Chapter 3

|Tamara|     “Yes, it’s her,” Thea immediately replied at the guy. At first, she got confused with what the guy said but she just shrugged it off like it was nothing.   “…your wife,” she whispered in continuation. Looks like he didn’t hear what she said because I’m the only one who gave Thea a weird look. I immediately squinted my eyes at her. Geez! This girl is so fast when it comes to talking nonsense.    “I’m sorry for what I did,” he said from beside me. What did he do that he keeps on saying sorry? Was he at fault or something?   “No! No! It’s okay. We’re totally fine. Really,” Thea waved her hand as if it will take all the misunderstanding away. Thea cleared her throat.   Did I miss something?   “OMG! If I’m not mistaken, you’re Geoff Montagnier, right? ‘The’ Geoff Montagnier? I’m a fan. A big fan!” Thea stretched out her hand towards the guy. Her lips are about to rip off as a result of extreme happiness because of her excitement with the guy.   My brows furrowed in an instant. Did she just assume the guy as Geoff Montagnier? I can’t believe her! Yes, the guy correlates with her description, tall and handsome. But to be Geoff?   I looked intently at the guy.   Hmm.   No, he can’t be. If he really is Geoff, then why is he alone? Shouldn’t he be walking around with the VIPs receiving some special treatment? Even a while ago, he was alone.   My jaw dropped in an instant when he shook Thea’s hand. I could hear Thea screaming inside her head. Wait, don’t tell me he’s actually—   “Yes, you’re right. I’m ‘the’ Geoff Montagnier,” he confirmed her. I can hear him chuckle as he emphasized the way Thea said his name. I could also sense that he got a little bit uncomfortable with it.   “Wait. You’re actually ‘THE’ Geoff Montagnier?” I exclaimed at the guy. There was a tinge of disbelief in my tone. Is it true? Is this for real?   “Uh-huh. What’s with the ‘the’ word, anyway? You could just drop it, you know,” he insisted with a discomfort taste on his face.   “Okay. It’s Geoff then,” Thea gave him a sweet smile. She immediately transformed into an angel as she gave a decent expression and sat properly. If I were to rate her acting as a conservative girl, I’ll give her a perfect score! She’s just so good at this!   “I’m Thea, Thea Sprouse. And this is my best friend, Tamara Harolds,” I almost choked myself when I saw that she was still holding Geoff’s hand. Good thing Geoff didn’t give it much thought.   “By the way—,“ he started but wasn’t able to finish because someone screamed from afar. All of us looked at the direction where it came from. It was one of the girls who I heard talking with her friend this morning.    “Geoff! Aaaaah!” she let out a high pitch as she waved her flagstick. She jumped with joy as if she’s too eager to come close with Geoff.   “Girls! He’s here! Run faster!” the girl shouted while pointing in our direction. Her friends, who have their back on us, immediately turned and faced us, specifically at Geoff’s. Looks like he has a huge sorority fanbase, huh?   “Aaaaah!” the girls screamed once again.   My eyes grew in circles when they started screaming and running towards our direction. What the f**k? They look like slugs that were sprinkled with salt. They were so full of energy!   “-about that, can you give me a ride?” Geof asked in a hurry as he looked at the girls coming closer.   Thea immediately picked up what he meant and nodded her head to allow him to ride with us. Actually, he doesn’t need any of our approval. It would even be our privilege. With his looks, we would even beg him just to ride with us.      He expressed his gratitude and jumped at the backseat without hesitation. Thea revved the cart and without a second wasted, we were already on the road.  It’s not that fast but it’s enough to lose the girls who were after us. For Pete's sake! They were like zombies that want to devour Geoff completely.   I don’t clearly understand why he’s running away from them but I just laughed because of the situation we were in. Especially when we turned our heads and saw them with their dismayed faces.   Thea maneuvered the cart with a few turns and suddenly the girls disappeared from our sight. The three of us sighed with relief.   Thank goodness we lost them or shall I say we exhausted them and made them lose hope from following us. I got scared for a while because I thought they wouldn’t stop following.   “Sorry for causing you trouble,” Geoff apologized shyly while caressing his nape. He got out of the cart first. We are now at the lake and decided to stop here for a while.   “Why were they following you? Are they your fans?” Thea asked the obvious. Isn’t it obvious with how they reacted when they saw Geoff? I think if you’ll just let them, they would even print his face on a tarpaulin.   “I don’t know. Hmmm. Maybe?” Geoff answered back.   That’s how we knew that Geoff blocked our cart, the reason why Thea immediately stepped on the brake.   Geoff said he got irritated with the girls because they were acting like slugs who kept on clinging unto him, that’s why he ran away from them.   I pouted my lips. I’ll admit, at first I thought he was a womanizer. After knowing his opinion about those kinds of girls, I thought maybe he’s not a playboy after all. Maybe he’s the one-woman kind of guy.   Applause to this guy if that’s the case then. If it were some other guy who was in his position, I bet he’d be willing to do anything just to entertain the girls. He won’t even run away from them.   But all of these are just hunches. We don’t know yet. He might turn out to be a playboy after all and he’s just using this as a trick.   “By the way, thanks for the help. You both saved me,” he let out a laugh before his eyes caught mine. I suddenly felt nervous. It didn’t last as somebody put his arms around his shoulder. It was the guy who has a buzz cut hair who was with him a while ago.   “Bro! Finally, you were just here. I thought the girls succeeded in devouring you,” he said jokingly and immediately turned his attention to us, Thea and me. His brows shot up.   “Oh. How come there are two girls with you? Did you decided to devour them?” he joked again and clung tighter at Geoff.   “Oh shut up, Neil,” Geoff said.   “Hello, ladies. I’m Neil. Just Neil. Geoff’s cousin,” he stretched out his hand like a gentleman. We gladly accepted it. We also introduced ourselves to Neil after that. His looks and physique aren’t that far from Geoff’s.   Everything went smoothly between Thea and Neil when they started talking about golf. Neil initiated it and Thea got immersed in their conversation too. They were talking about their experiences and their first award when they were starting to play golf. I can’t even believe Neil was at par with my friend’s talkativeness. They got easily along with each other.      Geoff moved away a little bit as he received a phone call.   “No. I don’t have plans for that right now. My hands are full…” that’s the last thing I heard before he was finally away from us. I busied myself while listening to Thea and Neil.   It took him 10 minutes to finish the call and came back to us. His hands were already both on his waist as he pursed his lips while walking towards us. Everything went slow-mo. Damn, his presence is surely not for the faint-hearted, especially when he looks this serious. Oh boy.   His serious face shifted into irritation. Is there a problem? In fairness, he looked more handsome when he does that.   “Uhm, sorry about that. My uncle is sometimes bothersome,” Geoff explained.   “N-no, it’s okay. It must be really important,” I tried to sound casual and not to c***k.   Neil and Thea joined the conversation that’s why it took long before they decided to part ways and go back to the course. His uncle kept calling him too. Maybe he got worried about his nephews.   Neil bade goodbye first. Geoff followed too. I thought they will leave right away but Geoff turned at us once again. His eyes flew to mine. My heart skipped a beat because of that.   “Uhm, it’s nice seeing you again,” he said and turned his back and walked away from us.   I can feel my cheeks burning hot and my heart beating fast. s**t, why did he have to say that? I might faint at this rate!   I was planning to tell Thea about how I first met him but given the situation awhile ago, I wasn’t able to. I felt shy with Geoff because I wasn’t able to recognize him when we first met.   “What?!” Thea hysterically exclaimed. She’s been over-reacting ever since. I just rolled my eyes at her.   We’re already on our way home riding her car so that we can talk privately. I decided not to call my driver so I could spend time with my best friend more. Plus, I have some explaining to do.   