“Just give her these medicines on time. She should be grateful that she didn’t fracture a bone or something and only incurred slight damages on her ligaments. She should rest for a few days. All of her X-rays and tests came back clear.” With that the doctor handed over the prescription to Diana, who stood in the middle of the emergency ward of the hospital. She gently bowed and nodded at the doctor, as she grabbed the prescription and walked back towards one of the bed that was covered with a curtain circled all around it. With one sweep, Diana drew the curtain away and found her aunt to be laying on the bed with her cousin standing next to Emily. Diana walked closer to the bed and drew the curtains back on, creating privacy and space from out beds that were placed in the same line. She felt aggravated that her aunt refused to get a private room only because her insurance didn’t cover it and instead, decided to stay in the emergency ward for the night. But she also refused to say another word because if she tried to convince Emily to get a private room, the woman would only argue about spending all the money that she had earned hard for herself and Diana would only feel sad about how Emily missed the whole point and refused to spend her own money on her own well being. “Well gladly all your reports are clear.” Diana sighed and Emily also heaved a breath of relief. Polly relaxed a bit and sat down on the bed next to her mother, “Gosh! I just ran straight from my practice when I got your call.” She told her mother, explaining the cheerleader outfit that she wore in the hospital. “I didn’t even change and just ran straight here.” “You shouldn’t have called her.” Diana told her aunt, “If you want to, you can go back to the school and finish the rest of your day.” “Do I look and sound that stupid that I would leave this and go back to school?” Polly rolled her eyes shamelessly as Diana, who by that point was too tired to even argue with anybody. She felt exhausted. She had quite the night and the morning, that exhausted her mentally and physically. “Why shouldn’t have I called her?” Emily retorted at Diana, taking her aback. “Huh? What do you mean?” “Why shouldn’t I call my own daughter? Why should I rely on you?” Diana couldn’t help but roll her eyes in agitation, that it was time for Emily to throw another one of her tantrums where she would make Diana feel as nothing but a mere adoptive niece of hers. “Mom! Come on! You shouldn’t be like that. if it weren’t for Diana, you wouldn’t have been brought to the hospital in time and…” “If it weren’t for Diana, I wouldn’t be in this condition to begin with.” Emily informed her daughter, rendering Polly entirely silent. “Huh? What do you mean? What did you do?” Polly inquired from Diana, who only silently moaned in exhaustion. She didn’t even want to argue or explain what her aunt was trying to implement and even before she could’ve said another word, Emily immediately spoke up. “What would she say when I caught her in the middle of the act.” “In the middle of what?” Polly had his eyes bulged out as she heard her mother’s words. She immediately shot out of the bed and walked all across the bed and came to stand next to Diana. “What did you do? When I told you to enjoy your time, I didn’t mean it for you to have s*x with Adrian in the middle of the day that also in brought daylight.” “I wasn’t doing any such thing with him.” Diana immediately reprimanded her cousin and then turned towards her aunt, realizing that staying silent was not an option for her. “What act are you talking about? He was just holding my hand.” “And why would he do that?” Emily inquired, trying to dip deep in to the situation. Diana only held her head in her hands and ran it down through her face, feeling extremely begrudged at that moment. “I don’t know, okay? He is acting very weird. He told me that he loves me, which is completely contradicting to how he used to behave with me…” “What? He told you that he loves you?” Polly asked, grabbing Diana’s shoulder and shook her cousin quite vigorously. “Ouch!” Diana commented, feeling completely rattled by Polly’s actions. She immediately freed herself from her cousin’s grip and turned towards her aunt. “We weren’t doing anything and if you think that I feel anything for him, then you are entirely wrong. His feelings are not reciprocated.” “Why?” Emily asked with quite the tamed curiosity. “The guy is handsome, smart and rich. Why wouldn’t you want him? any girl would want him and he seemed quite smitten by you, with the way he was holding you hand and looking at you. for a minute, I thought that there was something seriously going on between the two of you that’s why I was quite shocked and thought that you may have lied to us about everything.” Diana shrugged, “Through his behavior in the past he had shown me that he wanted it. He… he…” Diana couldn’t find the right words to give weight to her claim about how seriously Adrian had made sure to hurt Diana and show her that he felt nothing but hate and loath towards her. “I mean…” she still struggled to explain her feelings when the curtain from the bed partitions were drawn off and all the three ladies turned to find two nurses, encircling Emily’s bed. One nurse, removed the IV bottle from the stand and fixed it on the bed’s head rest behind Emily, while the other began removing the brakes off the bed’s wheels. “What? What is going on?” Emily inquired, feeling anxious as the nurse began to move