Chapter Eighteen: An Unwanted VisitThe news had reached the household earlier that morning and already Taylor was making preparations. Josh had managed to escape from police custody. The Inspector had come to deliver the news personally. “I do not seriously believe the boy will return to your house, sir,” he said, standing in the hallway, holding his hat in both hands moving the brim through his fingers, “but if he has once again fallen into the evil clutches of the pawnbroker, then anything might be possible. I'm sorry I can't be any more specific, sir, but we're dealing with dangerous and desperate people. People who are capable of anything.”
“So what do you suggest, Inspector?”
“I could put a man outside, sir. As a sort of deterrent.”
