Chapter 5 - Hidden Danger

548 Words
With trembling hands, Laila let out the picture of Clara Kaspersqy’s corpse taken after she was murdered. Oh God, what ever happened to her? She was in the prime of her career when all of a sudden she was r***d and killed.     Yet, this is not the only shocking revelation associated with the case. After Clara Kaspersqy’s murder was another tragic incident that suppressed the continuous investigation of the case. Police Detective Alex Norton’s car was bumped by a truck which caused him to lose his sense of hearing and speaking. Yes, he became deaf and dumb after the accident. Automatically, he was replaced as the investigating officer in the case of Vice-President Morris Parker and his family’s murder.     Laila’s jaw dropped as she read the brief article written about Police Detective Norton. Why does it seem that Clara Kasperqy’s tragic death and Police Detective Norton’s accident are associated with the case? What kind of new case did her lawyer receive? Will this case endanger their lives, too?     She must call Mandy. Mandy has to know all of these. Laila picked the office phone only to realize that it is already late at night. Unknowingly, she has spent many hours recalling what happened to Clara Kaspersqy and reading about Police Detective Alex Norton’s story. She decided not to call Mandy. Maybe, it can wait. Yes, these reports can wait. Besides, she has to go home, too. She has been spending long hours in the office already.     Laila closed the case file and placed it in a safe. Then she began fixing her stuff. She then let out her cellphone and began dialling her husband’s number. He has to fetch her today. She cannot go home alone. After all that she’s been through this day, she suddenly felt fear that she never felt before.     “Hello, Jordan. Please fetch me at the office now. Something happened, and I am scared to go home alone.”     Laila felt sudden peace when the person on the other line said yes. Not long after, he came and fetched Laila. On their way home, Laila was so silent. She also seems lost in deep thinking that Jordan has to ask her his questions many times before he was able to get a good and sane answer. Jordan is worried about his wife, but he knows that when it comes to her researches about cases, he cannot elicit even a single information from her. His wife is so dedicated and loyal to maintaining the confidentiality of the information gathered through her job that she controls herself from sharing them even to him, her husband.     When they got home, Laila went straight to the attic. Jordan frowned. That’s her most hated place, the seldom visited place in the entire house. She hates seeing the things stored there as they remind her of her chaotic past. Why go there now?     Laila opened the attic. It stinks. She went straight to her father’s treasure box. This is the first time she will open this since her father died 20 years ago. When the box was opened, Laila got the shock of her life.
