Richard joined us shortly after. He and Val shook hands and hugged each other. I stood back and watched them. They looked like old friends and a lot closer than they seemed last night. “What time is it?” Richard asked as he pulled out of the hug. “About one in the afternoon. Everyone should be getting up and I expect the people you called in soon. They didn’t live too far to begin with. I made sandwiches for everyone.
