Chapter 90: I Think I'm Stupid

"Are you really a man? How can you deny your feelings in front of me?" Jasper nudged Allen in a teasing but reserved way.

"Hmmp! I'm not in the mood to talk with you." Allen put a sullen expression on his face as he turned to the direction.

Jasper patted the man's shoulder. "Alright. I just noticed that you are so uneasy, that's why I teased you. But, I still believe that you like her whether you would admit it or not— Hey the doctor is out."

Allen and Jasper quickly met the doctor and wasted no time about the condition of the woman. While Arthur and Chen Lei just kept still on the side.

"Who is the patient's boyfriend?" The doctor asked as he looked at the two men huddling each other in order to get the news first. "I need to talk to him."

Jasper and Allen exchanged a confused look at each other. "Boyfriend? She has no—"

"It's me." Chen Lei instantly cut Jasper's words. He walked slowly in front of the doctor and waved Jasper aside. "What is it? Do you need something, doctor?"

"Oh, it's you." The doctor eyed Chen Lei up and down. "Can we talk privately?"

"Hey, when did you become Geneva's boyfriend?" Allen tapped his uncle's arm. "How could you be shameless? She doesn't even want to see you."

"Shut up." Chen Lei glared at Allen and then Jasper threateningly. "Stop creating trouble. Otherwise, you will regret it."

"There you are again! Scaring us with your power." Allen sulked and ignored him. "Doctor, we are also the patient's good friends. We are here to know her condition. What is there about her that we can't hear? This man is not her boyfriend. He is the scumbag who hurt her! We won't feel assured for the safety of the patient in his hands. We want to know. You can tell us here directly so everyone will know

"

"This is—" The doctor in the difficult situation. His eyes were running back and forth to Allen and others. "Everybody, since you cared a lot for her, then don't make things hard for me. This gentleman is the one who brought her here, so I believe he didn't wish that something would happen to her. I still have plenty of things to do. I still have more patients to attend to. Please be considerate and don't make things hard for me. I only want to talk to one person and I think this man is the best choice."

"Impossible!" Jasper and Allen exclaimed in unison.

"I told you. This man is a scumbag!" Jasper said, pointing at Chen Lei. "You're putting the patient's in danger if you continue to act like this."

Arthur could only shake his head on the side while watching the show.

Chen Lei gestured his head to the doctor and the doctor already understood what the man was trying to say.

He sighed. "Alright. I will say it here. The patient is still in a coma. Her case is so rare. After the tests we performed on her, we found nothing wrong with her body. In short she is healthy. So we can tell that the patient suffered a serious emotional trauma that caused her to fall ill. Everybody, since you are her good friends, I advise you not to anger or provoke her. Otherwise, she will be in danger."

"Doctor, you said she suffered a serious trauma. What traumatized her?" Allen asked?

"It's something that she is unable to accept. Something that stimulates and triggers the pain and fear in her past that has been long buried in her heart. She must have been in intense pain lately and eventually broke down."

"How could this be? What did Geneva suffer in the past that hurt her that much?" Jasper mumbled? "It must be this rascal's fault!"

Allen took the man's hand and shook his head to him. "Stop pointing at him. We don't know what actually happens before this. By the way, she was taken away by someone earlier. Did that person do something or say something to her?"

Jasper pondered upon remembering that incident. "Doctor, how is her body? Did she suffer physical abuse?"

"No. There is no sign that she was abused physically. She is physically fine."

"That's good then. At least."

"Then doctor, can we go visit her now?" Allen asked.

"Yes. You can. But please minimize your voice. The patient is resting. And also, avoid conflicting her emotions. That's all. I have to leave "

"Thank you, doctor."

Allen and Jasper rushed inside the room while Arthur and Chen Lei followed silently in unhurried steps.

