Chapter Five
Ollie’s point of view
Me and Johnny had just been talking back and forth about random, unimportant and uninteresting things. I guess we were just working through the awkwardness… or just waiting until we were drunk enough that we didn’t care.
I finished the rest of my drink and noticed Johnny had finished his too. I picked up my glass and stood up.
‘I’ll get the next round in, yeah?’ He nodded, not looking up from his phone, but I had barely left the table when he called me back.
‘Tell you what bud, I’ll get them’. He went to take the glasses.
‘It's ok, I don’t mind’.
‘Nah, really, it's fine’. He took the glasses from my hands, smiled and walked back towards the bar. I sat back down and just watched. He hadn’t even reached the bar and the blonde was waiting for him, a big smile plastered across his face. I just rolled my eyes and looked away. The more I watched, the more it angered me.
Sure, we don’t know if I’m Pandora’s father, or if Jeremy is or if Johnny is, but he’s being so disrespectful towards her right now. It just didn’t sit well with me… at all.
I looked around the room aimlessly and noticed a table full of girls, as soon as I locked eyes on them, they looked away and I could see they were giggling and chatting amongst themselves. I couldn’t help but roll my eyes, playfully.
I’d say it was flattering but... I was kind of used to it. I wasn’t full of myself, It just is what it is.
Shaking my head, I looked away again, Just praying that they weren’t going to drink too much and come over here.
‘Hey?’ My head snapped up hearing a familiar voice, and Jeremy sat down across from me. ‘Mind if I join?’ I smiled, relieved actually, It meant he could be the barrier between me and Johnny.
‘Hey man, what are you doing here?’ He shrugged.
‘Kind of got into an argument with Amber, she told me to just come out and have some drinks with you guys’. I took a sharp breath in between my teeth, making a hissing sound.
‘Ooooo, now was that a genuine suggestion or a test?’ His whole face instantly drained of emotion and I couldn’t help but laugh loudly.
‘Shit.. do you think it was a test?’ His worry seemed so genuine, which only made me laugh more. I clamped a hand down on his shoulder, comforting him.
‘Don’t worry man; I’m sure it's fine’. He tried to laugh it off, but I could tell he was still worried. ‘Phone her, make sure’.
‘Nah... I-I’m sure it's fine.’. I nodded, agreeing. ‘So, where’s Johnny’. I pointed over at the bar where he was still chatting the girl up. Jeremy turned and looked at me, raising an eyebrow.
‘Yeah, I know’. He shook his head, clearly as disappointed as I was, and we started talking about his and Amber’s argument and what exactly it was about.
‘Hey Jeremy, I didn’t realise you were here’. I just looked up at Johnny as he put our drinks on the table. ‘Do you want a drink?’
‘Yeah, but I’ll go get it’. Before Johnny could protest, Jez was already gone. ‘How come he’s here?’ I just shrugged. It wasn’t my place to say. Funnily enough, Jeremy was back at the table in minutes.
‘So, what are you doing here?’ Johnny asked. I rolled my eyes. It wasn’t any of his business. Jeremy just shrugged.
‘Had a bit of a lovers' tiff with Amber’.
‘Oh yeah?’ I just drank my drink and kept out of the conversation.
‘Yeah, we’ve been fighting a lot recently... About the baby, so, you know..’ He trailed off, clearly not wanting to talk about it, but Johnny kept pushing.
‘Your baby or THE baby?’ He obviously meant Pandora when he said ‘’The baby’’.
‘Pandora. Amber thinks we should wait to do the DNA test for a few days.. Or weeks, I don't know, give Cathie some time to settle into the motherhood thing’.
‘How do you boys feel about that?’ I spoke up for the first time since they started their conversation. They shared a look. ‘Waiting days or weeks to find out which one of us has a little girl’.
‘She’s a beautiful baby, and I love her and her mother, but god, I hope she isn’t mine’. Jeremy admitted honestly, gulping his drink. I understand where he’s coming from. It would just make things more awkward if he was Panda’s dad. For himself and for Amber.
I just kept my mouth shut on the situation because honestly, since everything became a lot more real... I have no idea how I felt about it all. Much like Jeremy, I love Pandora and I love Cath but... It would just put the final nail in my friendship coffin with Johnny if he wasn’t her dad and I was. Even though he knows it's a possibility… he’d never forgive me.
‘No offence to you guys, but man, I’m hoping I'm her dad. I love that kid so much’. I looked at Johnny and saw how genuine his statement was. I didn’t doubt him for a second.
His phone going off, buzzing across the table breaking the silence between the three of us and he grabbed it and checked it. I watched as the biggest grin appeared on his face.
‘Right well..’ He downed the rest of his almost full pint and slammed the glass down on the table. ‘Gotta take a s***h, be right back’. He took his phone with him and stuffed it back into his pocket before he vanished off into the crowd.
Out of curiosity, my eyes wandered back to the bar and I saw the blonde follow him.
Really? He’s gonna shag her in the toilets? He’s a f*****g animal.
