Dinner with my family is always full of laughs but tonight’s dinner I believe have topped them all. Having three years of raw comedy can be a little overwhelming, especially when Cy is present.
“Tee Angle.” Jameson yelled when he saw me and jumped out of Cyir’s arms running and jumping into mines.
“That’s auntie Angel boy and no running, you might fall and bust your little butt, okay?” Cyir said to him in a firm tone.
“Oh, leave him alone, you big ole bully. He’s only two years old. I knew who he was talking to.” I said swatting Cyir’s arms away from Jameson playfully as he was trying to grab him out of my arms.
“Happy birdday tee Angle. I come to?” Jameson said in the cutest baby talk and I smiled and nodded at him.
“Yes, you can come too. Let’s get some dinner first, yeah?” I said and he smiled then wrapped his little arms around my neck and laid his little head on my shoulder.
“Happy 16th Birthday Sis. What you got in the bag?” Cyir asked me and I had forgot I had the gift bag from Hope on my wrist.
“I’m not sure, I haven’t opened it yet.” I said with a shy smile.
“Who is it from?” Amir asked and I smiled brightly at her.
“My best friend Hope.” I said smiling and she nodded.
“She’s a very interesting little girl… Her friend Hope. I was meaning to ask you. Do you know she isn’t a pure human? I couldn’t make out her scent but it’s pure and light.” Christopher said and I smiled.
“I figured she isn’t a pure human, but you just confirmed my suspicions. I can’t smell her yet. But I can sense her pureness and her light, which is why I feel the need to protect her from those mean girls.” I said smiling at Christopher and he nodded then smiled back.
“I didn’t know you had a friend at WRA. How long have you two been friends?” Christian asked and I smiled.
“Since the year after you left. She’s in the grade under us. We became friends when I saw some mean girls picking on her and I put them in their place. We have hung out pretty much everyday since then.” I said to Christian, and he nodded.
“Did Hope talk with her parents about coming over this evening for dinner?” Mom asked me and I dropped my head and nodded.
“Yes, but her stepfather said no. He doesn’t let her do much of anything and he is always so mean to her. I don’t think he really likes her. He’s always hitting her and telling her she is worthless.” I said sadly then looked up at my family and they all had sad expressions.
“Well, we will see what we can do to help her another time but right now, let’s not dampen the mood. This is supposed to be a celebration… correction, private family dinner of Morocco’s prince and princess.” Dad said smiling at me and I nodded.
“So, let’s see what your friend got you.” Imani said and I smiled opening the small gift bag and pulling out a small rectangle jewelry box.
When I opened it, I was surprised to see a hand beaded friendship charm bracelet. It was beautiful. There were three charms on it, and I was surprised to see one as a howling wolf. The second charm was an infinity symbol and the last was a lightening bolt. I couldn’t make out the lightning bolt, but I knew from the gift that Hope knew I was a werewolf, and she was telling me through her gift that we would be friends forever.
“Is that a lightning bolt?” Lydia asked with a confused expression on her face.
“Yeah, it is, why you ask sis?” Christopher asked her and she smiled a shy smile.
“When I was younger, my grandmama, would tell me the story about the Faerie (fairy) species. She said they have long been extinct or in hiding because their blood attracted all supernatural beings especially vampires. It was said that one drink from them would turn a vampire to a day-walker and day-walkers were dangerous because the hunted in the day. Faeries are known to be pure and light, always giving of themselves, and never engaging in conflict, their symbol was the lightning bolt.” Lydia explained and all our eyes went wide, except mom and dad’s.
“Yeah, I was told the same thing when I was a boy. Grandma Amelia’s mother, my grandmother Annette told me about Faeries and their supposed extinction. I have never met one though it is said if the are hiding they are hiding in plain sight.” Dad said with a smile.
“What other supernatural species exist out there?” Christian asked with curiosity written on his face.
“Vampires, Arch Angels, Were-Panthers, Were-Foxes, Were-Bears, Witches and Warlocks, Wizards, Demons, Shapeshifters, and although they are also known to be extinct Dragons” Dad said with a smile looking at Christian.
“Does all supernatural’s know about each other’s existence? Are any natural enemies of another? Can all supernatural’s smell or sense who’s a human and who isn’t?” Christopher asked and mom smiled.
“I knew one day these questions would come up. When I learned that I was a werewolf I asked these same questions and what I can tell you now is that our world and existence is bigger than you guys could ever imagine. Yes, all supernatural species know of each other existence and to be honest, humans know of our existence as well, but they are told it’s mythical and not real. Our natural enemies are both vampires and were-panthers. Vampires because they have a complete disregard to human lives and were-panthers because they create their kind through violating humans. Humans can’t become were-panthers, but they can procreate with them. Vampires are also natural enemies of witches, warlocks, and wizards. Contrary to human myths Demons and Angels are not enemies, they are siblings and, in some perspective, just misguided. Faeries and Dragons are selfless, pure, and avoids conflict as much as possible. Lastly, Foxes, Bears, and shapeshifters are generally neutral, and they stay that way because their existences rely on hiding in plain sight. They often live harmoniously among humans without detection because they hunt animals for food, not humans. All Supernatural’s can sense a pure human and majority can sense another supernatural being presence but not necessarily their species. Just like you two could sense Hope isn’t pure human but you couldn’t sense what supernatural species she is. That ability comes with training and lots of it.” Mom explained and we all sat quietly listening to her lesson in Supernatural’s.
