“You can’t get rid of me that easily.”
Silas was laying on her bed, his head propped on his elbow. His long legs were hanging off the edge.
Harley pointed at him. “You’re not real!”
Silas rolled his eyes and gave a large sigh. “Please. We both know that denying the truth won’t make it untrue. Now, we need to talk about your contract and what your duties for me entail.”
He sat up. “Come here.”
He patted the bed beside him. Harley shook her head, still reeling from the fact that she might not be crazy and that she had a otherworldly being in her bedroom.
Silas narrowed his eyes. “Come. Here.”
He curled his pointer finger. Harley felt like hands grabbed her by the waist and pulled her to the bed. She was forced to sit beside him by an invisible force. She tried to get up, but it was like she was glued to the sheets.
Her face twisted into a horrified look. Her lips downturned as she looked down at her body that was now out of her control. Her stomach rolled as she was on the brink of being sick. She swallowed the feeling and jerked her head to look at Silas.
“What the Hell are you doing?” She wanted to shriek, but her voice wouldn’t go louder than an inside speaking voice. The inside of her throat felt like it had been slathered with numbing gel. It was almost as if her voice box had been set to a certain volume and there was no way to override the command.
“Keeping you from embarrassing yourself, obviously.” He slowly blinked at her like a cat. “Are there any other nonsensical questions you’d like to ask?”
Harley clamped her mouth shut and glared. She thought about biting him, seeking as the only thing she had control of was her jaw, but the look in Silas’s eyes told her that he knew what she was thinking. And it was probably a bad idea.
Dashing the idea away, she shook her head in a harsh jerk. Silas smiled like the grinch.
“Good. I’ll cut to the chase. You’re my slave which means anything I say goes. That means if I tell you to jump off a bridge, you do it.” He leaned back on his arms. The hem of his black shirt raised. He was wearing a black belt. The silver buckle glinted as a sliver of morning sun seeped through the cheap curtains. “But you’ve got an important job ahead of you.”
He tilted his head. His dark eyes slowly appraised Harley, starting at her face and drifting down to her chest, waist, legs, and then her feet. When his gaze went back up, Harley swore she felt a ghosting of a touch along her back. Her body went rigid, even when it was controlled. The touch didn’t feel like it was meant to be predatory, but when she was helpless, it didn’t matter what the intention was. She was ready to fight even if she physically couldn’t.
“We might have to work on your style. You’re pretty enough, but that isn’t going to cut it.”
Harley curled her upper lip. “I’m not some doll you can dress up.”
Silas raised a brow. “No. You’re not. You’re my slave. I own your body, your soul, everything.”
A lump formed in her throat. “I didn’t ask for this.”
The smile dropped from his face. The invisible hold on Harley shoved her forward until she was inches away from Silas. His eyes pinned her in a stare.
“That’s where you’re wrong, Harley. You called for me. Stop denying it. The sooner you do, the easier it will be for you to accept your new life.”
She couldn’t. She wouldn’t.
Her whole life she’d been bossed around by people that thought they owned her. She wasn’t some toy to be passed around and used as they pleased. She was a person with her own dreams, ideas, and feelings. If she didn’t want to do something, she wasn’t going to do it. Even if a f*****g self-centered demon was standing in her way.
“What if I don’t?”
That seemed to throw Silas off.
“Don’t what?”
“Don’t accept it. You might be able to control my body, but can you control my mind?”
By Silas’s silence, Harley assumed no.
The hold on Harley’s body seemed to lift just slightly. She tested the loosened restraints and stood up. Her tendons felt like wound tightly metal that was about to snap. Much like the strings on a guitar.
The look in Silas’s eyes darkened and it made Harley’s confidence waver for a second. She ignored the sudden rush of fear and turned her chin up as if to silently say “kiss my ass”. It might have been the dumbest thing she’d done since inadvertently making a deal with Silas, but she wasn’t going to be a submissive dog that rolled over whenever its master said to.
Silas was going to have to beat her “disobedience” out of her if he wanted someone like that.
Silas kept his narrowed gaze on her for a prolonged moment. His intense gaze didn’t waver from her own and if it wasn’t for Harley’s own stubbornness, she might have looked away and rolled over just like she said she wasn’t going to. But Harley was a stubborn girl that didn’t back down from almost anything.
Not even a supernatural creature like Silas that could break her neck without lifting a finger could change that.
Silas slowly stood. He slid off the bed like water. At his full height, he made Harley feel like she was an ant looking up at a giant. Her heart skipped a beat, but she still didn’t look away.
“This is what I’m going to do.”
She shivered at his low and calm voice. If he was angry, he covered it very well.
“I’m going to give you a day to come to the terms that your life is no longer yours. Twenty-four hours. That’s it. When the time is up, I will be back and you will obey me.”
Harley didn’t get the chance to talk back. Silas was gone in the blink of an eye.
