The voice of winter speaks through its chilly conquest. Crossing the treacherous plains where they encountered Nightbeasts. All monsters they've encountered became stepping stones for their experience.
The party now has reached the end of the plateau. They stand at the entrance of Frostsiege Valley. Preparing for unforeseen incidents like an avalanche or random Nightbeasts.
“They even made the passage wide enough for a carriage to traverse.” Xenon noticed.
The locals have made two wide passages. One on the left so that traveling merchants can pass through, while the merchants going out of the village goes right.
They are currently walking in the right passage. It could be risky since the snow above the mountains might slip a landslide.
“The river's so beautiful.” Luciella's astonished from the view of the crystallized clear water of the river.
During the coldest season, the river will remain crystal-ice and it's still dangerous since the frosted part is the only coated to the surface, meaning the cold water beneath isn't frozen.
“We're near... I remembered the voice of my comrades as that monster devours them...” Dunkan couldn't ever get the guilt out of his heart.
“Rising temperature. Higher energy levels up ahead... Laken, the Nightbeast is here.” Xenon reminded the party on whatever he sees through his thermal sensors.
“This time Eirisse you'll join the battle before your forced Metamorphosis disappears. Xenon and I will attack head-on, while Eirisse manages some single spell to avoid an avalanche.” Laken takes over the strategy.
There's no telling if the monster they had in mind is the same as the real one based on Dunkan's explanation.
“And Luciella, protect Dunkan at the backline. Is that okay?” Laken asked considerately.
“I will do my best.” Luciella declared. Her eyes lit up the flames of determination. She seized her wooden wand to be ready.
“I can't believe the day that a beautiful elf lady could protect me instead. I'm pathetic.” Dunkan contemplates scratching his back. Luciella's kind smile made him rest easy.
“Now commence battle position!” Laken signaled the group. Everyone moved to their position. Eirisse goes to the left passage ensuring both ways.
The battlefield appears to be unstable. Xenon geared up his mode to a more logical tactic, “Accelerating Combustion Buster: Defender Mode.” Xenon's body transformed into an ironclad tank. His Stargazer changed into a sword and an enormous shield becoming an iron paladin.
His wings aren't that big and are used for hovering. His overall armor is designed for defending his comrades rather than assault force.
Laken threw a rock up ahead of the valley. Right after the land started to quake, the fog appeared to blurry their vision.
The wind became motionless and the sky turned pitch-black. Everyone instinctively went into defensive stance soon they felt the aura of the Nightbeast that's causing trouble in the Frostsiege Valley.
“Wait... that is?!” Xenon saw something that is enough to make him tremble a little bit.
He charged and geared up his golden heart, “Changing attribute: brave.” Xenon even forced himself to be brave just so he could face the enemy.
The winds breezes winter cold gust. What appeared before their very eyes was an atrocious abomination of gigantic Nightbeast that had the form of a human golem. Its eyes were four, red-blood colored. It has some strange tentacles behind its back ready to undertake.
Laken was so furious the moment it recognized what it is. He gripped his blade tighter. He bit his lips until it bleeds. The flames of vengeance holed up in his heart finally find a reason to burst out.
He is currently in the midst of life and death as his Revenant Metamorphosis takeover is being restrained thanks to Eirisse's silver choker.
Laken's Metamorphosis is the source of his rage. The silver choker is imbued with a vampiric enchant that contains one's emotions.
“Dark Entity, destroyer of the world, a Nightbeast that brings ultimate destruction.” Eirisse murmured to herself. There's no time to spare nor there's a choice to make, Eirisse began chanting spells to assist Laken and Xenon.
With Laken's rage as his weapon. His right arm burns azure flames. A kind yet excruciating fire that ignites Laken's sword. He doesn't feel pain nor feels afraid, rather only fury dwells upon his cursed sword.
He wasted no seconds. He instigated the battle thrusting towards the Nightbeast of destruction. “Wait, Laken!” Xenon hovered behind him to cover Laken just in case something unexpected happens.
The Nightbeast tried to command its tentacles to take care of the threat it feels in the vicinity.
