Ch.5 Elizabeth
I woke up from the nap not feeling any better. The sadness had been replaced by anger as I thought back on the day that I had left. Th headache was getting better though, and I made my way to the restroom to freshen up a bit and get myself together. It was early evening and was sure Sara would be making her way back up here soon.
Sure enough there was a knock at the door followed by Sarah coming into the room.
“Elle?” She called out. “In here.” She made her way over to me.
“You look awful.” She told me with a smile.
“Thanks.” I answered looking back at my reflection. She was right I looked terrible I had bags under my eyes, my hair was a mess, and not to mention the hideous scar that was out on display in this shirt. It was medium sized scar that ran along my collar bone.
“What happened?” She asked as she notice me staring at the mark in the mirror.
“They tried to kill me and missed.” I said with a smirk trying to make light of the situation.
“That’s awful, mom said it was your fiancé?” Sarah asked.
“Yeah it was.” I left the bathroom and she followed me out and the two of us sat on the plush bed.
“How have you been? You know besides the violent takeover of your kingdom.” She asked. She had always been straight forward and to the point never one to mince words. She was the sister I had always wanted she was smart, kind, and always willing to talk. She looked just like her mom with long blonde hair and crystal blue eyes like a clear lake.
“Good, everything was really good before all this. I missed all of you of course.” I told her simply. “What about you guys?” I asked her taking her hand in mine.
“We are all good…but you know that. I know mother has sent you letters but you never write back.” She said a little sadness in her tone.
“What? That is not true! I send letters whenever I can.” I told her curious as to why she would think that.
“Anyway I know that is not really what you want to know though.” She said changing the subject abruptly.
“What do you mean”
“Tristan is good too you know.” Sarah said with a smirk.
“Your brother is not going to be happy to see me I know him.” I told her.
“You’re right he has been very angry with you, but Elizabeth do you blame him. You left without saying goodbye. We were all upset, but he… he was broken up over it.” Sarah had a slight accusing tone in her voice which ate away at me.
“I am so truly sorry about the way that I left it was never my intention. I got the news and had to leave that day… I am scared to see him you know.” I said looking down at her hand. It was true I felt ashamed of not having been able to talk to him to explain why I was leaving. I had tried to send word of why I left but the letters and messages had gone unanswered.
“Oh stop he will be angry and first but he will get over it you know him.” Sarah said giving my hand a squeeze.
“I hope so.” I said not believing any of it.
“Get ready we are having a small dinner for you and your ladies. Mother wants to get to know them.” She said hopping off the bed. “See you downstairs.” And with that she was gone.
I went to the closet and looked for something to wear. I choose a simple tea length dress that was soft and comfortable it was modest enough that it would also cover up the healing scar as well. I finished getting ready and made my way down to the main hall where I saw Thomas.
“Hey.” I said walking up to him. He was dressed in a dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up and dark jeans. He was a man now no longer the boy that use to get into trouble with me. He had gotten bigger as well and was all muscles now just like Justin.
“Hey you, how are you feeling?” He asked me.
“I’m good thanks. So where is everyone?”
“Who knows probably still making their way down.” He looked at his watch. “Hey I have a questions for you.”
“Is it about Kenna?” I asked with a smirk.
“What? How did you know?” He asked dumbfounded.
“Because I know you, and you were practically drooling all over her you hound.” I said teasing him.
“Hey what can I say it’s the wolf in me…but really though I think…I think she might be my mate. Which is crazy cause she’s human.” He said the last part softly.
“WHAT?!” I asked incredulously. Wolves did not mate with humans very often, and the royal pack especially did not mate with humans or half bloods. The bonds were so rare in the royal pack there had not been a pairing in 400 years. Thomas was the beta of the pack and was not of royal blood he was however from a long line of Dukes.
“Shh keep it down! I am not sure yet. You know how it is with your kind the link is always weaker at first. Not like it would be with a she-wolf. She probably doesn’t even feel anything. I can barely feel it. All I know is that my wolf wants to be around her. She probably saved all of you, I was drawn to her earlier in the forest.” He explained as he moved me to the side.
“Thomas, relax she’s a wolf.” I said with a smile I knew that he was freaking out and took it as a chance to mess with him.
“What?!” He said lighting up. “Ok good because I was lying before I knew she was my mate I was scared of how you’d take it though!” He said happily.
“What? You know I don’t care.” I said with a smile.
“Ok, ok so now what do I do? Do I tell her? Or should I try talking to her first?” He asked in a rush nerves taking over. I had never seen him this flustered, he was always the level headed and rational one.
“You talk to her and get to know her. She’ll feel the connection too.” I told him with a smile. Just then Justin joined us.
“What are you two scheming, and can I be involved?” He said placing his long arms around us.
“No, no scheming just planning.” I told him
“Right planning.” He said with a mock wink.
“I think I may have found my mate.” Thomas told him. I expected a loud reaction from Justin just like mine had been but he smirked.
“Yeah Kenna.” He stated matter of factly.
“What? You know too? How?” Thomas asked confused.
“Dude she was staring at you the whole time. Practically drooling over you.” He said pulling out some peanuts and throwing them in his mouth then offering my some. I waved my hand declining and laughed. Of course, Thomas hadn’t notice Kenna he was freaking out because he thought she was a human. There really was no way to tell a human from a wolf as we all looked the same it wasn’t until they shifted that they would be different. As for scent, wolves could tell what pack someone was from or if they were rogue, but a human would just smell like a different pack.
Shortly the others started to join, and we made our way to the dinning room. Everyone was getting to know each other or catching up. I had discreetly sat Thomas and Kenna together and they were completely consumed in their conversation. I stole glances their way happy at how smitten they seemed already.
“When is Tristan getting back?” Sarah asked between mouthfuls, pulling my attention back from my friends.
“In a couple of days, says he has great news, but won’t tell me what it is.” Mary told her as she took a sip of her wine.
I was instantly on edge at the mention of Tristan and anxiety over seeing him set in. I knew he would be upset at me and I knew that he would be furious at the threat of an attack by another Alpha. His pack had ruled for centuries and it had been a hundred years since someone dared to attack them.
There was no more mention of Tristan after that and the dinner went on uneventfully. The next couple days went by quietly. I started training once more with Thomas and Justin to keep my skills sharp, and they had the girls join as well.
Aylee was human and had a little more trouble keeping up with the group, but Thomas and Justin made sure she was integrated as well. My ladies and my best friends were all becoming fast friends and it made me happy to see it.
I found myself back in my room, later that night. The realization that Tristan would be coming home tomorrow settled over me. I had found out that he had been engaged a couple of times over the years but had ended up calling off the whole thing when his brides ended up finding their mates within the back. Sarah had informed me that he was happy to not have to marry someone that wasn’t his mate. I was happy to hear that he still was not married. Though it really made no difference in the grand scheme of it all. I was on edge for the rest night and couldn’t sleep until past midnight. I woke up early in the morning and prepared for the meeting I was both looking forward to and dreaded.
