Chapter Two

2301 Words
Not once did Oliver Bear Segel think he'd end up back at his parents' house like this, tears running down his face, body shaking with anger and pain. He battles with him between pressing the bell and walking away so he could find a hole to crawl into and die. The sun had set, the sky dark with stars twinkling, the street lights were on and so were the lights in some of the houses in the street. Before he could walk away, the door was pulled open, bright light pouring from within the house and coming up to block the ray of the light was his step-dad, Liam. Without missing a beat, Olly runs into the man's arms, burying his face into his chest. "Dad..." Olly cried, his fingers gripping Liam's shirt. Liam immediately wraps his arms around his slightly damp son, worry pooling within him. "Shh, it's okay, son." He cooed, stroking Olly's hair. "Daddy's here, whatever it is, it's going to get better." "Liam, who is it?" Olly pulled back at the sound of his mother's voice and managed to wipe his eyes before she rounded the corner and made her way to the door. Liam stares at his son, took in his red rimmed eyes, his red nose and cheeks and his shivering body, he watched the way Olly quickly wiped his face with the back of his hand, his hand bar of a ring and anger starts bubbling within him. "Oh my god! Olly bean! My Olly bean." Martha Segel cried as she runs towards her son, she pushes Liam aside and pulls Olly into a bone crushing hug, pressing tiny kisses into his hair. Olly buried his face into his mum's neck, breathing in her chanel no. 5 scent and feels a lot better wrapped in her hug. "Okay, okay, let's get this hug fest into the house. I think our neighbors would soon start poking their heads out to snoop." Liam tells the mother and son. Reluctantly, Martha let go and leads her son into the house by hand. Liam instantly busies himself making tea for his son while Martha sits Olly down at the kitchen table, taking a seat beside him. Olly stares at his hands, his gaze on the finger where his engagement ring used to be. He rubs the finger and bit his lip as he silently thinks, where do I go from here? Olly thanks his father when a cup of hot tea was placed in front of him, without looking up. How does he tell his parents the person he abandoned them for left him because he was tired of him and his stretch marks? How does he tell his parents his ex-fiancée decided he wasn't enough and was now involved in a polygamous relationship with none other than Ellie, the girl Olly had called his best friend for fourteen years? "Your ring is gone, Olly bear." Olly opened his mouth, he wants to turn to his mother and say not now, I can't talk about it now but how does he face her? She had once told him Joseph was bad news and he didn't heed her warning. Instead of replying, he takes a sip of his tea and lets out a sigh. Martha stares at Liam, silently having a conversation above Olly's head. She places her hand on Olly's and stroked it. "You don't need to say anything, any time soon. Take your time, we're here for you." "How about you go have your bath while your mum and I order pizza and Ben and Jerry's?" Liam offered and Olly has never felt so grateful in his life. He gathered the last amount of courage he had within him and raised his head up so he could look at his parents. "Can we watch NCIS too? I c-can’t find the strength to tell you what happened yet. Can I just distract myself tonight? I promise to tell you what happened tomorrow but tonight can we all eat pizza and watch tv?" Liam walked towards his wife and son and places a hand on Olly's shoulder. "Just like we told you earlier, we'll wait until you're ready." "Thank you, daddy." That night, Olly stayed in=between his parents as they sat on the white couch and watched McGee get jealous over DeNozzo's new bromance. After eating the pizza and when the ice cream was gone, Olly rests his head on his mum's shoulder and that's where the fell asleep. -- "Together, forever." Joseph whispered as he ran his fingers through Olly's hair, his gaze focused on Olly and his words were said in such sincerity and his gaze full of truths that Olly feels the heat spread across his cheeks. "Have I  told you I adore the way you blush?" Olly chuckled and playfully smacks Joseph's arm. They were standing in front of a Costa, people were sidestepping them to get through but Olly didn't care. All that mattered to him was the man holding him. The scene suddenly shifts and all of a sudden Olly finds himself in a familiar building with ice cream, books and a loud foreign song playing in the background, he could feel someone come up behind him but before he could turn around, strong arms went around his waist and a low husky voice whispers in his ear, "You look better when you smile." Olly slowly turns around so he could see who it was when all of a sudden blinding lights came flooding in through the windows. He shields his eyes with it and the next time he opens them, he's staring at white ceiling with stick on stars on it. He sits up and rubs his eyes as he stares around, taking in the familiar desk to his right, the pastel green walls and his flat screen and playstation. He frowned in confusion; the last thing he remembered was falling asleep to his mum. He rubs his face and shuffles out of bed, he scratches his belly as he makes his way to the bathroom. After freshening up, he pulls on a pair of grey sweatpants and a black long sleeve shirt, he pulls his hair up into a bun and makes his way to the mirror. He does look a lot better than he did yesterday but his eyes were still red-rimmed. Olly bit his bottom lip as he tries to recall his dream, he didn't remember anything except the blinding lights. Rather than disturb himself about something nonsensical, Olly checks the time -8:20am- and makes his way out of his room. He stops by his parent’s room and found it empty so his guess was they were either in the kitchen or in the sitting room. He makes his way to the kitchen first