Ch.7 Tristan

After leaving Elizabeth I had been a mess and had decided to finally let my wolf. I had made my way to the forest leaving some clothes tucked away for when I was finished. It felt freeing to let my wolf take over giving me a slight rest from it all. The air was cool around me making it easier to focus on the elements around me. I was happy to be back at home and in the place I knew so well. We ran until we couldn’t anymore. Out of breath I shifted back and made my way to my clothes. I was ready to head back home but my wolf was anxious and was pulling back in. I gave in to him tired of having to keep my self-control, and after dressing headed in the woods once again. I walked aimlessly and felt my wolf ready to be released once more. Just as I was about to shift again a sweet intoxicating scent came through with the breeze. I knew the scent all too well, sweet and fresh, just like a cool summer night. I saw her in the clearing. So, this is where you wanted to go. I asked him as his mood perked up at the sight of her. I wasn’t surprised that he wanted to see her, Elizabeth had grown up with me and we had always been close; but I wasn’t ready to talk to her just yet. I started to back away slowly as to not alert her, but she spun around as a branch snapped underneath my foot. Great. I could see her looking around panicked. She probably was always on high alert these days now that she had a target on her back. I didn’t want to worry her anymore, so I stepped forward. “It’s me. Sorry…I didn’t mean to scare you. Just came to check out who was out here since not many people come all this way especially alone at night.” I said. I was surprised at my tone, almost chastising her for coming out here without any protection. Where was this coming from? Leave it to her to elicit a reaction from me. “Oh… I was just trying to get some air, sorry for alerting you.” She said flustered. I was surprised by her reaction; she would have normally dismissed me in that charming way of her. She had always been confident and ready to face things head on. Silence fell between us. It was clear that she was letting me take the lead here. It allowed me a moment to take her in fully. Earlier I had been trying to keep my composure and hadn’t taken in all the details of her. But now the ocean breeze mingled with her scent making it a little easier to breath around her. She was really a woman now no longer that skinny kid that use to run around with us. Her hair was grown out now and the soft curls were let loose moving slightly in the breeze. The moon was out tonight casting its light on her. Her skin was fair making her hair look as dark as a raven’s. She was even more beautiful than I remembered. She was wrapped up in a shawl and was looking back at me with her dark eye. She shifted slightly, it pulled me out of my thoughts. “You shouldn’t be out here alone.” I said gruffly. It was the only thing I could think of to say to her. I could see anger flash in her face a look I remember all too well. “I am fine thank you.” She said simply. I could tell that she was holding back her temper. She wasn’t one to be pushed around. She may have come here to learn from my mother but she was a queen through and through, she always had been. I gave her a smirk. “Suit yourself, your majesty” I said tipping my head at her and turning and leaving. She had left me, and I wasn’t going to let her know how that had affected me. I would not stoop to the level of begging for her attention, as much as it upset my wolf when we turned to leave. “That’s it?” She demanded from where she was. “What?” I asked innocently turning back to face her. Irritation was all over her face. Finally, there was the girl I knew. I was ready for her to go off on me for putting this distance between us, but her shoulders relaxed and her chin came up. “Nothing, have a good night your majesty.” She tipped her head at me as well and walked past me. I had to resist the urge to stop her as she walked away. It was probably best that she go. I spent the next couple days avoiding Elizabeth and preparing for the arrival of my mate. Mother had gotten a room prepared near mine to allow her sometime to transition into my life. The strategizing and training of my men had been taking up much of my time. Word had finally spread that Elizabeth’s kingdom was under the control of Blackburn and a few packs had come to her aid right away. She was well liked and a good ruler, I had not doubt more would come once they had heard of the news. Not to mentions she still had support in her kingdom as well, and people on the inside helping her get information. Justin had informed me that she was also busy getting support for her country. We had barely seen each other since that night out in the woods. We kept things formal when we did cross paths, but it seemed that she was also avoiding me. I was out on the training field when I saw Elizabeth in the distance with Thomas. I would often see her talking to Thomas and Justin, which always sparked an anger in me I couldn’t understand. Especially since Thomas had found his mate in one of her ladies, Kenna. Kenna would be a great addition to the pack she was a skilled fighter and seemed smart, but for now she was still one of Elizabeth’s ladies. I had gotten to know her ladies and they all seemed very apt, Elizabeth had chosen them well. “Hey earth to Tristan” Justin said waving his hand in front of me. “Aren’t you supposed to be getting ready. Its almost 5, the Baroness should be here in a few hours.” Justin said pulling me back to reality. My mate. My mood instantly lighten, how could I forget she would finally be here with us. “Right. Finish off here with the men and then have everyone get ready for the dinner mother has prepared.” I said taking off towards the castle. As I made my way over, I saw Thomas leaving Elizabeth and coming towards me as she headed inside. I couldn’t help but look as she walked back in. “We have a problem.” Thomas said as he reached. “Blackburn has ordered an attack on the North end of the boarder. Elizabeth got news from back home, she stills has people loyal to her. They plan on testing our defenses.” “When?” I growled. “They don’t know, but soon, our men are ready. I just thought you should know. Elizabeth has been working hard to get inside information for us so that we can be as prepared as possible. I just wish we could mount our own attack.” Thomas said upset. “We can’t there are too many humans they would be hurt in the middle of all this fighting, but if they are foolish enough to attack we may have enough to mount our own attack. Keep me posted on any other updates.” “You got it, I am going to help Justin finish up.” He said taking off towards the field. I made my way inside to get ready. I rushed around the corner nearly knocking someone down. I felt sparks as soon as I made contact making me pull away as soon as we were both steady on our feet. “Elizabeth.” I said surprised to see her. “Sorry your majesty I should have been more careful.” She stated not looking at me and straightening her dress. “No it was my fault. I was rushing.” I said taking the sight of her in. She was pretty as ever prim and proper. “Well I suppose that is to be expected the future Luna is arriving today.” She said with a smile…and was that jealousy in her tone. No. “I will get out of your way then.” She said turning on her heels and walking away not letting me say more.  I glanced down at my watch and ran to my room. It was almost time to receive my mate.
