CHAPTER IX PIMAY That night, asleep in the temple quarters, Elissa dreamed she was floating on the peaceful waters of a great gulf. Along the shore, wild deer ran through the verdure, and flocks of colored birds rose from the date palms’ towering fronds. In her vision, she was carried to a palace on a tree-covered hill. From this vantage point she saw a line of full sails heading out to sea. As the ships retreated from the shore, her dream was obscured by a consuming conflagration. She woke agitated and alarmed.