and as he got closer he could hear a bit of his parent's conversation. "Martha dear, I've been waiting to beat up that stupid boy. I know he caused whatever happened between them." "Li, you know how I always hold you back whenever you want to punch the little, for lack of better words, s**t, this time I won't hold you back. He hurt our little baby." "Martha, Olly isn't little anymore. He's almost twenty-four now." "I carried him for nine months and was in labor for nine hours, I don't care if he's forty, he's still my little boy." Olly couldn't help the little laugh that escapes him. Deciding he's heard enough, he walks into the kitchen, quietly greeting his parents, good morning. He presses a kiss to the top of his mum's hair and received a grin from his dad. "Your dad made us blueberry pancakes and bacon." Martha said as she pushes a steaming cup of coffee towards her son. "Thank you." "Anything for you, son." Liam said as he grabs a fresh plate. Olly stares at his parents, he watched the way Liam arranged the food onto the plate while snaking glances at Martha. After all these years, Liam and Martha still acted like they were still teenagers in love, Liam always made her giggle, still presses kisses to her forehead, still hugs her like she was the only one that matters and Olly just wants that and he thought he had it with Joseph but now he's all alone. From the age of fifteen, all Olly ever wanted was to find someone who will always remain by his side. All he wanted was a relationship like that of his parents and now. He and Joseph used to be like that, they were always smiling and lovey-dovey, they used to share shoes because they were the same shoes size, back then Olly thought it was a sign that they were meant to be together but oh how wrong he was. Now he's back to square one. "Joseph cheated on me." The plate falls from Liam's hand and Martha lets out an outraged cry but Olly continued. "With Ellie and her co-worker." Martha went still at that and it was Liam who spoke next. "Your best-friend Ellie?" "Yes." "And her co-worker? Like a threesome or?" Liam leaves the broken plate and scattered food on the floor and takes a seat while Olly tells them everything that happened, leaving out the part about Nick the cabbie, he was not important. Nick the cabbie should be forgotten because he wasn't anyone of importance to him, he was just a stranger who managed to distract Olly for a while. When he finished filling in his parents, he noticed how tight Liam was clenching his fist. "You are not going back to him! I won't allow it!" Martha spat. "Over my dead body." "I'm not going back, mum." "Where are your things?" Liam asked, his voice calm like he was repeating a mantra in his head to keep his anger at bay. "I told him to send it here. I'm not going back to him or to that place. I am going to find a new job and look for a new place to stay but I was hoping I could crash here for the mean time." Martha placed her hand on top of Olly's. "Of course, this is your home. You grew up here. You can stay for as long as you want." The three sit in silence for minutes until Liam got up to clear the broke plate. They eat in silence too and Olly places the plates in the dishwasher when they were done. Liam leaves Martha and Olly to talk between themselves as he goes to shower. By two-thirty in the afternoon, Olly wanted to stretch his legs and take in fresh air. "There's a new café two streets over, it's nice and their mocha is really good." Martha said Olly as he shrugs on coat. He grabs his wallet and was about to reach for his phone when he remembered he had left it in Nick's cab. "Thanks, mum. Should I get you anything on my way back?" "An Americano would be nice." She said and presses a kiss to his cheek then made her way up the stairs. Once Olly was outside, he felt calm. His anger was still there but it was pushed aside by his grief. He walks slowly, taking in every building and store he passes. It's been years since he's been home and even though he grew up here, everything seems new to him. He gets to the café in twenty minutes, a bell rings as he pushes the door open and walked in. He was immediately engulfed by warmth, round tables and chairs were artfully arranged inside, arranged on the shelf were different types of bread and in front of him in a glass case were gingerbread men, donuts and large cookies. Behind the counter was a man with dark hair styled into a quiff and large black eyes. "Welcome to The Blue Café. How may I help you?" The man said, his voice soft. "Can I get a triple chocolate donut and a large latte." Olly replied, a small smile on his face. "Eating in or...?" "Eating in, please." "You can go and have your seat, I'll be right with you." Olly still smiles at the man and check for a name tag which he finds pinned to the breast-pocket of the man, written in a lazy drawl was the name, Rami. "Thank you, Rami." Rami looked taken aback when Olly said his name and Olly finds himself wanting to ask but it was rude to pry so he gives Rami a nod and finds a right spot to seat in. The café was empty, it's white curtains were drawn so passer-by couldn't see what was going on inside and vice versa and to Olly it was perfect. He could cry in here and on one would care. He didn't want to feel alone, he wanted someone he could talk to that wasn't his parent. He wanted a friend. He was dragged out of his thoughts when Rami places his order on the table. Just as the man was about to walk away, Olly spoke. "Do you mind sitting with me?" Rami narrowed his eyes and stared at Olly. "Look, dude, you've got nice looks and all that but I d-" "I don't have a phone, nor do I have friend. I was thinking we just chat." "You're not hitting on me?" Olly chuckled and shook his head. Rami pondered over this for a few seconds, he wiped his hand on his apron and took the seat across Olly. Two strangers in an empty café. They do talk though and by the time, Olly leaves he has a to-go cup of iced Americano for his mum and a new friend.
