Tamara’s pov
There was a knock on the door, and I caught my mother’s scent.
I opened the door, and she came in and sat down.
I heard her sigh the moment she sat down.
"You are strong, and I don't doubt it one bit. But you are also my only daughter, and being a leader is really hard." She said.
"I know, but someone has to step up, right? The elders won't let you extend your time as Alpha King and Queen Luna." I said and she nodded.
For once in my life, I saw my mother defeated and hopeless. My mother has always been someone who had the answers to everything. She has always known what to do or what to say.
I looked at my mother, and she was still as beautiful as ever. With her age, she had grown even more beautiful.
“You are so strong, stronger than you know.” She said, then smiled. She could tell that I didn't believe her. She is my mother, and it is her job to say such things.
“Remember when you turned into a wolf for the first time?” she asked me, and I nodded.
“It was so painful. I felt like I was going to die.” I said.
“That’s how you remember it, but do you want to know how I remember it?” she asked me, and I nodded.
“You were only 15 years old, and we had gone camping. I had no portions with me, so I couldn’t help you deal with the pain. But you did it. As your bones were busy cracking and changing, you endured the pain. Did you scream? Yes, you did, but you kept pushing and pushing until you became a beautiful and strong wolf.” She said.
Is that how she remembers it? Is that how she saw me back then?
“That’s what is needed in a leader. A leader is someone who endures.” She said.
“And do you remember that one time when rouges attacked?” she asked me, and I nodded.
“They caused so much destruction. Most werewolves were injured.” I said and nodded.
“I wasn’t there, but who healed them? Who found the cause of their illnesses and made a cure just in time?” She asked me.
“I did, but it wasn’t that hard.” I said, and she shook her head.
“I know you are stepping up to protect your brothers." She said and held my hand. "We become extremely strong when we want to protect something."
“Do you know what else is required of a leader?” She asked me, and I shrugged. I honestly don’t know what else is required and if I have it.
“Action, action speaks louder than words.” Mom said.
"Let's go and tell everyone." Dad said, opening the door. He was obviously listening to us talking, and I looked at my mother.
"Are you ready to be Alpha Queen?" She asked me, and I nodded.
We went downstairs, and I couldn't help but look at my mother. She was obviously worried, and she had every right to be. And this won't be just a chance for me to protect my brother but everyone from them. I know that they are coming, and they will wreak havoc on the world.
It all started as a dream, but now I know for certain that it was all a warning. I will be Alpha Queen and protect my people from the unknown Alpha and also from the women in black.
"Well, you still have a long way to go before you can become Alpha Queen.” Dad said, and everyone looked at him.
“There is an Alpha, and they have been saying things about us. They were against me being Queen Luna, but they couldn’t stop it back then.” Mom said and looked at Dad.
“But now they can. The family now has two sons. One of the sons is Darius Dawn, I believe.” Dad added to what she said.
“He is strong from what we hear, really strong.” Mom added.
“Are you saying what I think you are saying?” Uncle Bryan asked.
‘What are they saying?” Jennifer asked the one question we all had in mind.
“That he could contest your appointment. If this Darius character does contest, then you will have to go up against him for the title. In a do-or-die match.” Mom explained.
“You are only thinking of saying this now?” Rowan asked our mother, who glared at him. This made him look down.
“Does that change your decision?” Mom asked me.
“Do you still want to be Alpha Queen, kiddo?” Dad asked.
I nodded. I know this Alpha person will be a threat to us, but I know he is nothing. He isn't what I fear now, because I know something bigger is coming.
You see, a few months ago, I started having these dreams.
I see the world burning down and everyone around me dying.
These women in black seem to be responsible for it, and it feels too real to be just a nightmare.
It always feels like I have traveled to the future and lived through that experience.
The day went on, and soon night came, and I went to sleep.
I was back there again, and there was fire everywhere I looked. Werewolves were running in all different directions, and something else caught my eye.
The women in black in most of my dreams are never together, but this time it was different.
They had formed a circle, and there was someone else in the middle screaming and crying.
I walked closer to them, and my mother was inside the circle. She was screaming and crying as multiple cuts appeared on her body.
I called out to her, but in this world, it is as if I don't exist. No matter how many people I try to help, it's like I am not there. Even the world itself is in black and white. That is why I call the women The Women in black.
I screamed at the top of my lungs as they were killing my mother and all I could do was watch.
One of the women in black turned, and her eyes landed on me.
I thought that no one could see me here in this world.
"You do not belong here, leave." She pushed me.
I woke up on the floor instead of my bed.
What just happened?
I mean, I always had a feeling that it was more than a dream, and now I am sure.
How on earth did that woman see me? She even touched me, and what did she mean when she said that I didn't belong there?
My parents are already worried and if I tell my mother this, then they will stay.
They have been planning on traveling around the world.
And if they are traveling the world, then those women won't be able to reach my mother and kill her.
This is something that I will have to face on my own.
I decided to go out for a run since it was almost dawn.
I didn't change to my werewolf form but ran in my human form instead.
That's when I heard it.
"Yes, we will support Alpha Darius no matter what." A man said.
I stopped walking and listened to their conversation.
There is only one reason why people would meet so early in the morning. That is the fact that they are planning something that isn't good.
"The Alpha King was a purebred werewolf, which is why we didn't object to him. But his kids are not purebred werewolves. None of them can ever be Alpha, not as long as we are alive." Another man said.
So this is serious.
"Shhh, there is someone behind that tree." One man said.
"Come out, whoever you are. If you do, we will be merciful and give you a fast death." Another added.
I didn't stop, and they would kill me for certain if they found me. These people are plotting against my family, and it's treason. And I am also one of the hybrids they hate so much and can't stand. If they get me, I will be dead for sure.
Austin wasn't wrong. I am stronger and faster than him.
Actually, not a lot of people can match my speed.
So I turned to my heels and ran as fast as I could.
When I was sure that I had completely lost them, I walked back home and by then the sun was rising.
I got showered and ready for the day.
I went downstairs for breakfast with everyone.
I looked around, and the mood was sour. No one was speaking and everyone was just eating and minding their own business.
We don't live in the pack house like how the family of the Alpha should live.
Some of the pack members were bullying me and Austin, so our parents decided to move. But despite that, our home was always so lively because we had other family members as well.
Tonight is a big event, and no one seems to be looking forward to it.
As we were eating, someone came in without knocking.
"Aunt Rosalinda, this is my home, not the Packhouse. You should knock before coming in." Dad said, and Rosalinda scoffed.
"I came to tell you the good news." Aunt Rosalinda said and mom rolled her eyes.
"I will be supporting Alpha Darius tonight. Trust me, he will contest, and your precious son will die." She said with a smirk.
"Your home will be a mourning ground very soon." She added, before leaving, and Dad looked at me.
Even my own great Aunt supports this person. Do I even have a chance against him?
