Ch.11 Elizabeth
The next couple weeks went on uneventfully. The castle prepared for one of their biggest parties of the year. Alphas from far and wide had been invited as well as important lords and ladies, and they started arriving at the castle filling it up. Everyone was excited for the party especially all those who had yet to find their mates.
I had worked hard to avoid Tristan and his mate, but people talked. They were very in love and couldn’t get enough of each other was all people could say. It killed me a little each time but I was happy that he had found someone that made him happy. I watched as everyone buzzed around preparing the area for the big event.
“Did you get an invite, or will you be trying to sneak in Lizzy bee?” Justin said coming over.
“Very funny I still have a scar from when we tried to sneak into the Harvest Ceremony.” I said nudging him.
“Oh I remember that, King Rupert was livid.” He said with a laugh. “You know they did it to get a kick, there is nothing secret about the parties its just to keep young kids excited and the guards entertained by chasing off kids who try to sneak in.” He told me with a smirk.
“Oh well that is great.” I laughed “What about you? Any unsuspecting lady taking you as her arm candy?”
“Nah, I prefer to arrive solo and leave well accompanied.” He said with a smirk.
“What a charmer.” I said with an eyeroll.
“You know it love.” He winked and was off once again.
Kenna then came rushing over to me. “Elizabeth, Alpha Jacob just got here, and he wants to meet you.”
“Well I guess we shouldn’t keep him waiting.” Kenna lit up at my words. It was clear she really wanted this to work out. She took me over to where Alpha Jacob was waiting for us.
“Your majesty.” Jacob gave a respectful bow. He was tall with brown hair and was a handsome man.
“Elizabeth please, it’s nice to meet you.” I said taking his hand.
“I heard about your beauty but it’s clear that words could never do you justice.” He said with a charming smile.
“Flattery, they say it’ll get you nowhere.” I teased.
“Well in that case I’ll just have to come up with other ways to charm you.” He said with a smile.
“I have to warn you I am not easily won over, even if it is by a professional charmer.” He put his hand to his chest in mock hurt.
“How you hurt me, but don’t worry I am not easily dissuaded. I really would like to get to know you though Elizabeth. No games just two people getting to know each other. What do you say?” He asked getting a bit more serious and offering his hand.
“I’d like that.” I smiled at him and took his hand in mine. We spent the afternoon talking and getting to know each other. Jacob was funny and easy going and I heard that everyone liked that. I had a nice time with him until it was time to get ready for the ball.
The Moon Celebration was always celestial themed, and everyone dressed for the occasion. Sarah had insisted on designing my gown with her dress maker. I saw it hanging elegantly in my room.
The dress was a deep blue color with gold and silver accent making it look like a starry night. The A line skirt was made of soft flowy tule and the bodice was a corset beaded in the same silver and gold accents. The sleeves were also made of the tule and fell loosely on the shoulders.
The neckline would leave my scar completely exposed and there was no way to hide it with the dress. I decided that I could cover it with my hair and keep it hidden that way.
I quickly got ready and did my hair and makeup. I let my hair loose for once and placed the silver tiara in my hair as well as some silver and gold pieces to match the dress. They stood out in my long dark hair almost matching the look of the dress.
“There you are, come let me help you.” Kenna said helping put in some of the hair pieces. “The party is getting started and Alpha Jacob is looking for you.”
“Oh I didn’t realize he was serious about seeing each other at the party.” Kenna gave me an exasperated look as if it should have been obvious.
“There you look great.” She said assessing her work.
We made our way to the party where most people had already arrived. There was a large balcony with stairs to get down to the main garden field that had been transformed for the event. I dreaded having to make my way down the stairs in the big heels I was wearing. Then I realized that everyone was staring as we made our way down the stairs.
“Why are they staring?” I asked Kenna as we made our way down.
“It’s your dress its stunning.” She said with a smile. I highly doubted it though as she was also wearing a lovely gown.
Jacob and Thomas had come over to the bottom of the stairs once they saw us coming. Their was music playing and people started to talk and buzz around again once we were almost at the bottom. The garden was an open plan designed for parties and had been decorated to the nines. Fairy lights adorned every area and the gold and silver designs made everything look like it was glowing. No doubt Sarah had matched my dress to the theme.
“Your majesty,” Jacob said taking my hand.
“You look amazing.” Thomas complimented me after he had taken in his mate and fawned over her.
“Thank you, you look pretty good yourself.” I smiled at Thomas while taking Jacobs hand.
“Thanks, come on we have a table over here.” He said bringing Kenna close to him and leading us to a table where our friends were. Everyone was talking to each other and they seem to take a liking to Jacob and his Beta Sam. Some people were eating and talking some had already begun dancing.
As I looked around at the people, I saw Tristan with his family and Vivian. They were smiling and laughing with the other people at their table. Vivian had worn an orange dress that was fitted all around with a matching headpiece that sparkled. She looked very pretty in her dress, but she was not the one I had to drag my gaze away from. Tristan was wearing a deep blue tuxedo with silk lapels, making his muscular physique stand out.
“You look beautiful.” Jacob said in a low voice coming closer to me. I pulled my gaze away from Tristan.
“Thank you, you don’t look too bad yourself.” I teased making him smirk.
“Would you like to go on a walk?” He asked offering his hand. I took a quick glance and Tristan who was engulfed in conversation with Vivian.
“Sure.” I said taking his hand and we both got up, while he led the way.
As we made our way past the crowd, I glanced at Tristan one last time but this time my gaze met his. He did not look happy at all, I could feel his gaze burning into me as I walked away with Jacob. We made our way quietly to one of the gardens off to the side, it was the rose garden that had been gifted to Queen Mary by the late King Rupert.
“So why did we come all this way? I can’t imagine it was just for the view.” I asked sensing Jacob wanted to talk to me.
“So very perceptive you are.” He smiled and took my other hand in his. “Well, I just wanted you all to myself. No in all seriousness, I know what is going on in your kingdom and I’d like to help. I know that you have been holding back on attacking until you get more support and, in a position, where your people will be safe. I can help with that we could get married and strengthen your position.” He said with a passion in his voice.
I pulled my hands away from his gently. “Marriage?” I asked a slight panic set in in the back of my mind. The last time I was engaged I had been driven out of my country and had almost been killed.
“Yes marriage.” He said with a smile.
“I…What about your mate? I know you don’t have one but what if you find them later?” I asked. This was a serious concern for any wolf. Marrying someone other than their mate was very rare. Blackburn had told me he lost his mate years before, one of many lies I am sure, but it was what had made me consider his proposal.
“Mates, please its not something I believe in.” He said as if it was a fairytale kids believe in.
“I don…”
“You don’t have to give me an answer yet. I know that your last engagement was hardly ideal. I want to get to know you. You are so intriguing, and I just want to get the chance to get to know you better but I did want to make my intentions clear with you. You don’t realize the effect you have on men Elizabeth and they are all eager to get to know you. I don’t plan on letting you pass me by.” He closed the space between us and kissed me. It was short and sweet but it didn’t spark anything for me.
“Say you’ll think about it?” He asked hopeful. I didn’t have the heart to tell him no, I simply nodded and smiled at him.
