I followed my mother blindly into the huge palace where I was called in for work by the Royals. Walking slightly ahead of Kelly, I felt entrapped between both of them. Deshawn, my eldest brother had already been off to do his chores with my father.
"Remember, just nod." Mother was shaking with terror, the terror of giving another one of her innocent daughters to those devils. I could see her rubbing her hands nervously.
We reached a big hall where they were having breakfast together.
"Morning Madame Noela!" My mother stuttered to get their attention while rubbing her hands shakily.
They were perched around a huge table for breakfast with lots of food in front of them. My sister moved behind me uncomfortably. Lord George, who was the owner of the palace and the husband of Madame Noela, roughly raised his head and watched my mother in annoyance, his eyes then darted at me very quickly. I lowered my head to avoid eye contact and remained silent.
I've heard about him, out of all the Royals, this family was the messiest one. The Hunters, where my family was bound to work, were not known for kindness.
"Is this your daughter?" Madame Noela questioned in her raspy voice. Along with her was seated Princess Flora, wearing a beautiful pink gown. They all had wonderful clothes on, but their frowning was making them look uglier.
"Shanice will be at your service now, as promised." My mother stuttered, pushing me ahead gently.
The sudden feeling of being examined made me gulp the fear down my throat and drown my eyes in order to show them respect.
"Morning," I uttered very softly, clamping my hands in front of my body.
"At last someone not so horrible looking." Madame Noela joked, letting Princess Flora and Lord George chuckle. I noticed my sister stepping even away from us, so they were bullying her.
"She will clean the rooms more specifically change the bedsheets." Madame Noela mumbled before gulping freshly prepared orange juice.
None of us had our breakfast so the sight was quite tempting. I gave her a nod to let her know I understand and at the same time, I felt someone watching me.
I lifted my head slightly enough to catch the sight of Prince Luke, who was looking at me. I'll be honest, I didn't notice him before.
I was so anxious at their questionable eyes that I failed to pick up the details of the surroundings.
He had his one hand on the table and the other was resting behind the chair. His body was all leaned towards one side, weird people. He smirked, licking his lips but his eyes weren't on my face, he was shamelessly scanning my body.
"You two into the kitchen and Shanice you wait for me outside the corridor." Madame Noela then ordered us, making my mother and sister leave me as I walked to the corridor all by myself. There was a huge corridor on the front of the building, fresh air would pass freely through the corridor.
I walked to and fro in the corridor, mentally preparing myself for the worst kind of torture. I stayed there for a moment, looking at the male workers as they walked by. I felt bad for them, I've seen these men in the village.
I couldn't stop thinking about my first encounter with the Royals.
I didn't like any of them at the first glance, they all seemed to be high in their heads, and which they were by the way. I walked in the corridor from one side to the other, very slowly. They used to have another daughter before Prince Luke, Princess Marion; she died years ago. She used to walk in this corridor, her personality was totally different from all of her family, at least that's what I've heard from the workers of this family.
"Hey!" I heard a loud yet melodic voice from behind me. For a moment, I was startled because every time they call your name, you are in a trouble.
I hesitated to turn around for a moment, having countless thoughts in my mind, but somehow, I swirled my body around and saw a tall, broad shoulder guy in a suit.
His shirt was all messy, his tie out of place, and why the hell was he even wearing a tie if he couldn't mend it? He had a bottle of something in his hands.
A bottle and a tall guy, ugh! I guess I knew who I've encountered. It has to be Prince Warrick. He had no count on his steps, he kept tripping around. I have been told to stay away from him, I knew in the back of my head that I was in grave danger now.
"You!" he continued, after chugging the beer down his throat. I slowly nodded and walked towards him, mentally dying inside.
"HM!" he eyed at his shoelaces, I guess he wanted me to tie them. I might be their maid, but it wasn't my job, I wish it wasn't. I tried to shut the inner stubborn free soul inside me, but it kept manipulating my mind. There was a part of me that was rebellious, for a worker, it was too egoistic.
"Sorry, but it's not my job. I'm assigned to change the bedsheets---," I started mumbling, my fingers nervously playing together and my head down. He watched my face in silence for a moment and then forwarded his beer bottle towards me. He had his hand extended towards me, holding the beer bottle.
"I'm sorry, but I'm a worker, I can't drink." I denied it, it was considered rude to use the same utensils or stuff as Royals. I kept my head low and then heard a loud grunt.
I had to lift my eyes to see what he desired from me. He had a very prominent jawline, his lips were fuller and very luscious.
"Hold!" He said, his eyes were looking for a deep stare, they were narrowed and just breathtaking. I held the bottle and waited to understand what he wanted me to do.
He bent down and began doing his laces, oh so, from the beginning of the time, he wanted me to hold the bottle so he that he could tie his laces. I was a bit confused about him, he was strangely silent and the mysterious aura around him was terrifying.
"There you are." I jumped once again, but this time Prince Luke briskly walked in our direction. I don't know who he was looking for but I wished it wasn't me.
"You skipped breakfast again." Prince Luke roughly noticed my presence and stated as he looked at his brother, Prince Warrick, "and drunk." Prince Luke waved his hand in the air in disappointment.
"The table full of so much food makes me want to throw up. All the food that we waste, we will answer for that." Prince Warrick stated, there were a few things that caught my attention.
Firstly, He had the most melodic voice ever.
Secondly, was he just saying that as an excuse or did he really mean that?
I've been told he was the one who never communicated with anyone, was it a good thing or a bad thing?
"Answer who?" Prince Luke ignorantly raised his brow, "This food and everything is made for us humans, so what's wrong with enjoying it?" he added. I was uncomfortably waiting for Prince Warrick to take his bottle back.
Also, standing in the middle of them was giving me creeps. I'm not ashamed to say this, but I was scared in their presence.
"Really?" Prince Warrick smiled for the first time, but it was a sarcastic little smile, "you, did you have anything in your breakfast?" out of the blue, he asked me.
I trembled at first and then shook my head as I kept it down. "See, the rules are not even the same for all humans." I don't know about Prince Warrick but whatever I have heard about him was proven wrong, so far.
I assumed he believed inequality, I could be wrong.
"Don't talk about them. They are mistakes." Prince Luke poked his fingernail in my cheek. I wasn't expecting that, so when that happened my heart fell into the deepest pit and died there.
If I could, I'd have just turned to him and kick him in the nuts, but then my whole family would pay the price.
Prince Luke had his hands very clumsily moving around as he used his gestures to communicate with his brother along with his deep husky voice.
"Listen, Madame Noela is very anxious about your actions. She wants you to be present in the hall for an evening party." Prince Luke stated, what he did was nothing for him but it did shake my whole existence.
I felt his sharp nail-pierced against my cheek, making me live through the pain.
"Why, so she can show me off to her older friends and tease them with our looks?" Prince Warrick took a wild sip of his beer and stared at his brother dead in the eye.
"I can’t believe how you can say these things in front of these muds." Prince Luke eyed me disgustingly and pushed me away from his side by using his one hand. I didn't even raise my head, that's how terrified I was. I landed on the wall, luckily it prevented me from tripping.
"Why? Isn't she going to be the one serving the Royals in the carnival too? Oh, and if it's an evening party in the palace, she will be much needed." Prince Warrick muttered, his eyes still at his brother. What did he mean by that?