Allen and Jasper stood next to Geneva's bed while Chen Lei just stood from afar. In his eyes, there was only the woman and him in that room. And the woman's condition was breaking his heart. He did not come closer to the bed not because he did not want to start an argument with the other two men in the room, but because he was guilty. He was blaming himself that the woman fell into that condition.

He felt that he did not deserve to see her again.

No one had talked in between them. But the tension between the men was still roaming in the air. Perhaps they thought about what the doctor had said. If they argue in front of her, it would add to the factors that could stimulate the unstable emotions of the woman.

After five minutes of silence with only starting and silent war among them, Chen Lei turned his back at them. He was about to leave when Arthur spoke. "Young Master, are you leaving already? Where are you going?"

Chen Lei did not listen to him and continued leaving the room. Thus, Arthur had no choice but to follow him outside the room. "Young Master, where are you going? Are you thinking of going home to rest?"

Chen Lei halted and faced his secretary as they arrived in the hallway. "Arthur, I will return home. I still have a lot of things to do before I can rest. I also have something to settle first. You just stay here. Look after here and there's something needed, call me."

"I will stay here? Why?" Arthur's brow furrowed. "It's very late already. I can go back with you. Allen and Lieutenant is here. I don't think I still need here."

"I said if you stay then you have to stay. No more discussions." Chen Lei's tone showed a hint of displeasure. "Arthur, I want you to stay here not because you are needed but because I want you to keep me updated about her condition."

"Do you want me to inform right away when she wakes up, right?"

Chen Lei took two seconds before he answered by a nod. "I only want to make sure that she is fine. And I will be relieved. I'm a busy man. I can't just stay here and watch after her."

Arthur took a step and leaned his back against the wall. Feeling dad for the two of them. "If you really want to look after her, you can stay. No one can stop you if you have that plan in mind. But, after what happened, I know you won't see her even if she wakes up. Am I right?"

Chen Lei kept his cold demeanor, pretending that he was tough and unbothered by the problems about love. However, God knew how his heart bled for the woman. He hated her and thought of avenging himself against her. But, when he saw her crying and suffering, his heart was aching for her.

He was clearly madly in love with her. He could not change that fact no matter how long year's would pass.

Chen Lei lowered his head and took a deep breath silently. "Arthur, you know that I love to see her very much. But, I know that she doesn't want to see me. She always told me that she doesn't want to see me. She hates to see me. She kept begging me to stay away from her but I still insisted and forced myself to her. I wanted to show her that she can't get rid of me. In the end, it only hurt her this badly. I just don't understand. She is the one who hurt me back then and made me a fool, why was she acting as if I am the one who caused her suffering from the very beginning? I did not force myself on her back then."

"That only means she truly loved you before… Chen Lei, I have never been in a relationship but I can see her pain when she looks at you. I can see her hatred towards you. It looks like she really suffered a lot for all these years you have not seen each other."

"Weren't I also suffering much? Besides, she didn't love me. I clearly heard from her mouth that she doesn't love me. Hurting me should bring her happiness, not like this. As if my existence is her pain."

"Chen Lei, have not ever crossed your mind that what if you misunderstood her? What if what you heard is not the truth? If you think about the situation of the two of you clearly, I can't help but think that there is a big misunderstanding between you two. However, what you did to her after was the cruelest one. You just abandoned her like a useless object after you took everything from her. It's you who ruined her."

Chen Lei closed his eyes and shook his head. "I think I'm stupid."

"Don't say that to yourself."

A short and self-ridiculing chuckle came out from his mouth. "I don't know what I should think and what I should believe right now. Our situation really confused me. Do you think that is funny?"

Arthur patted the man's shoulder. "Stop thinking about it. Just go home and rest. Perhaps, after a rest, you can see things through clearly."

Nodding, Chen Lei slowly walked away without a word. Arthur who watched his leaving figure found the man's back so lonely and regretful.

Arthur sighed. "I hope this problem will be solved as soon as possible by yourself. And stop hurting yourself. Stop hitting each other because clearly, you still love each other. Love without experiencing pain is not true love."