Laken never wavers as he came slashing anything in his path. The burning blue flames Laken inflicted upon the Nightbeast's tentacle isn't something that could let it regenerate again.
“Cease to exist Dark Entity! Consuming s***h!” Laken quickly gashed the monster's gut to diminish its movement.
A lethal but silent strike. It's a form of sword technique to steal life from the target. The Nightbeast was forced to kneel down so Eirisse, a skilled witch will never let that opportunity be wasted.
She fixed the bridge of her eyeglasses that had a black frame, “Few hear the voice of the moon, few guides through the river Styx, freeze onto eternal slumber: Zero Stasis!” The soft yet strong voice of Eirisse echoed through the valley.
Without subjecting the two passages to be laid waste. The Nightbeast's feet were encased by the freezing wall of ice. Immobilizing its movement on the process.
It's an ice-type magic spell that traps the opponent in a glacier. Eirisse used it as an advantage from the environment. It only works on a giant-type monster or Nightbeast since they are quite slow on the uptaking.
Giving an opportunity to one another, Laken will also never lose the chance to strike.
He halted mid-air when a specific tentacle of the Nightbeast is about to spring out of his posterior.
Laken's instinct quickly discerns that it’s an assault meant to target Eirisse. It's smart enough to understand that targeting the spell caster first will make himself walk again.
“Xenon protect Eirisse!” Laken exclaimed, “Severe!” The quick tentacle deflected Laken's sword. It's up to Xenon to do the bidding.
“Maximum Energy Discharge: Iron Stronghold!” Xenon flew towards Eirisse's aerial vicinity. A thin wall of light revealed within a percentage of Xenon's energy manifested in his shield.
No matter the circumstances, he took the attack head-on. The impact's so powerful it pierced on his shield up to his shoulder.
The Nightbeast's actually draining his energy so Laken swiped the tentacle. Xenon came crashing down to the frozen river. Gas leaked out from his suit.
“Xenon! I will help you.” The worried Luciella was about to go where Xenon landed but Eirisse prevented her, “You must not! Focus on your job, he'll be just fine,” Eirisse told.
It's just Luciella feels so hopeless she couldn't do anything but to watch as her party member is being annihilated.
“Trust them. I can see the spirit of their bond. You're also doing your best by protecting me, aren't you?” The old man Dunkan encouraged Luciella again. She nodded in understanding and stayed to her task.
“Full Recovery Mode. Consume ten percent energy.” Small robotic arms extended from Xenon's chest to fix the damage on his shoulders works; an auto self-repair mechanism of a mechanoid defender. He can't move yet as he might c***k the frozen river to which he will be drowned instead.
“Taste the blade of my vengeance: Blighted Scorch!” Laken took his opportunity.
With a technique to bring down any titan-type monster. He let the flames of blade engulfed further. Gashing the tendons of its right leg to totally paralyzed the Nightbeast.
Taking the turn. The beast once again tried to hit Eirisse but this time she eluded shifting her position closer to the prey. She chanted a restraining spell, “Hear the words of the ancient, tremble before thy great creation: Chains of Epsilon!” Eirisse gestured as if wielding the tempest itself.
The surrounding wind beckoned the vicinity of the Nightbeast which manifested through her magic chains made out of zephyr strangled the neck of the giant Nightbeast.
It can no longer move. Laken accumulated an enormous amount of azure flames through his sword. He leaped through the Nightbeast's head; eager to take the last shot.
“I shall now behead you, Nightbeast!” Laken declared as his sword came severing down as if a thunder smiting the lands.
The Nightbeast was executed on the spot and the head fell into the ground returning to a black crystalized glint of particles. The azure flames prevent the monster from recovering.
Laken lowered his guard. He believed the Dark Entity's already down, is what he thought when Luciella exclaimed to warn him off, “Laken behind you!”
The moment he looked back, the tentacles quickly moved and struck Laken behind. He may have deflected one or two limbs but the might of all the tentacles forced Laken flung to the walls of the valley.
Slowly his consciousness was about to fade away. Xenon's shoulder hasn't finished repairing and Eirisse sought to aid Laken but she had not thought that would make things much worse.
