Chapter 3: half she wolf

1749 Words
Tamara’s pov I looked around the room, and all eyes were on me. "It's okay if you change your mind now, Kiddo." Dad said. “No dad, my answer is still the same.” I said and closed my eyes to hide my heartbeat. I am hiding it because I am in a room full of werewolves who can easily tell how scared I am. And being a hybrid has such benefits that I can hide my heartbeat by just chanting a few words. Actually, I am not really good at spells, but I am a master at this one because of one thing. This spell allows me to hide. I can enter and leave a room without attracting notice. I am scared of a do-or-die match. “Wait, did you just say Darius? Do you mean Alpha Darius of the Moonstone Pack?” Uncle Bryan asked, and mom nodded. “What’s the big deal about this Alpha?” Austin asked the same question I had in mind. “He is ruthless, kills without a second thought, and is the reason that the Moonstone Pack is growing at such rapid speed. He is a killing machine.” Grandma said as she was coming in. She hugged Rowan before coming to Austin, and she hugged Austin and me and us as well. She then looked at my mother, and they just shrugged their heads. “Ashton.” Grandma said, and Dad smiled his usual gentle smile. “Mother.” He said, and that was it. That was the only greeting they would ever exchange with one another. “What? So, you are saying that sister will go up against this man?” Rowan asked, looking at me. “That is if he does come to the event.” Dad said, and mom scoffed at this. “Ohhh, he is coming. I always knew that something like this would happen.” Mom said, and then took out a document. She then handed it to me, and I started reading. “The match won’t happen right away.” I said. “What do you mean not right away? That’s how it has always been?” Grandma Sophia said. “Well, we changed things.” Dad said, and then looked at me with a smile. Austin also took a look at the document, and just like me, he couldn’t believe what he saw. “This says that the challenge can only happen after 6 months.” Austin said after reading the document. “That’s not all. It also says that whoever it is that will challenge me will stay here for that period of time.” I added. “What? What were you thinking, Taylor? Why would you come up with such a stupid rule? Why would you invite our enemies to our home?” Grandma Sophia asked mom. “My home Sophia, you had your time as Queen Luna and did nothing to bring about change. You don’t have any right to question me.” My mother answered. “Mother, the reason Taylor did this was because I came up with the idea.” Dad said. “Over the years, I have learned something. I have learned that enemies can arise from your loved ones and also enemies can one day become your loved ones.” The room was silent because dad was telling the truth, and we have so many good examples to take from this. Dad always hated Uncle Blake and thought he couldn’t be trusted at first. That is what Dad told me, and now they are like brothers. Aunt Amber was Aunt Talia’s enemy, and now they are happily married and more in love than ever. Then we have Aunt Ann, who started a war for the title of Alpha a long time ago. She killed her own father. Some people think that he deserved it, but I think there could have been a better solution to all of that. “It’s easy for people from other packs to hate us. So, hopefully, when this Alpha stays here, then he will see that we are not his enemy.” Dad added. “All we can do is buy you some time. Would 6 months be enough to win this Alpha person over?” Mom asked me. “Win him over? Didn’t you hear what I said? He is a ruthless man.” Grandma said. Grandma has always been the glass half empty kind of person, while my parents are the opposite. My mother is quick to anger, but she does give people the benefit of the doubt at times. “We should get ready for the ceremony.” Uncle Bryan said. Everyone went to their rooms to get ready, and it kept stressing me out. I caught two scents, and I couldn’t help but smile as they knocked on the door. “Look at that, if it isn’t the Alpha Queen.” Lana said, and I smiled at that. “You look beautiful.” Aunt Luna said as they came into my room. I got up and hugged them both. Lana is a little younger than me and is a tribrid. Her father is the vampire Blake, and her mother is a werewolf. But it turns out, before her father got turned, he belonged to a family of witches, hence the tri. “Where is everyone else?” I asked, expecting to see Aunt Talia and Aunt Amber. “Your aunts couldn’t make it, but Talia promised me that she would be here soon.” Aunt Luna said. “You seem scared.” Lana said, and I nodded with a smile. “Well, there is no need to be. I know you will make a great Alpha Queen.” She said. They started helping me get dressed. “I heard about the Alpha, and that’s stressing out your parents.” Lana said after her mother left us alone. “What about him?” I asked her, and she just shrugged. “He just sounded like my type, ruthless and cutthroat. I heard he is our age. I bet he is hot.” She said, making me chuckle. “He might kill me.” I said and just shrugged as she did the final touches of my makeup. “I wouldn’t mind dying in the hands of a hot man, like, yes, strangle me daddy.” She said, and I couldn’t stop laughing. Lana is the opposite of her mother as well, just like I am the opposite of my mother. She is outspoken, she speaks her mind, and she is strong as well. “You will make a great Alpha Queen, just like how my mother was the perfect Vampire Queen.” She said, as if reading my mind. She held my hand and smiled before kissing my forehead. She is younger than me but has always acted like she is the older one. “Your life is going to change completely. Everything from now on will teach you and guide you to be the Queen you are destined to be.” She said, and I nodded. I looked at myself in the mirror. I took the portion my mother made for me. Unlike that little spell I chant in my head that only hides my heartbeat for a few seconds, this will do it all night. So, even if I do get scared, no one will hear my heart pounding out of my chest. We left my room, and I was reunited with extended family members. I stopped when I caught a scent, it was faint, but I definitely picked it up. 'That’s mate. Let’s find our mate.' Tara, my wolf started screaming in my head. Wait what? Mate? Why should we find him? I don’t believe in the mate bond. I agree that sometimes it works out, but sometimes it doesn’t. I want to meet someone in the old fashioned way and fall madly in love like my parents did. I have never been interested in the whole mate bond that werewolves push us into. So, I will not follow that saint, whoever he is, he will come to me instead if he has something to say. And even if I do go after the scent, what next? I won’t be able to talk to him, and how will I even begin a conversation? “Honey, are you ready?” My mother asked, and I nodded. I am not ready. I wish Rowan was older and he would be able to handle the responsibility. What if this Darius character is older than me and has more battle experience? What if he is someone I cannot defeat, no matter how hard I try? Does that mean that I only have 6 months of my life left? Or do I give up the title to him without a fight? I shouldn’t think so negatively and should just take this as it goes. We went outside, and the ceremony started, and my parents gave up their title. “The title of Alpha will be given to my oldest daughter Tamara Knight.” Dad said, and I gestured that I would join him on the stage. I took a deep breath, and my eyes landed on my mother’s blue eyes. She had this gentle smile on her face, which wasn’t like hers. As if she was telling me that it’s okay. I walked to the stage, and all eyes were on me. “If anyone would like to challenge Tamara Knight for the title, please step forth.” Dad said. That’s when that scent started getting stronger, and my wolf started going crazy. She kept begging me to go to our mate. “I do. I would like to challenge this half breed she-wolf.” A deep and resonant voice said. I watched as a guy with dirty blonde hair stood up, and his eyes landed on me. He had a smirk on his face, these green eyes were sizing me up and down. “I am Alpha Darius Dawn of the Moon Stone Pack. Before your treacherous family betrayed mine, the Dawn family were royals. I have a legitimate claim to this throne, and I refuse to be led by a weak woman.” He said the last part, looking at me. Those eyes? Why is he looking at me with those same eyes? He is looking at me with the same eyes as them. Why? I am scared.
