2. Betrayal

Harley gasped for air as the man’s fingers dug deep into the sides of her throat. She felt his fingernails piercing skin. She tried to yell around the gag, but it sounded more like a gurgle as spit ran down her face. For just a split second, she thought she saw something move from behind the man. It was a shadow. Dark like liquid. But it had to of been a flicker of her imagination. She could really think too hard onto it as she lost her ability to breath and the man didn’t seem like he was going to let go of her throat anytime soon. She struggled against his hands, but she wasn’t going to please. The man seemed to know as much as he returned her own dark glare. There was a twinkle of evil in those eyes and if she wasn’t fading to unconsciousness, she might have been able to look away. She didn’t want this to be the last thing she saw, but it looked like she was going to be forced to. Finally—almost when it was too late—the other man waiting outside the van stepped in. “Karl, can you lighten up? I’d rather not have Sam chewing my ass out over one dead girl.” The man now squeezing Harley’s throat really tight, who she now knew was Karl, loosened his grip a little. It was just enough so that she could get a breath of air through her nose. She couldn’t gasp like she wanted to with the ball gag in her mouth, but the darkness at the corners of her eyes were receding at least. Though that dark shadow kept flickering behind Karl. It was starting to create a more solid form and she didn’t like that. Karl gave her a look like she was an annoying pest he had to take care of. “This w***e isn’t worth my time anyway,” he spat out, shoving her to the ground. Harley let out a yell of pain as she landed on her ass. Without her hands or feet to break her fall, she slammed into the hard surface of the van’s flooring. Pain shot up her spine and her tailbone shrieked with pain. She let out a sob that she couldn’t hold back. She rolled to her side, whimpering as just moving that little caused her great torture. “I bet you’re going to cooperate now, aren’t yeah?” The slimy bastard had the audacity to stand over her unmoving body and look down at her like he was the king of the world. The other man didn’t seem to enjoy Karl’s antics either. “Will you shut up? We need to go. Now.” Karl sent a glare over his shoulder aimed at the guy, but he complied and grabbed Harley once more. She gave up kicking and wiggling. The throbbing in her lower back took away all of her strength and it was taking everything in her to do bust out crying or screaming. Her feet dragged beneath her as Karl pulled her out of the van. The other man she only got a glimpse of. Red hair and dark eyes. He wasn’t ugly, but he was plain, though she didn’t care about any of it now. She knew that she needed to memorize everything so she knew how to escape from here and could tell the authorities about the people that had taken her, but she was so receded in the back of her mind from the trauma that nothing was really sticking. She looked around, slowly, and all she saw was a large warehouse looking building in the middle of a wooded area. There weren’t many places around where she lived that there was this densely packed trees. The city barely had any nature left in it as the concrete buildings took up every available space. They had to been driving for hours to end up in a place like this. Her heart was lodged in the middle of her throat. She really needed to get out of there. They hadn’t even started doing to the worst things they were going to do to her. She already knew that somehow. The redheaded man opened the large door to the warehouse. Karl all but tossed Harley’s limp body through the door and into the building. It was dark and cold. Harley shivered in her confines. The thick rope burned her skin. Her ankles and wrists had to of been rubbed raw from all the struggling she’d been doing. It didn’t matter now though. The redheaded man locked the door, sealing the three of them inside. But as the lights switched on, Harley found that they weren’t alone actually. There were more people in here with them. Out of the five or so people standing in the middle of the warehouse, there was only one that stole Harley’s complete attention. Her heart sunk even further down in her gut as her eyes fell upon a blond girl around her age who was standing by a tall man with an ugly look on his face. Harley couldn’t think straight was she was shoved toward the people. Her eyes frantically looked at all the faced of the people, but she was so shocked and disturbed that she couldn’t comprehend anything. Quickly, she forgot what the people looked like except for the man and the blond girl who she knew all too well. Kenzy Greene. Harley’s cousin. She’d been the one that Harley had been meeting up before she was kidnapped and she lost her memory of what had happened. Harley let out a whimper as she was shoved to her knees in front of them. She didn’t know if Kenzy had been kidnapped too, but she wasn’t restrained like Harley was and the man had a firm hand on the back of her neck. Not to keep her still though. He was holding her like he just wanted to show his possession off. Nothing more. Harley’s stomach twisted into knots as realization started to sink in. Kenzy hadn’t been kidnapped. She wasn’t being forced here. She was a part of this.
