Ch.4 Elizabeth
I was finally alone. It had been months since I had been really alone in a room for more than a moment. Sarah had ushered me to the west wing of the castle and let me get settled. It felt strange as this was the royal wing of the house where the King and Queen had their quarters and guests. My room had been in the South wing when I lived here as that is where all the young royals and noble children lived. Queen Mary had been moved to the North Wing now from what Sarah had told me as she had left this wing to Tristan.
The room was very open with the bright light coming in through the large windows. I had an amazing view of the ocean from here and large balcony to be able to go out to.
I was unpacking the little items that I had been able to bring with me and was grateful when I saw that Queen Mary had already had clothes ordered for me and placed in the drawers and closet.
As I was arranging my belongings an overwhelming sadness came over me. I knew it all too well it would hit me like a wave out of nowhere and I had no idea where it came from or what triggered it. I was happy to be here and happy to see the people I cared about so deeply, yet the sadness was there. I couldn’t explain it, it was a sadness that came over me and invaded my whole mood, yet it felt strange as if it didn’t belong to me. Like I was looking into someone else’s emotions and taking part in their sadness.
My headache came back as well, no doubt a result of the energy I had spent earlier. I decided to take a quick nap to alleviate the emotions and the headache. I put on some of the pjs that had been provided for me and laid down drifting into sleep.

“You have to go Elizabeth, its for the best.” I looked at the slender man in front of me. Charles. The king’s advisor had hated me since the moment I had arrived to them. I had no idea what I had done to get this treatment from him. Maybe it was because I was half human or maybe he was just bitter.
It was a week since the King had passed and I was surprised to find Charles in my room. He had been scurrying around trying to get everything ready for Tristan’s coronation, which would be in a few months when he turned 18.
“Tristan doesn’t want me to go and neither does the Queen.” I told him simply poising myself.
“The Queen is blinded by her love for you, and Tristan is a child who doesn’t know what is best for him yet. I am simply looking out for the best interest of my kingdom and yours, believe it or not.” He stated frustration in his voice.
“I am not leaving until they want me to.” I said ending the conversation or so I thought.
“Yes, you are. Tristan needs to marry his mate and that will be a she-wolf that will become his Luna and lead this pack as well as all those who look to the us. You are simply making this harder for him don’t you understand? You are no good for him. His father’s death means he must marry soon to help strength his position. His position is threatened without a Luna and heirs. If you stay you would be putting him in a weak state and endangering him, because he will be focused on you and not on finding his mate.” Charles urged moving towards me, I took a step back instantly as well.
I didn’t understand where this was coming from, I knew he didn’t like me but he was actually trying to get rid of me this time. No one knew that Tristan and I were seeing each other, and I knew he probably only suspected it. I was not about to confirm this for him.
“You know you two can’t be together you would destroy his pack. We may have an alliance with your kingdom but make no mistake you’re a half blood and the future King Alpha is to marry a she wolf to be Queen Luna.”
“King Rupert had no issue with where I come from and you know that.” I spat out at him becoming angry at his insult.
“If the king had no issue with you then why not engage his son to you? He knew his son needed to find his mate, and a half-blood like you can’t get in the way of that.” Charles said with a wicked smile.
“I am not leaving.” I told him with finality. His words had affected me though. He was right Tristan needed to be as strong as possible. He was young and not yet eighteen, perfect for another alpha to invade and try to challenge him.
“Yes, you are.” He retorted. “We just received news that your people are about to go into civil war, and you are being called back to your homeland. You will leave without a word to Tristan for he will try to stop you. Do you see now? You have a responsibility to your people and if you care about Tristan at all you will not stop to see him.” Charles said a smug look on his face. “You will leave at dawn; the Queen has already been sent word and you will be gone by the time she returns from her travels.” The look of satisfaction on his face killed me.
“You’re lying.” I told him unable to come with anything better than that. He was right I did have a responsibility to my people. It was the reason I was here in the first place. To learn to how to become a good ruler for the people in my homeland.
Anger filled me as he was making me choose between the people I cared about and those I had been placed in charge of. I was facing away from him trying collect myself.
“Queen Elizabeth.” One of the guards announced himself. I was never addressed by my formal title. I turned and saw him holding out a document for me. I took it from him and saw the royal seal of my homeland.
“Go on open it and see that I am not lying.” He told her with a smirk as the guard left.
I broke the seal and quickly read through the letter. My heart sank at the words in front of me. He was right my country was going into war and they needed me to arrive as soon as possible to ease the people and stop a war from starting.
“I speak the truth you see it there yourself. Now know that I am telling you the truth now. If you tell Tristan he will stop you from leaving, sinking your country into a bloody war that could crush your entire kingdom. Are you willing to risk your kingdom and his life? Others will challenge his authority if he stays with you and sends our men to help your country. You can keep him safe and stop the war among your people.” His words were laced in triumph. “There is a carriage ready to take you away.”
The weight of his words finally sunk in. He was right my duty was to my people and I couldn’t allow them to go to civil war they needed their ruler back with them. As for Tristan his words made me angry but he was right. Others would try to challenge his position if he did not find a Luna soon.
“Fine. I will leave.” I told him.
After our conversation Charles had left to get things prepared for my departure taking full advantage of the fact that Tristan would not be home until later as he had gone out with his friends. I wasn’t planning on leaving without seeing him though. Charles has posted his guards at me door knowing that I would try and see Tristan. But I was not planning on leaving through the door. I made my way to the window where I had climbed out of many times over the years and raced to the other side where a set of stairs would lead me to back out up to Tristan’s floor. He had gotten back about 30 mins before and I knew he would be in his room.
I avoided more guards no doubt placed by Charles in case I tried exactly this. I made into his room undetected by anyone.
When I searched his room it was empty, just as I was about to leave someone came in. It was an older staff member who attended the rooms.
“My lady.” She curtsied.
“Where is Tristan?” I asked.
“Not sure my lady as soon as he came in Sir Charles ushered him back out. He is not in castle.” She informed me.
“What about Justin and Thomas?” I asked her getting frantic. I wouldn’t get a chance to talk to Tristan to any of them to explain.
“They left with him my lady.” She said. The doors burst open and I turned around hoping to see Tristan but instead Charles stood in front of me.
“Elizabeth. It’s time to go.” Charles said with a few men standing behind. He knew me all too well and knew that I would not go without a fight. But it was useless no one was home he had planned this all out perfectly anyone who cared or could get a message to Tristan was gone. My shoulders sunk in defeat.
“Let’s go.” He said stepping aside for me.
