Chapter 14: Unique Bar

Geneva gradually opened her eyes. "Where am I?" Geneva sat up immediately when she found herself lying on the hospital bed. She explored her eyes in the room and it widened as she remembered something. "The kid?! Where's the kid?" Geneva pulled the wire that stuck in her hand and sprinted towards the door. When she was about to pull it open, the door was pushed from the outside and a mid-forties nurse popped in. "Oh, you're awake." She smiled and tugged her back on the bed. "You seem fine now. But why did you pull the wire off by yourself? Doesn't it hurt?" "I'm fine." Geneva grabbed the nurse's arms. "Nurse, I really need to leave. The kid. I have to find the kid. He is alone. I'm afraid something will happen to him. Please, let me out." The nurse pulled her hands off, smiling stiffly. "Miss, you're hurting me." "Oh I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm so careless just now. But—" Geneva let go of her as if she was burnt. As if she was not herself. As if she lost her mind. The fear in her eyes was so evident like she feared that someone was gonna die in a moment. "The kid, I—" "Alright. You don't have to be nervous." The nurse smiled sweetly, patting her back. "I will let you out today. But, Miss, you must not be hard on yourself. You know what. If no one saw you when you fainted in the washroom, I can't imagine what happened to you. You probably hit your head and got amnesia or something else. It's scary. You—" "Okay. Okay. I will note that in the future. But nurse, I really have to go." Geneva stared at her with begging eyes. "The kid is not feeling well. I am sure he is waiting for me. God, I made him wait for four hours. Did he eat something? I'm worried he is not. That kid is special and emotionally unsteady. What if, what if?" She held her head. She teared up, heart full of remorse. "I am really useless. How can I leave him alone?" "Calm down. You can't blame yourself." The nurse tapped her shoulder. "You didn't wish this to happen too. Alright, you can leave now. Well, I forgot to tell you that you're actually not in the hospital. This is only a clinic. The restaurant you entered downstairs is my son's restaurant. Since you are looking for the kid, perhaps I can help you. Let me ask my son to do the check. Is that fine? You better calm down first since you have just woken up." Geneva was forced to smile. "Alright. Then,, thank you for your hard work." The nurse only made a call out of the room and after five minutes, she came back. With a smile, she said, "Miss, you don't have to worry about the well-being of the kid. My son said that the kid's family took him away. Actually a mess happened this morning. The kid refused to leave without seeing you and he created trouble. But after his family coaxed him for so long, he finally gave in. So now, the kid was back home with his family. He is safe. You can relax now." Geneva fiddled her thumbs and sat dejectedly at the edge of the bed. She lowered her head and sighed silently to ease the discomfort that she felt. As if taking the kid felt like losing a child for her. "It's great. It's great then. I don't have to worry anymore." The nurse walked over and sat on her side. "Miss, you should just cry if you're sad. I can tell that you like the kid a lot. Otherwise you won't be that sad." Geneva smiled bitterly. "Yeah. I like him a lot. I just met him but he already occupied a space in my heart. Everytime I look at him, it feels like I'm looking at my own child." "You have a child?" The nurse was looking surprised. She didn't expect that a young looking girl like her was already a mother. "Then where is he?" "Dead." Geneva's eyes teared-up even more. "It's been six years." "Oh I'm sorry. I shouldn't ask such a thing. My mouth, really is—" "It's fine. I—" The sound of an incoming call interrupted their conversation. Geneva looked over the table and in there, she found her purse kept ringing and brightened. She quickly reached for it and as she saw the name of the caller on her phone screen, she knocked her head. "Oh no, I forgot about him again. He must be very upset with me now." Geneva didn't answer the call. She stuffed her phone back inside the purse and stood up, preparing to leave. "Aunt, thank you for taking care of me. I am fine now. I have to go back too. I still have some business I need to attend to. Thank you." The nurse nodded. "You must be careful on your way." She smiled beautifully, bowed at her and then left hurriedly. On her way downstairs, her phone rang again and only by then she answered the call. "What's up?" "Hey Geneva, do you still remember who I am?" The man yelled on the phone. "How dare you ask me that? I waited for you for the entire day, you didn't even remember to call me. I almost turned into a dead tree in the airport and my neck had seemed to turn into the giraffe's neck from stretching to check on you in every direction. Geneva, am I really your friend? You promised me twice this morning but you also broke your promises twice. This is clearly bullying! Where's your conscience? Huh?" "Auh, you must be forgotten. I don't have a conscience." Geneva massaged her temple. "Why don't you try reminiscing about the cruel thing I did to you?" "f**k! You damn woman, you dared to mention that thing again?" Geneva scoffed. "You asked for it. Man, you should be glad. This time, I only made you wait." "You— forget it. I'm too lazy to argue with you. We better get down to business. Are you free tonight?" "Yes. But I'm sorry. I'm not in a mood to play with you. Look for someone else." "Woman, you better compensate me! You ditched me this morning and made me stand there like an i***t. Now, whatever reason you have, I don't care! You have to come! I will wait for you in the Unique Bar! Remember, I won't go home until you come. Goodbye!" "Hey, hey, wait! Don't hang up yet!" Geneva shouted on the phone in order to stop the other person. But the ending was the same. He still hung up on her. He seemed determined to avenge her. Geneva cursed inwardly, "f**k! This man is really childish." Geneva went back to the washroom of the restaurant again, fixed herself a little bit, and asked a taxi to send her to the said bar. Inside the bar, every individual was wild and already drunk. Some were clinking their glasses of wine on the table while cheering. Some were dating in a corner— hugging and kissing. And the majority of them were dancing wildly and lively on the floor— swaying their hips and shaking their boobs or chest. In fact, almost everyone on the dance floor behaved like a totally wasteful person as they went along with the music and colorful and dancing spotlights. Geneva looked around and found the person she was looking for at the counter. She went over and sat next to him. "Whiskey." Allen was not surprised by her arrival. At first, he planned to ignore her for a few minutes but seeing her clothes from the edge of his eyes, he almost spurted the wine in his mouth. He struggled to swallow and then coughed a lot, eyes were welling up. Geneva threw him a sidelong cold glance. "What's wrong with you? Did someone scare you?" "Cough, Geneva, are you that poor? You-you came here looking like that?" Geneva examined herself, frowning, "What's wrong with my outfit? It's quite fine." "Holy sake! You wore these clothes since this morning and you met me this night without even dressing up. Are you looking down on me?" "I'm here to just accompany you without having a date with you. Besides, you forced me to come. So don't be picky." "You— you are really—" Allen was shaking in anger. He turned away and clenched his fists on the counter. He then chugged the bottle of wine in one go and closed his eyes, easing the rage in his heart. "Forget it! Forget it! I should just get used to this. Since when did you place me in your heart." Allen smiled bitterly. Geneva sighed, rubbing his back. "You're just drunk. You're getting emotional again."
