A Steward had told Lencia that she need be in no hurry to get off the train at once, as it stayed at the same platform for nearly two hours.
But because Lencia had no wish to see the Comte again, she insisted that she and Alice leave almost as soon as the next train arrived.
She had deliberately not gone at dinnertime to the restaurant car that was attached to the train as she just knew that it would be impossible there to avoid the Comte.
She had instead asked a Steward to bring some food to their compartment and they also ate the remainder of the fruit and some homemade cake from her basket.
