30. No More Medicine

“I f*****g knew it.” Adrian gritted through his teeth and Jared also took his earpiece out and looked at his boss. “Knew what?” he asked, as he placed the device on the backseat. “The girl wasn’t going to make it easy on me.” Adrian told his assistant, once he himself became enlightened that Diana doubted his intentions and was only agreeing to play along not only to please her aunt but also to find out what Adrian was up to and use that to get rid of him. “Come on now! What did you expect her to do? Anybody shows up in your life after ten years and you’d think that their sudden appearance is completely irrelevant and random? And besides, weren’t you confident that she would still be in love with you and fall right in to your arms once you would show up in front of her? you totally underestimated the girl.” Jared helped Adrian realize that he had misjudged Diana entirely. “Maybe you don’t know her that well after all.” Jared stated and Adrian groaned in agitation. “Had I known ten years ago that she was this crucial for me to become a CEO, I would’ve locked her up and not let her go.” Adrian admitted. “But why does timing always had to suck?” he mumbled, rubbing his lower lip between his thumb and forefinger. “Don’t get too worked up.” Jared patted Adrian’s shoulder, boasting his morale and helping him not lose confidence. “As far as I can see it, there are two parallels to Diana’s logic. One is for her to achieve her Aunt’s affection which is something she craves as well and it can only come when her greedy scrooge Aunt would be showered with perks and gifts. This way, we can control one flank of Diana’s weakness. If we have our Aunt in our hands, we can easily have Diana.” “Yes! But she is an adult and just to please her aunt she wouldn’t agree to go to New York with me and get married. Should we threaten her? or propose her money?” Adrian suggested, as he turned towards Jared, proposing the easy way out and Jared simply shook his head. “You would reveal the truth to her and she would to her Aunt and her Aunt would then find someone, who would offer her more money to get her niece married off to someone and you know who that person would be?” Jared simply revealed the risk that Adrian would be taking by proposing the truth to Diana and the latter only grunted in aggression. “f*****g Zion!” he cursed him cousin who was his biggest competitor and knew that Zion would never miss a chance, if he would find out what was Diana’s role in getting the seat of the CEO. Zion was always slack and his careless behavior was what made him lose the seat of the CEO, even though his own father currently sat on that chair and seeing an easy way to the top, Zion and his father would do everything to get their hands on Diana. “Listen! We don’t have much time.” Jared reminded Adrian, “We need to have something solid in our hands in order to keep Diana attached and dependent on you and while I work on that and also please her Aunt, why don’t you work on strengthening the on other prospect.” Adrian looked at Jared with a questioning look, “What other prospect?” Jared grinned back at him and turned to look in front of him and pointed at the building right outside of which they stood. Adrian groaned and hit his head back on the headrest of his car chair. “Why the hell do I have to go in there?” he complained and Jared only sighed with a sad shrug. “Because if you want to make it believe that you really love her and want to sell those lies to her, you have to make it believable through your actions and besides, consider it as a research work.” With that Jared unlocked the doors of the car and gestured at Adrian to step outside the car. Adrian was about to but a memory hit Jared’s head as he held Adrian back from getting out of the car. “Wait! It’s Wednesday and time for your medicine.” He reminded Adrian, who also felt shocked that he had completely forgotten about the medication that he was on. Adrian cooed as he patted around his suede jacket to find the small bottle of medicine but he couldn’t find any. “Umm… I actually forgot about it and left it at my penthouse where I am staying I guess…” he informed Jared, who looked at his boss in sheer surprise. Adrian was very peculiar and keen about his medicines and he had never forgotten to take any in years because he knew that his normal functioning was based entirely and solely on those medicines and without them, he was nothing. The only reason why he was meticulous about his medicines was because he had engraved it in his heart through the rational fear that if he didn’t take his medicines on time, it could result in any catastrophe and make him lose ground for becoming the CEO. “Do you want me to get your medicines for you?” Jared offered and Adrian shook his head. “Honestly ever since I have been to Los Angeles and away from work a little, I haven’t felt the need to take those medicines.” He informed Jared, who felt joyous to hear that news. He had seen his boss suffering through the worst situations, any time he would miss a pill or two or even running out of the medicines would make Adrian act lost and anxious but seeing how calm Adrian was, only made Jared happy. “You sure about this?” he asked Adrian once again confirming it with him that he was okay about not taking his medicines and Adrian only nodded back at him with affirmation. “Well then… you need to go…” Jared snickered as he once again unlocked the car doors and asked Adrian to step out who only grunted with agitation. He only threw daggers with his gaze at Jared and opened up the door of the car and jumped outside. Jared grinned and waved at Adrian, with the latter only throwing a middle finger at him and slammed the door quite loudly. Adrian straightened up his suede jacket that he wore and looked at the large building in front of him. He took his phone out of his pocket and looked down at the information sent to him by his ‘men’, who had dug out the exact location of the person after whom Adrian was going inside the building. As Adrian walked ahead, he was joined by two guards, each joining him from both sides. Through their black shades, wired headphones that ran behind from their ear and towards their necks, showcased the facts that they weren’t to be messed with and were quite high profile. As Adrian walked ahead and entered the building, where the guards didn’t even bother to stop him and were informed forehand that Adrian Sarmiento would be coming in. they were strictly guided to cause no commotion in his way and let him in and do whatever he pleased to at the school. As Adrian finally vanished from Jared’s vision, he only wished that his boss would make the right choices. Leaving behind a team to take care of Adrian, Jared rolled the car out of the premises and ground of the building, and as he exited through the ironed gates of the building, he passed through a large stone board that stood erect and tall and right next to the entrance of the building. Shiny metal alphabets reflected the beautiful sunrays off them as they were embedded in to the stone board and read, ‘WOODROW WILLSON HIGH SCHOOL’. ------------------------------- What do you think Adrian is doing at a high school?
