Unable to tear my gaze away, my pulse raced, and my stomach knotted. Is someone watching us right now? My paranoid self questioned. “Are you listening to me?” Beth spoke again. No one is watching. No one is here, I reassured myself. My breath escaped through pursed lips in a slow and controlled way, quieting my heart to a near normal rhythm. I stepped to the side. The camera remained immobile, silent. Another exhale released the tension in my shoulders. Apparently, my reassuring thoughts hadn't convinced me. “I s-said—” Beth's voice echoed in the empty chamber. “I heard you,” I muttered. Beth had her arms crossed, and she tapped her foot,