“Mom is it possible Hope is trying to tell me that she knows I will become a wolf and that she would accept me because she is a faerie.” I asked shyly and my mom smiled.
“Yes, I believe that may be what your gift means but you really should ask her what the charms mean and let her tell you what they mean to her.” Mom said and I nodded.
“I should probably call her and tell her I love her gift.” I said with a smile and pulled out my phone to FaceTime her. She answered on the second ring.
“Hey best friend, I’m sorry I couldn’t make dinner tonight, but I promise we will celebrate your birthday as soon as we can before you leave for your family vacation.” Hope said as soon as she answered the call and I smiled.
“It’s no worries. I was just calling to thank you again for my gift. It’s a beautiful charm bracelet. Can you explain to me what the charms mean?” I asked her in a nonsuspicious way, and she smiled.
“I will tell you this… One charm represents you and one charm represents me. The infinity charmed is just my way of saying I hope we are in each other’s lives forever.” Hope said with a smile, and I smiled back.
“Hope Carrington, you get off that phone right now young lady. Your father will be home any minute and we don’t want to upset him.” A woman’s voice came through the phone and Hope shook her head then looked back at me.
“See you tomorrow?” Hope asked and I nodded before ending the call.
“Well, that answers that. I think it’s time to eat now.” Cyir said rubbing his belly and we all laughed at his antics, then walked into the dining room where the kitchen staff were waiting to serve us dinner.
“I want gapes. Can I have gapes glamma?” Little Caelan asked with a small pout.
“Yes, you can have some grapes but no muffin until after you eat your dinner, okay?” Mom said smiling at him.
“Otay, tank you glamma.” Little Caelan said and we all smiled at him.
“You’re welcome baby. MaryAnn, can you bring a small bowl of grapes for my grandson, please? No muffin though unless he prefers it over a piece of cake, okay?” Mom said to MaryAnn, Marla’s sister and the new kitchen staff supervisor.
“Yes, my Queen, coming right up.” MaryAnn said with a smile then turned and walked away toward the kitchen.
Christian POV
Today has been great and now as I’m sitting and enjoying dinner with my family to celebrate my birthday with my twin, I didn’t think it could get any better until I received a text message from the FBI High School Student Program coordinator. I applied a few weeks ago because I had to wait until I was sixteen to qualify for the program. When my phone vibrated on my side, I quickly grabbed it and looked at it, although it is after 8:00 pm here it is barely after 12:00 noon back home. The text message came from Johnny Cockwright, the student program coordinator and it read;
‘It is my sincere pleasure to welcome you to our 25th Annual High School Student Program. Your program training start date is May 29th and will run six months through November. Please check your email for additional details. I look forward to meeting you Christian Nahjae Parks, oh and by the way Happy 16th Birthday! Consider this the best birthday gift ever!!! ~Johnny Cockwright’
“YESSSS.” I shouted and almost fell out of my seat, I was happy.
“What’s going on, bro?” Christopher asked with a slight grin on his face.
“I just got this text.” I said and began to read it aloud so my entire family could hear it.
When I was done reading it both my brothers and sisters shouted congratulations while my mother and father sat there with huge bright smiles on their faces.
“I didn’t even know you had applied already.” Cyir said with a big smile.
“Yeah, I applied a few weeks ago but I truly wasn’t expecting a response for another two to three weeks.” I said with an ecstatic expression on my face.
“What about school?” Angel asked me and I smiled.
“For the six months of the program, I will be a remote study student. I will be given five study hours a day at Quantico, and I will have to check in with my teachers three times a week via video conference.” I said proudly and she nodded.
“What happens after the six months?” Imani asked me with a smile.
“At the end of the six months, we are divided into six testing groups. I will be in the intelligence analyst testing group. The person with the highest score is invited to complete the score card training which is code for undercover assignment. It can be anywhere in the world. The assignment starts at the beginning of the next semester and can go through graduation.” I explained and they all smiled at me.
“That is amazing news Little bro. I’m proud of you.” Christopher said with a bright smile.
“Yes son, this is what you set out to accomplish and I am so proud of you. I knew you will make us proud.” My mother said to me but looking at my father who had the biggest and brightest smile on his face and he nodded his head at me.
“Congratulations Son, we are very proud of you.” My father said and I smiled.
A few minutes later the kitchen staff came out with our birthday cakes, singing Happy Birthday to me and Angel. In that very moment, I was the happiest I had been in forever.
