the L’Adou Font pack, who treated us all like outcasts. Leaving them we joined Montseny, who accepted us, even if they totally disagreed with our grandparents’ way of thinking. I did not know I had a sister, you were never once mentioned, until after my grandfather passed. Knowing she would soon follow our grandmother took to her bed. It was on her last day before she died that she finally told me the truth. I had a twin sister, she did not know if you were alive or dead, and if honest, did not really care. She told me you were removed instantly from me and our parents when it was discovered you had an omega wolf.” Jonathan sighed shaking his head, as if he still could not believe that had happened. “I was born a Gamma wolf, and my grandparents presumed that because I had an elevated rank to our parents, that is why you had a low omega rank. I am sorry, if that is true.” Jonathon looked up at Phoenix visually upset. “Hey, that is not how this works, and even if it was, it was never your fault,” Phoenix reassured her twin brother. “Thank you, but I still feel guilty.” Jonathon sighed, then began to continue his story. “Our grandmother told me that she had heard that some of the omegas had escaped before the war, and made it to the royal household, but she did not know if you were one of them. You were not given a name, not by our parents, so she was not sure.” Jonathon bowed his head shaking it, a tear forming in his eye. "She maintained to her dying breath, that I was better off without you, that having an omega twin would hold me back. That her own flesh and blood was worthless and brought shame on the family. Do not get me wrong, I loved my grandparents, but at the same time, I was disgusted by their way of thinking. Somehow, I knew you had not died. For a year, I searched, but so many omegas were freed after the war, a lot of them our age, it was like looking for a needle in a haystack. I did think of going back to England, but then I had my 18th birthday, and with that, came my mate. You have met her, Amalia, she is amazing Phoenix.” Jonathon smiled his eyes lighting up with pure joy as he mentioned her name. Phoenix smiled, happy her twin had found his mate, and seemed so happy. She wondered if that was why she had instantly liked Amalia and felt at ease with her. “So, I gave up the idea of travelling to England, but I did keep searching for information from here. Then, nine months ago, Alpha Alix was found dead in mysterious circumstances. He had not met his mate, so had no heir. My best friend Teo, had just taken over as Alpha Alix’s Beta, but the council promoted him, and he named me as his beta.” Jonathan smiled up at Phoenix. “I was not supposed to be at the university today. Amalia is in charge of welcoming international werewolves, and informing them of the pack. But my wolf would not settle all morning. Plus, I have just enrolled for a doctorate in Economics and Law, as it will help with my leadership position, so I decided to come with her, to complete my enrolment before the semester starts in a couple of weeks. As soon as I smelt you, I knew who you were. Rabbi my wolf was screaming at me that you were my sister. Then when I turned around and saw you, it was like looking in a mirror. Well, if I was 5ft 6, a girl and had long hair.” Jonathon laughed. Phoenix giggled slightly, she loved her twin already and she felt like a missing piece of the jigsaw of her life had been slotted into place. “So, tell me about you,” Jonathon begged. “Okay, well, hold on to your hat, because this is going to blow your mind.” Phoenix grinned, then took a breath, wondering how her twin brother was going to take the news that she was The Omega Princess.
