25. The Right Choice?

Diana slid the door to Emily’s room and walked inside, where Polly was pacing back and forth around her Mother’s bed, while Emily sat holding her head in her hands, panting with exertion and hoping that Diana wouldn’t let go off such a rich man, who was willing to spend on them that also without a single ounce of hesitation.

Just as Diana entered inside the room, Polly took a pause in her feet and immediately rushed to Diana and Emily also sat up straight and turned her attention completely towards Diana.

“Well… what did you do? What did you say to him?” Polly asked and Diana looked at her cousin in completely silence, as she recalled everything that she told to Adrian.

As she narrated her side of the story, down by the reception, in the same anxious manner, was pacing Jared, who was wondering what was taking his boss so long.

Even though he knew that the longer Adrian took, the better it would be for them, since it would only mean that Adrian was taking his time to bring Diana around.

He wished that Adrian would be able to achieve the task and make Diana agree to go out with him, so that they can quickly get married and then Adrian can finally ascend to be the CEO and Jared would enjoy the position of the Head Secretary of the Sarmiento Corporations.

Jared took a pause in his steps when he saw Adrian walking out of the elevator and coming towards the reception.

Jared immediately rushed towards Adrian and held out his hands in front of him.

“Well…?”

He asked with his eyes gleaming and begging for a positive answer and Adrian looked at Jared for a moment with a grim expression keeping his lips straight but then slowly his lips began lifting up from the left corner, that turned in to a huge smile.

“We did it! I got her number.”

He jumped up in joy and Jared also clapped his hands together and threw his fists up in the air.

“Yes! f*****g yes.”

He hooted out and loud and a nurse at the reception got up and immediately shushed the two men, who were causing disturbance and commotion at a hospital.

Adrian and Jared immediately straightened up, as the nurse threw deathly stares at the two and immediately rushed out of the hospital and continued their little celebration down in the parking lot.

“f*****g yes!”

Jared couldn’t believe that they were still able to win in this battle, that had started to look like an early defeat.

“I can’t believe that we have dealt with so many serious and stupid clients but this one is something that is giving me more joy than I have ever experienced before. I cannot tell you just how much adrenaline I am feeling in my veins right now. I swear, I am scared that I might get addicted to this whole thing.” He informed Adrian who couldn’t help but laugh at Jared, as he also hopped on to the passenger seat and buckled up the belt around his body.

“I know it was hard but didn’t I tell you when I left.”

Jared began driving the car and just as he heard Adrian’s words, he then remembered that the last time he had seen his boss leaving with Diana, he was quite confident about returning back with good news.

“Oh yeah! The last time you left, I remember you were quite confident that you would be able to get her number. So, when did you know that she would give in?”

Adrian smirked, as he remembered the very moment, he caught Diana’s weakness.

“She has a gullible conscience. It wasn’t hard to get her to give in but I guess, I just needed to find something to make her feel apprehensible and grateful that she had me. Paying for her Aunt’s hospital bills did just the word and I am pretty sure that her Aunt is one greedy woman and she must have put some sort of pressure on Diana.”

“Hmm… if that is the case then should we start with the phase two of our plan?” Jared c****d at Adrian, who nodded with a smirk.

“Yes! It is about time we start with phase two.”

As Adrian mapped out the next steps in his plan, Diana stood in front of her cousin and Aunt, narrating to them the whole incident of how she ended up giving Adrian her number and what truly made her change her mind and give in to Adrian’s temptations.

“Wait!” Diana called him, as Adrian was about to leave.

“Huh?” he also didn’t waste a second before turning around and looking at Diana with his eyes gleaming with hope. “Yes? What is it?”

“Umm…” Diana shyly pulled a strand of her hair behind her ear and looked down at her feet.

She closed her eyes and contemplated her options and choices for a moment.

‘I don’t have much to lose.’

She wondered, as she took in a deep breath to calm her nerves down but the attempt to look confident and composed in front of Adrian was entirely futile, since he could tell just by looking at Diana’s face that she was quite nervous.

‘Here goes nothing.’

She made up her mind, as she finally lifted her head and looked at Adrian with a poker expression.

“Give me your phone.”

She asked and Adrian felt confused by her words.

“Huh? What do you mean?” he asked, wondering what Diana was up to.

“Don’t you want my number?” she stated directly and a wide smile appeared on Adrian’s face as he immediately took his phone out and knew that he had won in the games of wits.

He immediately passed the phone to Diana, who took it and punched her number and passed the phone back to Adrian.

“Umm, I guess you can call me whenever you want to.”

She told him and immediately turned around and rushed back in to her aunt’s room.

Adrian also remained calm, as he saved Diana’s number and pushed the phone back inside his pant’s pockets.

He kept his cool, but only until he was finally inside the elevator and once the door of the elevator closed, he threw his fists up in the air and hooted in excited.

“Yes! Finally.”

While Diana rushed back in to the room and was immediately hurdled by her Aunt and cousin.

Once Diana had narrated the whole incident to her Aunt and cousin and told them that she had decided to give Adrian a chance and her number, Emily couldn’t help but be on cloud nine.

She immediately grabbed Diana’s wrist and pulled her closer, making her sit down on the bed, next to her.

“I am so happy, that you made the right choice. I think the guy really likes you and even if he doesn’t and is after you for some ulterior motive, you can always get rid of him. you know, I have so many connections with the commissioner and the police. You don’t have to worry about a thing.”

She gently patted Diana’s head and she couldn’t help but feel moist collect in her eyes, as Emily was being this kind and loving towards her after such a long while.

The right choice? I doubt that!

Diana wondered to her own self and then looked back at Emily, who was gently patting her hair.

The last time Emily was this gentle towards Diana, was before she got engaged to Ralph and after him, the relationship between the Aunt and Niece had become completely sour.

But seeing her mother open up and be that kind towards Diana, even Polly couldn’t but feel happy to see that Emily was finally being nice towards her cousin and perhaps maybe, their little happy family would become one and whole again.

She only hoped that Adrian would prove be the best for the family and his presence would bring nothing but happiness to her home.

But little did she know the real motive that Adrian held and the turn that their lives were about to take was something that none of the three women had imagined even in their wildest dreams.
