I bid Orpheus good night since I won’t be able to feel him or communicate with him once I go back inside. After that, I enter the house and head straight to my room, where I get ready to go to bed, even though I doubt I’ll be able to get any sleep tonight.
I get on the bed and lie on my back, staring up at the ceiling, with thoughts of her still running through my head and her scent still fresh in my mind. But suddenly, a flurry of crazy thoughts come crashing in like a ton of bricks, extinguishing that warm feeling that had taken over my mind and body.
What if she rejects me? What if she had realized the first time that I was her mate and had in fact fled? She’s a princess, and as far as she knows, I’m a nobody. What if that’s the reason she ran away?
