“How dare he,” Mama bellowed, standing up. “I shall rip that little insolent brat’s head from his body.”
“Peace, Malaka,” Ma soothed, standing up and placing a hand on Mama’s arm.
I could see the effect immediately, as Mama calmed down slightly.
“It’s not his fault, Mama,” I said, weakly.
“The hell it’s not,” she growled.
“Mama, please. I do not wish to cause any strife. Promise me you won’t say anything to him.”
She paced in front of me angrily, and stopped in front of me.
“How can you ask me to promise this?”
“Malaka, we must think with cool heads. Truly, if Sakina is not Lucien’s mate, the blame doesn’t lie with the boy, it is the will of goddess. Are you going to pick a fight with the High Goddess?” she asked, teasingly.
Mama scowled but a smile played on her lips
