Chapter Eight

Zariah’s POV Everything felt like it was happening so fast. The scary men from the club were in the field across the street. One threw a dagger at Venus and Bella. My good girls avoided it. The other warrior threw a circular blade that was on fire at me. I didn’t even think I just hit it with my knife like my knife was a sword. The warrior with the scythe knocked Venus to the ground hard. I screamed, “NO!” Bella bit his fingers off. Then I was grabbed by the man who called himself Caedan. He brought me to where he had been standing and was shoving me behind him. Behind him it looked like a vortex had opened in Xan’s driveway. It was swirling with many colors, and it was just growing bigger and bigger. I was still screaming “no” over and over, maybe even beating Caedan’s back with my fists. I was trying to get to my dogs. I will kill anyone who harms them. The warriors were running at us. Caedan picked me up and ran into the vortex of color. There was nothing but blackness. I felt someone shaking me. There was a loud ringing in my ear. I vaguely heard someone repeatedly saying “princess” I think. I feel like my head is swimming. Now someone is definitely tugging my arm and definitely saying, “princess.” I started to slowly open my right eye. It's not as bright as I thought it was going to be. So, I opened it a little more. There’s a shape of a man in front of me, but he’s very blurry at the moment. I start to open the left eye and that helps focus the man more. It’s Caedan I think. I reached up and grabbed my head to help with the dizzy swimming feeling. “What happened? Where am I? “WHERE’S MY DOGS?” I screamed that last part as I realized I couldn’t hear them anymore, and I was lying on the grass not on Xan’s driveway. It smells like we’re in a forest. I rub my eyes now to clear my vision more. I tried to get up, but my legs felt like jello. I kicked off my heels to rub some feeling back in my legs and feet. “You’re fine princess.” Caedan said. I look up at him as my vision clears. “What have you done to me? Did you kidnap me? Did you drug me?” I said as I started to scooch back from him on the grass. I looked around as I was moving away, and we were indeed in a forest. “You’re fine princess,” he said again as he reached his hand towards me. I tried to avoid his reach, but he just took my arm and helped me to stand up. My legs weren’t as wobbly anymore. “It is difficult the first time going through the portal.” He said. “You should be okay in another minute.” I took some deep breaths to calm down and center myself. When I had control, I brought my right arm back and then threw it forward, punching him in the left side of his face as I started to run the other way. The punch surprisingly knocked him back a step. He quickly caught me and tackled me to the ground quickly, turning me in his arms so he would hit the ground and not me. It felt a bit like I did though, landing on his hard muscular chest. I tried to get up and run again, but he pulled me back into his arms. “Stop this princess.” He said. I was beating on his chest. He rolled me over to the ground underneath him. I started to fight harder. “Please, I’ll give you money, whatever I can, just don’t hurt me.” I said, panicked. It is clear I can’t fight him. I just want to live and hopefully get to my dogs again. Just then he leaned down and kissed me. A bolt of lightning burst through me, it felt like. He was nibbling at my lips until I finally opened them, and he invaded my mouth with his tongue. I was squirming and kissing him back. Why am I kissing him back? “Because you like the feel of him kissing you.” Many voices said in my head in unison. Suddenly my wrist was burning. I pushed him off me like he was a rag doll as I sat up gripping my left wrist. Next thing, a bright light burst through my birthmark and there glowing in the air were seven creatures that looked like a holographic projection. One was a unicorn, the second was a white phoenix, the third was a polar bear, the fourth was a white wolf, the fifth was a white raven, the sixth was a white dolphin, and the seventh was a pegasus. I stopped screaming and was just staring at the creatures in the air in front of me. Each creature bowed to me and said, “Hello princess” all at once, as if they shared one voice between them, but I was hearing them in my head. I’m sure my mouth is wide open right now. Am I dead, I think to myself? They all laughed a little and said, “no” in unison. I must be dreaming then. I’m in my van right now dreaming of all of this, I thought. “No princess.” They all said again in my head still. Well, that’s it, I think, its official I’ve gone crazy. They chuckled at me in my head and said, “No.” In unison. We are your zaras, your magical protector’s princess. “I am Cloud. I represent your light magic.” The unicorn said. “I am Glo. I represent your fire magic.” The white phoenix said next. “I am Eclipse. I represent your shadow magic.” The white raven spoke after. “But you are white.” I said in my head in a bewildered tone. Eclipse just smiled and gave me a knowing look. “I am Dew. I represent your water magic.” Said the white dolphin. The pegasus stepped forward next and said, “I am Storm. I represent your air magic.” “And I am Blizz. I represent your magic over ice and snow.” The polar bear said. The white wolf moved forward like the pegasus Storm and said, “I am Jewel princess. I represent your earth magic.” They all spoke their names in my mind. I shakily replied, “N-nice to meet you I guess.” In my mind. They smiled at me, well their versions of smiling. Caedan had moved to my side and was staring at the creatures with his mouth wide open too. He shook his head like he was trying to clear the vision he was seeing and said, “What?” Great, that’s what I needed. More questions without answers. Speaking of which, I think he hasn’t answered any of my questions other than his name. “Let him speak.” I heard in my head from the voices. “We’ll be right here with you if you need us.” Just then they all seemed to disappear back into my birthmark. I looked at Caedan and said in a demanding tone, “I want to know what is going on, and no not answering me.” I hoped I had a stern look that said I meant business on my face. He stood up and put his hand out to me, so I took it and he helped me to stand. I brushed off the grass and debris from my legs. It’s kind of cold, but I’m going to endure this. He led me to a log close by and sat me on it. He started to pace back and forth in front of me.
