Hearing that voice, the reaction of the three was different.
The kid just cast a cold sideways glance to the owner of that voice. His hold tightened in Geneva's hand.
Allen pouted because of anger but couldn't show it to him bravely. He turned a deaf ear at him and pretended not noticing his appearance.
The worst one was Geneva, her body stiffened at the very moment that the voice entered her ears.
Was she hearing things?
Why did that voice sound like that despicable devil?
Was she missing him again because of that drunk and messy night?
Absurdity. That was impossible. If there was a person she didn't want to see in her entire life, it was only him.
Footsteps came over and a certain person stood in front of them. With him around, the surroundings became either dull, extremely cold as if they were in the north pole, or suffocating and scary.
None of the three was willing to speak. Not entirely the three. Of the three, Geneva was shocked to death to the point she was unable to utter a single word. There seemed to have words in her mouth but her throat swallowed them back.
The certain devil first looked down at the kid, examined his son with his eyes, and spoke coldly without sparing a look to the two. As if their existence was nothing in his eyes. "Good that you're back."
As usual, the kid remained unbothered. He didn't even look at his father and only let his eyes pass through his side, completely no care of his father blocking their way.
"Of course, he is back." Allen snorted, interrupting the silent tension among everybody. "Thanks to Geneva, without her, your son would have been frozen to death. Well, thanks to you."
The devil slowly shut him a cold yet spine-chilling stare. "You got some nerve, huh? Are you sure your bones are stronger now?"
Allen looked away and harrumphed. "You only know how to flaunt your power in me. You're just luckier than me. I really regret that I was born later than you."
The devil ignored him, totally unaffected by him throwing a tantrum. He then only cast one more glance at his son and turned away to leave first after saying coldly, "Get inside."
"Little Love, Geneva, let's go." Allen patted Geneva's shoulder when he noticed that she was zoning out while staring at his devil uncle. "What are you spacing out about? You have been silent since the devil appeared. What? You're scared of him?"
"Who's afraid of who? I actually don't find him scary. He is just fine." Geneva swallowed her saliva and forced a stiff smile.
"Fine?" Allen felt Geneva's forehead and the latter slapped it off. "You don't have a fever. So why are you spouting nonsense? Him? Not scary? Just fine? You're the only one who is blind and praised him. Don't tell me you fell in love with him at first sight. If that's the case, you really have a bad taste."
"Nonsense!" Geneva's lips curved downward. "Don't speak nonsense here. I will never like a person like him."
Hearing that, Chen Lei halted on his steps and turned over. "Really? What's wrong with me?"
Geneva and Allen shot him a 'who cares' look.
Chen Lei walked back and stood in front of Geneva. "Miss Sanchez, I dare you look in my eyes and say you don't like me."
"What are you doing?" Allen butt in. "You promise me not to scare her. But what are you doing now?"
Chen Lei feigned innocence. "I did nothing."
Geneva smirked bitterly and then suddenly became serious. "You did this on purpose, didn't you?"
"Yes." Chen Lei provocatively stared at him.
"Why?"
"Because it's fun. It's interesting." Chen Lei smirked mysteriously.
"So it's fun." Geneva nodded and then smiled. "Yeah, it's really fun. You're so great. I never thought that it would be you."
Chen Lei raised a brow. "What? Do I look incompetent when it come such a thing? Oh it's not surprising. I guessed that's what you always think. No wonder—"
"Enough!" Geneva raised a voice. "You better take your son inside if you don't wish him to catch a cold."
"So you're even teaching me how to raise my son?"
"Wait! Wait! Wait!" Allen suddenly came in between them, shifting his sight back and forth towards the two. "What secret code did the two of you use? Why did I not understand a thing but I feel I did? I am confused now. I feel so strange. Why do I feel you two know each other? Do you really know each other?"
"Yes."
"No."
Geneva and Chen Lei answered simultaneously.
"What?" Allen frowned, heart suddenly felt uncomfortable. He gulped and forced himself to stay natural. "This is getting troublesome. Why did you have a different answer? What exactly is the truth? Do you know each other or not?"
"We're not." Geneva quickly replied.
Chen Lei didn't refute. He let Geneva do the talking but he was smirking secretly, finding the situation very interesting.
"Really?" Allen stared at her seriously and then at Chen Lei only to receive an arrogant eyebrow raise from the devil.
"Yes." Geneva firmly said. "Such a big figure like him, how could I have such luck to know him."
Chen Lei suddenly broke into laughter.
Allen cast an annoyed glance at him. "What's funny?"
"Interesting." Chen Lei mumbled as he chuckled, ignoring Allen's inquisitive stare and Geneva's scornful gaze.
"It's really strange of you. This is the first time I saw you laughing." Allen turned serious as he thought of something. "I'm warning you. Don't touch her."
Chen Lei stopped laughing. "You're threatening me?"
"I don't dare." Allen scoffed. "You're an elephant. I am just an insignificant ant. I don't have the gut to oppose you."
Chen Lei pursed his lips into a straight line as he sarcastically stared at Geneva.
Geneva ignored his stare and finally paid attention to the kid who was ignored by them. She crouched in front of him and apologetically spoke. "Darling, I'm sorry. I don't think I can send you in. I feel I don't deserve to step inside your home."
"Why not?" Chen Lei suddenly interjected. "Am I so scary? Even a woman as brave as you is afraid of me now?"
Geneva's brow arched. "Who's afraid of you?"
"Then come inside and have some tea. Didn't you want to talk to me about my son? Well this is your better chance. I am actually interested in what you will say to me."
"You're playing with me." Geneva's fists balled, gnashing her teeth.
"Miss Sanchez, I am not a normal person. Since I am giving you an opportunity to talk to me then grab it. Besides, there's no way for you to avoid me. Remember, I am your Big Boss."
"You planned this, right?"
"Geneva, what do you mean?" Allen interjected. "Why do I feel there's some underlying meaning in your every word? Actually he said nothing wrong. He is indeed your Big Boss since he is Little Love's father."
Chen Lei smirked. "We better come in. Allen, escort them inside the house."
