I am Darven

“....reject you as my mate.” Shaking his head in disbelief, Calix muttered, “No, you cannot do that.” “Of course, I can and I am doing it.” Mega showed no mercy at all. “Please, Mega, don't do this to me.” Calix tried his best to persuade her. “Whatever your thoughts are about me, that is not true at all.” “Really?” She raised her brows. “Fine, then prove it!” She shrugged. “Prove?” He scrunched his face in confusion. “Yes! Give us the howl! The fierce, loudest howl of all!” Gulping hard, he strolled his gaze around and everyone began to shout, “Howl! Howl! Howl!” Seeing everyone testing his patience, Darven, who had never felt any type of emotion for anyone, was suddenly overwhelmed with sympathy for Calix. He longed to embrace him, to convey that he was not alone in this moment of despair. It was a strange and unfamiliar feeling, especially considering he didn't know Calix even a little. Approaching him, he grabbed his arms and tried to convince him. “You don’t have to do this. Come with me.” As he attempted to pull Calix, he realised that Calix remained unresponsive. Incited by the shouts and commotion around them, Calix took in heavy, ragged breaths and fiercely yanked his arms free. Gathering his courage, Calix steeled himself before taking a determined step forward. Positioned right in the heart of the hall, where the moonlight painted a striking, silvery path on the floor, he closed his eyes. He mustered every ounce of power coursing through his veins and let out a resounding, primal scream, "Aoooo..." To his dismay, instead of a mighty howl, his attempt resulted in a feeble, human-like scream. It took no second for the hall to erupt with laughter, and he could hear various comments mocking him. "What was that?" "He didn't even transform!" "Mega is right for real. He is wolfless! Hahaha!” “What is he even doing here? Who got him here?” Feeling defeated and embarrassed, he clenched his fist. The weight of expectation had overwhelmed him, and he couldn't help but run away, feeling disheartened by his failure. "Hey! Wait! Hey!" Darven followed him, calling out, but he didn’t stop. Getting to the back of the school, he once again scaled the wall and gazed down at the lake. The serene water of the lake sparkled beneath the gentle moonlight. The sight was undeniably breathtaking, yet he couldn't find solace in its beauty. "Hey!" he heard someone call, and he turned to locate the source of the voice. To his astonishment, he found Darven standing just a few inches away. Darven's voice was gentle as he said, "Look, I know it's hard to face rejection, but this isn't the solution." Calix furrowed his brows, perplexed. "What? Why are you saying all that? I don't even know you." “Oh! Yeah, I am Darven. I am new here.” Darven introduced himself, taking a step closer, but Calix, not understanding his intentions, stepped away. "Okay, but why are you coming closer? Before Darven could respond, Calix slipped and tumbled into the lake, abruptly halting their conversation. The icy waters of the lake sent shivers coursing through his body. Struggling to resurface, he felt an unseen force tugging at his leg. Panic surged as he desperately sought the source, but all he could see was murky darkness beneath. Then, an eerie sight met his eyes – black smoke, snaking upwards from the depths of the lake. He watched, bewildered, as it gradually approached, swirling ominously. It encircled him, constricting like an unseen vice. Fear coursed through him, and he tried to break free, but the inky shroud overwhelmed him, gradually robbing him of his consciousness. The next moment, when his eyes fluttered open, he found himself floating on his back in the lake. The cool water enveloped him, and he gazed up at the vast expanse of the night sky above. Disoriented and alarmed, he knew he needed to get back to the surface. He took a deep breath and focused on keeping calm. With a series of gentle, controlled movements, he started kicking his legs slowly, propelling himself upward. He used his arms to gently paddle, gradually breaking through the water's surface tension. As he continued this steady and measured effort, Calix could feel the cool air against his face, and with each stroke, he drew nearer to the surface. His determination and calm approach allowed him to breach the water's surface once more, where he could finally gasp for air. When Calix's feet finally touched the ground, he scanned his surroundings in confusion. To his astonishment, the familiar school building was nowhere to be seen. Instead, he found himself standing in the heart of a dense forest. Shocked and puzzled, he began to roam around, desperately searching for a path that would lead him back home. However, the surroundings were unfamiliar, and his attempts to retrace his steps proved fruitless. Frustration and weariness began to weigh on him, and he contemplated giving up. Just as he was on the brink of despair, a distant glow caught his attention. Determination surged through him, and he hastened toward the light. His pace quickened as he drew nearer, and his eyes widened in disbelief as he came upon a house engulfed in flames. With a sense of urgency, Calix moved closer to the burning house. The crackling of the flames was deafening, and the heat was intense as he drew near. He hesitated at the threshold, torn between fear and a desire to help if anyone was inside. His instincts compelled him to act, and he cautiously entered the house. The interior was in chaos, with smoke billowing and the fire's destructive force evident. Calix shouted, hoping for a response, but there was only an eerie silence. As he carefully scoured the burning house, he stumbled upon a wardrobe tucked away in the corner. To his surprise and relief, he saw two terrified children huddled inside, clutching each other tightly for comfort. His heart ached for them, and he took a cautious step toward the wardrobe to offer assistance. However, just as he approached, a large wooden beam crashed down in front of him, blocking his path and sending a shower of sparks and embers into the air. Coughing and shielding his face from the chaos inside, he retreated from the fiery house. He knew he had to find an alternative entrance to reach the trapped children and ensure their safety. Time was slipping away as the fire raged, threatening to devour the entire structure. He hurried around the house, searching for another means of entry, when he spotted someone in the vicinity. With a glimmer of hope, he approached the figure, hoping to enlist aid. The person was shrouded in a black cloak, his identity completely concealed. “Hey! There is a fire! We need to do something” he said, and the cloaked figure turned around. To his surprise, an old lady with a deeply wrinkled face met his gaze, her expression oddly menacing and shocking. It was an encounter that only deepened the enigma of the situation he found himself in. Pointing a bony, accusatory finger with sharp, claw-like nails, the old lady questioned him in a deep and unsettling tone, "You... How come you are here?" Calix, his face scrunched in confusion, pointed to himself and asked, "Me?" “I should also ask you the same!” Before the eerie encounter could continue, a voice sounded from behind him, a voice he felt like he had heard before but couldn’t figure out who exactly it was. Slowly, he turned around.
