The minute that passed by while looking at his bare face was the minute that I realized that I have never ever seen a god-like perfect handsome face like this man.
He’s about 6 foot 4 inches tall. His height really stood out because my physique seems to be too small for him. He has a tall nose partnered with slim, red lips. My eyes scanned up higher to his face. The thickness of his brows gave way just enough to emphasize the color of his eyes. They were like crystals with a mixture of blue and green hues. It’s like a deep-sea that is pulling deep into its core. So breathtaking.
His jaw is even perfectly chiseled! He was like a stone sculpted in a Renaissance period who came to life. I’m not exaggerating things, I tell you. It’s just how perfect he is!
He is wearing what a typical sporty person wears. He even looks like a model for sports clothing. He can even join a pageant, especially in the sportswear competition. Damn, I’m sure he would win.
I wasn’t even halfway my daydreaming when I noticed that he also felt the intense heat.
“It’s kind of extra hot today, isn’t it?” he asked while looking somewhere far. He’s also starting to sweat so he pulled the hem of his shirt and improvised it to fan his body.
Oh, come on! Even if he looks roasted because of the heat, he is still so handsome! Is there any rice there? I just want to make this yummy man as my viand! Oh my god!
“Yes. . . Hot,” I replied absentmindedly
He then turned at me. I can’t read the expression on his face but then my eyes suddenly widened when I realized what I just said.
“Ah, Yes! It’s really hot, especially today. Whooo!” I made up an excuse while fanning myself using my hand. He might misunderstand what I said, especially when he caught me looking at him.
“Yeah. Hmm, I’ll just see you around then,” he said then turned around. He took the path where I came from, the restaurant.
W-wait. What did he say? S-see you around? My stomach did a summersault because of his statement. Does it mean I could be casual to him?
I looked at him again as he entered the restaurant. I saw how people drifted their gaze at the man. Well, seems like it's their first time seeing this man too.
My phone suddenly rang, signaling that someone’s calling me. I took it out from my pocket and saw Thea’s name flashing on the screen. I immediately answered it.
“Tammy! Where are you!” Thea screamed on the other line. I closed my eyes automatically and removed the phone a little bit away from my ears.
“I’m just here near the restaurant. Why?” I got confused with her question. I could hear the rolling sound of the tires in her background. I think she’s driving the cart.
“Are you driving?” I asked to confirm my theory.
“Yeah. Just wait for me there. I’m on my way” I heard the tires screech just as she ended the call. Seems like she’s in a hurry. I bet she heard some news and she can’t stop herself from not sharing it with me. Oh, it’s really tiring if you have a very talkative friend. There’s never a dull time in my life because of her. Everything has a c****x. Oh geez.
I let out a deep breath and scanned the area looking for a comfortable seat. I saw a wooden bench nearby and decided to rest there and clear my mind while waiting for Thea to arrive. I’ll take this time to have a peace of mind before Thea interrupts it.
I still haven’t sat comfortably when I heard Thea’s voice booming aloud not far from where I sat.
“Giiiiiiiiirl” she screamed from afar while parking the golf cart beside a tree.
When did she become so energetic? A while ago she was fuming mad because I didn’t play and now this? Whew, I bet my driver, she found some hot tea to serve.
Well, me too.
I tried to suppress my smile forming on my face. It was too late because she was already checking up my expression.
“What’s with that look, huh?” she noticed because I was smiling like crazy.
“What look?” I tried to dismiss her question and she automatically furrowed her brows. She looks unconvinced by my acting but she let it pass and started telling me her true intentions.
“Whatever. By the way, I heard some buzz,” she took a step closer and acted like the news she’ll tell me is top-secret. I leaned my body forward so I could hear what she is about to spill.
It must be really important for her to come here and stop playing her beloved sport. She’s playing in an 18-hole course. It would take hours to finish it. That’s how I concluded that this must be very important. I hope I’ll get something real this time. Almost all of her rumors are just nonsense.
“My poop is pink,” she whispered in my ear.
I immediately rolled my eyes upon hearing what she just said. She let out a burst of uncontrollably loud laughter and that’s when I started giving her sharp looks. Geez! If she wasn’t my friend I would have brought her to the doctor already. Maybe the screws in her head had gone loose.
“Oh really,” I replied dryly. She’s still laughing like she has no plans to stop it anytime soon.
“Girl, why so serious?” she had the guts to ask me in between her laughs, huh.
“You know what? You’re so mature,” I told her with full sarcasm. She stopped laughing as I said those.
Hah! I caught her right on the spot! I gave her a smirk signifying my epic comeback. She doesn’t like it when I tease her how childish she could get.
“You know what, I want to slap you. Like 10 times. Can I try it?” I really hit the spot because I can hear the frustration in her voice. I just want to laugh every time she does this.
“Then what is it?” I urged her to tell me the real story.
“It’s a good thing my patience lasts up to Cavite, my friend. If not, you would’ve paid a lot for your burial expenses,” she said then took the bottle I was holding.
She drank it immediately. I didn’t stop her and just let her finish all of it.
“Anyway, I heard some rumors awhile ago. I don’t know if it’s true though but I have nothing to lose if I share this with you, right?” I just want to strangle her because of her logic in life.
“What is it about?” I asked her.
“The great Geoff Montagnier is here,” she continued talking. She sounded like he’s someone famous.