her bed out of the ward. “Wait! Where are you taking her?” Diana immediately held on to the side support of the bed and the nurse then checked the patient’s information placed on the small clipboard by the backrest of the bed. She then looked at the other nurse and nodded at her. “It is Emily Sanchez.” She confirmed and then turned towards Diana. “She’s being shifted to a private room.” “What? But we didn’t pay for a private room.” Diana argued back. “Exactly! And you can not forcefully shift me to a private room and then later on threaten me to pay for it. I know my constitutional rights and I know exactly how these big foundations work and mooch off people like me, who are honest and hard working. I know you guys detect high value people like me by just looking at our cards and our clothes and faces. But you will not be able to extract a single ounce of my hand worked money out of me.” Emily crossed her legs and sat up straight, thinking that her poster would be strong enough to stop anybody from moving her. But one of the nurses, who had a strong and broad built and was around five feet and eleven inches, simply shrugged and began dragging Emily’s bed out of the emergency ward and Polly jumped ahead to stop her but just a single daggering look from the nurse, made Polly jump back and Emily only wondered what she would do next. Diana looked at the other nurse, who was the shorter of the two and had began to walk towards the reception in the emergency ward to sign Emily out of the ward. Both of the two nurse held quite the notoriously infamous tired of people and their drama look on their faces, as they simply didn’t care about people and their tantrums, since it was their job on the daily and knew just how to handle people like Emily, who always placed hospitals in the context of big industrial corporate complexes. “Excuse me!” Diana rushed after the nurse who was still present in the ward, “I am really sorry about my Aunt but can you please tell me at least why are you shifting her to a private room, when we didn’t ask for one and the doctor said that she would be checked out before midnight. Our insurance does not cover a private room and…” “Don’t worry.” The nurse stated, finally giving a calm reply to Diana, once she noticed that Diana was being well versed and acting meticulously, “The room is already paid for.” “Paid for?” Diana asked in confusion and then the nurse guided her towards the reception, where Diana rushed to and there, she found Adrian standing with a team of doctors and next to him stood his assistant Jared, who noticed Diana, standing next to the coffee vending machine, placed by the very corner of the reception. Diana looked exhausted and quite perplexed and once Jared noticed her, he leaned forward and gently whispered in to Adrian’s ears. Adrian nodded at Jared and excused himself away from the doctors, walking up to Diana. “How is your Aunt, now?” he asked Diana, who shook her head. “Did you pay for the private room?” she asked back in an obnoxiously pressing tone and standing only a few feet away from them was Jared, who hissed silently, noticing just how sharp and venomous Diana’s tone was. He did have to give credit to his boss, who was being pragmatically and quite surprisingly patient with the girl. He knew just how sharp his boss was, who did not tolerate anyone with a sour attitude but he was doing just so with that girl. He only prayed that the girl would give in to his temptations and soon and buy whatever Adrian had to sell to her. “Yes! I did.” Adrian admitted, keeping his tone calm and Diana loathed, just how calm the man was. In the past, he wouldn’t take her pestering questions or even her comments and found her to be extremely fractious but seeing just how patient he was with her, made her extremely annoyed in return. “Why are you doing this?” she asked with quite the exasperated tone. “Because I believe that I was the one who hurt you Aunt and it is basic human decency to own up to your mistake and take care of what you have done.” Diana ran a hand through her hair, extremely infuriated over how lightly and calmly Adrian took the entire situation to be. Jared noticed her expressions and her gestures but he remained calm and quiet and watched as his boss ignored Diana’s presence and her actions completely and continued speaking in his defense. “She wouldn’t be in such a situation if it weren’t for me. So, I have to make sure to pay for what I have done. It is really heart breaking for me, when I came here and saw that she had to get treated in the emergency ward because her insurance wouldn’t cover for a private room. She should be getting the proper treatment.” “I meant…” she only scoffed with sarcasm, “I meant, why would you pay for the hospital and show up back in my life after ten years when I am happy on my own. Why are you doing this? Why are you forcing yourself on me? Why are you doing everything that I did that you hated and made it clear to me that you don’t even want to see my face!” Diana’s voice rose an octave high by the end of her complaints and everyone around the reception, did turn their heads towards Diana and Jared also felt conscious, noticing how tired and irritated Diana sounded by that point. He looked at his boss, who took only a step ahead and he fisted his hands in regret and cringe, knowing that Diana may have earned a punch or a knuckle from her boss. ------------------------------ Do you think Adrian lost his patience with Diana?
