With everyone so focused at the party I knew it was my chance to escape, I would never be his mate. I refuse. I don't care if the goddess were to strike me down, I will never be a second choice.
I heard the click of heels slamming against the floor. “Can you believe the twin’s are coming?!” I heard Grace's voice giggle. “They are supposed to be the most powerful beings to walk to the land of Nilynthe and they are coming to your birthday party.
“I know right, who know maybe I’ll be one of their mates,” Bianca chuckled. “Future ruler of Nilynthe has a good ring to it.”
“Orpheus and Azrael, even their names sound regal,” Grace gushed like a schoolgirl.
They stopped in front of my cell. “Anyway, I came down here to say that we will be giving you those lashes first thing at dawn,” Grace’s smile grew sadistic, Bianca seemed to not care for the situation anymore and looked at me with some pity. “Though it looks like some guards gave you clothes to warm you so let's just go ahead and fix that right now.” Grace grabbed the bucket of ice water and threw it on me. They walked out soon after laughing.
The clothes began to freeze against my skin. I growled thrashing against the chains as they burned into my wrist and ankle. Stop; focus. If the twins were going to be at the party all the guards would be there. I could get out of my chains if I tried hard enough and ignored the pain. I started with my left hand. I felt the chains burning into my skin but the blood gave the slipperiness needed and my hand slipped out. I reached up and worked on the next hand. With ease I fell to the floor slamming into the stone. I felt nothing right now. My body was so cold. I worked on getting the chains off my ankles but they weren’t budging but the wall they were mounted to was old and I was able to pick at the stone to release the chains that bound me to the wall.
Okay, one step down. I forced my emaciated body through the bars of the cell. My ribs bent until one snapped but gave enough leverage to push through. f**k would this all be worth it I wondered. But I couldn’t think right now I had to move . I hurried up the steps. I knew all the guards were at the pack house for the party so I would be clear for the next hour at least.
I peeked through the window looking around outside trying to see if any party guests were around, I would stick out and raise suspicion if anyone saw me. I saw a few people at the entrance of the pack house but too far for them to pay me any mind.
Pulling open the door let a huge blast of cold wind hit me, my bones were aching from it, but I needed to push through. Just make it past the lake that all that property belongs to the Nox family, they were the royals. I could hide out there in their land and make a new plan. I wanted to die at my own hands not ones of this pact.
I pushed myself through the door, stumbling into the cold fresh snow, now going behind the building into the forest I thought to myself. I could hear the cheers of happy birthday to Bianca beginning and sighed a ping of jealousy hit my heart. I had always wanted to be wanted, to be cared for and to be loved. It just wasn't in my cards and all I know was being alone and safe was better than being in this pack and tortured.
Managing to make my way through the first layer of trees I found myself losing track of where I was, hypothermia seemed to be taking over without a wolf to keep me warm. I was exposed. "Alpha Black, Hesperia has escaped and she is headed to Nox territory." I heard someone say. Damnit, I'm so close.
My vision was blurring but I kept pushing forward, I began to hear shots being fired off at me. I gasped feeling one of them pierce my left thigh. I fell to the floor trying to stand back up my hearing beginning to ring as bullets sores around me orders being shouted out. I lunged forward my last attempt to get away, spilling onto the asphalt of the road leading back to the pack house. A black Lexus RX swerving out of the way to not hit me.
The door of the SUV opened and the footsteps gradually got closer, the boots of the guards also swarmed around. A smell so powerful that it snapped me back to reality. The sandalwood wrapped in the air around me engulfed me, lighting a burning desire to find what was causing it. I searched for the source of all my desires, my eyes landing on him. The face was the very essence of what I had been longing for all the lonely years.
The man kneeled down tenderly pulling me into his arms already knowing what he had found and pressed his forehead to mine, "My mate." His voice the sound of an impossible song that lit my universe on fire. "My mate," I whispered back to him, the pain became unbearable, the cold was so prevalent that even the warmth of him could not help. The cold would only be described as death. I could hear screaming and orders being barked, but I could feel myself slipping away.
"No you cannot leave us, we've only just found you," someone whispered in my ear another voice that allured something inside of me. "You called to us so loudly, you cannot just disappear." I felt warm hands wrap around me and lift me up.