I tilt my head to the side. Geoff who? I don’t know anyone named Geoff. Is he famous? How come I don’t know him?
“Geoff who?” I curiously asked her again.
“Really? Did you just asked me who Geoff is?” she scoffed. She shook her head as if she can’t believe I’m still asking her this.
“Why? What is so interesting about him?” I asked hoping she would fill up my query.
“Listen, you bonehead. He’s just someone who currently holds four major awards in the golf championship. It was just last year when he won the Masters and that’s when he achieved the grand slam. Girl, you should know this!” she exclaimed. She’s criticizing me like it’s something I should have known already.
I just gaped as soon as I heard it. Damn! That guy must be so good! Can you believe it? To think that he achieved a grand slam means he’s at par with Tiger Woods.
It’s the dream for every aspiring golfer around the world. To bring home those championship cups all at once is like heaven! I can’t even imagine myself winning those gold cups, and gaining this world recognition? Just wow! How come I don’t have any idea about this? I should really meet this guy!
“And for the dessert? He is effin handsome!” she let out a high pitch tone beside me. Why does this sound familiar?
“When you said he’s here, you just don’t mean he’s here in Manila, right? Like he’s totally here within the boundaries of Manila Golf and Country Club?” I asked full of hope in my voice.
“In the flesh!” she confirmed me with excitement. To be able to meet this guy or just see his shadow would be a great privilege for me.
“Have you seen him?” I asked her. I can’t help but ta have an interest in this guy.
“That’s my problem. I haven’t seen him. Yet.” Her expression suddenly changed. Like she was dismayed by this fact.
“That’s the reason why I’m here,” she added and that’s when I realized what she meant by that.
“Let’s go and hunt him!” she didn’t surprise me. After knowing all this information from her, even I would stop playing and start looking for this hot guy. It’s like once in a lifetime experience.
I first thought of the stadium. There were many people crowded in there like they’re waiting for someone to go out of the door. When I looked at the stadium again, they were slowly dispersing from the building. What could it be?
While riding on the golf cart, we started scanning the entire field. We were scrutinizing every face we encounter. Not leaving any single person unchecked. We looked like morons with what we’re doing, actually. We pause every once in a while when we see someone unfamiliar. We can almost recognize every face here in the area.
“I just heard it while I was playing,” she opened up in the middle of driving. I automatically faced her gave her a scowl. I thought she read it in a trusted article? Or I just assumed it?
“And you haven’t confirmed it yet?” now I am starting to doubt all of these searchings. Geez. Why did I accompany her to search without even confirming if it came from a trusted source? Hays.
“No I didn’t, hehe” she just gave me a nervous laugh without removing her eyes on the road.
“But don’t you like it? We would be the first one to see Geoff if that happens,” she said to ease what I'm feeling.
I can’t deny that fact but I have a gut feeling that it’s Geoff who they were waiting outside the stadium. Should I just tell Thea about it?
I looked back to where we came from. We already rode far from our starting point. And that’s when I realized that I have also something to tell her. Our full attention went to Geoff that I forgot that I have some news for her too. Oh for sure, Thea would forget about Geoff when he sees the man I just met.
It’s just sad that I don’t know his name. I should have asked his name. there’s nothing wrong with it since he’s the one who said ‘see you around’. That means we’ll be seeing each other often.
I really should ask his name. it would be a wonderful blessing if I’ll have a handsome friend like him! Him being a gentleman is like a cherry on top of my cake. My goodness!
We passed by every building that we can see. We entered every corner but we can’t find anyone who matches Thea’s description.
“All I know is he’s tall and handsome,” she added aside from her descriptions awhile ago.
“Nothing more? Just tall and handsome? That’s all of it?” I am starting to get irritated with Thea. Of course, we’ll have a hard time looking for him if that’s the only description we have. We’re now back on the road and she’s still the one driving.
“Just search it on the internet, Tammy. You have your phone right there with you, right?” she suggested. I slapped my forehead. Of course! How can I forget about it? Urgh, just how stupid can I be?
I was still reaching for my phone in my pocket when Thea started tapping my shoulders using her free hand.
“Girl! Maybe that’s where what we’re looking for!” she said while pointing at the golf course where people were crowding.
“Maybe? Okay, let’s head there,” I was still talking when she started to accelerate the cart.
Without putting back the phone into my pocket, I started typing Geoff’s name. I asked Thea for his full name and the right spelling.
“It’s G. . . E. . .O. . . double F, then space, M. . . O. . . N. . . oh s**t!” we both cussed when the cart suddenly stopped.
“Oh come on, Tei! Please drive safely! I still want to have a family, you know!” I scolded her as I reached for my phone because it fell below. It was quite far from my reach.
“Tammy! I think you are Lord’s favorite!” she was almost whispering at me. She really crouched just to tell that to me. I can sense mixed emotions of excitement and happiness in her voice.
“Huh?” then I raised one of my brows in question. I crouched a little bit more, still reaching for my phone.
“Girl! Geoff is here!” she’s now slapping my shoulders hard.
“I know. I know! You already said that!” I straightened my back and that’s what Thea did too.
My eyes widened with astonishment with what I saw. He’s just a few meters away in front of our cart. He started walking fast towards our direction. It only took him a few steps to reach my side.
“I’m sorry! Are you both hurt?” he ashed full of concern before our eyes meet.
“It’s you!” he said while pointing at me.