Thea wondered why Geoff said that before he left. Even I was surprised even if I know the whole story. I told her everything about how Geoff and I first met outside the restaurant. I can’t help but feel butterflies on my stomach while telling her the story. It was like sharing my love story.   Thea was giggling the whole time I was telling her our story. She even let out a high pitch when I told her he opened the bottle for me.   “Oh my! He’s like a hero that has saved your day!”   “You fool! It’s just a cap! Stop over-reacting,” I scolded her.   “Whatever! I’m just supporting you! Now you’re attacking me? You should be thankful he has a cousin! Neil is mine alone! He has such fresh eyes!” At this rate, I don’t even know what to believe from her. I just hope Neil is not a playboy. If not, I don’t know what I’m capable to do.    “Okay. Geoff is mine then. There’s no turning back now,” I went along just to stop her from talking anymore. That’s where I went wrong. She even talked more!   “That’s right, Tammy! That’s my tiger, rawr!”   She kept on teasing me but I just shrugged it off.   I was looking outside through the window of the car when Geoff’s face staring at me appeared on my mind.   Shit!   I suddenly blamed Thea for teasing me to him. Now, Geoff’s face is plastered on my mind.   We passed by a famous steak house and ate there before we finally head home. It was just around Makati that’s why we were able to go home early.   I got out of Thea’s car as she dropped me outside our gate. I said my thanks and immediately closed the gate. It took me quite a number of steps before our mansion came into view.   “Ma’am Tammy, why didn’t you call me?” Kuya Albert, our driver, panicky asked me as he walked in my direction. He’s my personal driver and he’s already in his 40s. He started working as our driver way back I was still a little girl. He’s like an uncle to me now.   “Don’t worry Kuya Albert. I was with Thea that’s why I didn’t bother calling you,” I reasoned out to ease his worry. I continued walking and so did he.   “But Ma’am, it’s my duty. Your mom might scold me for this.”   “It’s really okay Kuya Albert. Don’t worry. I’ll explain everything to Mommy when she asks. Besides, you’re already like a family to us. She can’t do that, okay?” I gave Kuya Albert an assurance. If I’ll think about it, it’s the first time Kuya Albert didn’t fetch me without me informing him. Take note. Without informing him. I’m not the rebel type.    I can’t blame my parents if they are strict when it comes to my whereabouts. I’m their only child which leads me to be the only heiress to our business.   In fact, my parents spoiled me with everything that I want. They’re both pretty much willing to answer all my whims and caprices in life. I’m just grateful that I’m not that type of child to them.   Yes, I was born in a very rich family. I can’t deny that. The rich type wherein in just a flick of my hand, I can buy everything and anything that I want. It’s like the dream that everyone desires.   Everyone surrounding us keeps on saying that we have a very good life. That we have a very comfortable life and we can get everything that we want. That even if we spend all our wealth it will not deplete. But little do they know that we are just like other families and we have problems too. It’s just too tiring to hear them stereotyping rich people. Hmmps.   “Ate Lena, where’s Mommy?” I asked Ate Lena when I entered the wet kitchen. She was cooking something, probably for lunch. Just from the smell of it, I know it will be delicious.   “Oh, you’re home, Tammy. Your Mom is upstairs, in the study room,” she answered as she wiped her hands on her apron.   “Thank you. By the way, I have already eaten my lunch,” I informed her so she’d cook just enough for Mom and them. Daddy isn’t around because he’s out of the country.   I went straight to the grand staircase to head upstairs. I was about to open the study’s door when I heard Mom talking to someone. I pressed my ears at the door. The voice sounded familiar so without hesitation, I opened the door.   My eyes widened upon seeing a familiar face in front of Mom. Without wasting any second, I immediately ran and wrapped my arms around him. It has been three long years since I last had this feeling. This warmth. This smell. I just really miss him.    My tears were about to fall as I looked at his face. Oh, this old man of mine.
