Three months later.
"Cassie, take all this wood to the market and exchange it for wheat as usual," Evelyn—Cassie's mother, told the daughter to do her daily work as usual.
Cassie reluctantly got up from her seat and put the book she hadn't finished reading on the table. The girl had to do this task even though she didn't want to because only the two of them lived in this house. There is no father or other sibling who will help. Cassie is an only child, and if she asks where her father is, her mother will always answer that her father is dead.
So, even though she is lazy, like it or not, the girl always has to obey her mother's words because there is no one she can rely on other than herself.
“What if I get bullied by those Alphas and Betas there again?” Cassie asked her mother as she moved the wood into her hands.
"Just report them to Uncle Roggy. He will definitely help you immediately get rid of those naughty werewolves," the mother suggested.
“What if Uncle Roggy isn't there? Other people won't want to help me," Cassie replied again, still unsatisfied with the answer.
"Then just hit them using the wood in your hand."
Evelyn's answer invited Cassie's laughter to come out on the air. She knew the sentence was just a joke because Cassie had asked the same question too many times every day. But if she thought about it, it didn't seem to matter if she did that when there was really a problem.
Cassie continued to move the remaining wood into a small cart. When all the wood had been moved, and Cassie just had to go to the market, Evelyn suddenly called her daughter.
“Cassie, you don't need to worry anymore. The three Alphas who previously dared to bother you disappeared from the village, while the remaining ones will not dare to touch you because the Village Chief has set rules for everyone here. If they keep teasing you with a few sentences, ignore them and pretend not to hear,” Evelyn spoke very softly when advising Cassie.
Cassie immediately smiled a little. She knew her mother was worried even though she didn't say it directly. “I understand, Mother. I can take care of it, don't worry."
After that, Cassie finally said goodbye and immediately went to the market. Years of living in this village had made Cassie memorize several shortcuts that could easily take her to her destination in just a few minutes.
According to a message from her mother, Cassie immediately went to Mr. Roggy to exchange wood. Even though Cassie knew that the man was known to be stingy, he wouldn't refuse to exchange food for firewood belonging to a poor family like Cassie's. Mr. Roggy is very close to his mother, and that may be why he is kind to them.
"Cassie, you came again today," said Mr. Roggy as soon as he saw the girl approaching him.
Cassie smiled kindly. "Please help again this time, sir," said her politely, bowing her head.
"Don't worry, I have prepared food for you." The man immediately removed a bag of wheat deliberately separated for Cassie to carry. Cassie also moved all the wood from the cart to the place provided by Mr. Roggy.
Suddenly, a man ran into the market with a pale face. He looked terrified, as if someone was chasing him.
All attention turned to the man, and Cassie was also curious about what happened. The girl was squatting because she had to arrange the wood, so Cassie had to look up to see.
"Hide! There's an attack in the countryside! Quickly save yourselves if you don't want to get caught!" The man's words suddenly made the entire market chaotic.
"What attack? Who attacked?" Everyone was busy talking to each other to question the truth.
"How could there be an attack on the village?" Cassie muttered confusedly.
Not long after, a gunshot was heard, which actually came from a housing complex in the village. This was followed by the arrival of several men who started messing up the market and arrested all the traders and buyers there.
Cassie was shocked and crouched down again to hide. She exchanged glances with Mr. Roggy, who was also hiding in his own shop. Screams started to be heard everywhere, and Cassie became afraid that she would be caught too.
“Cassie, dash! Find a safer place!” Mr. Roggy exclaimed in panic. A trembling Cassie didn't know what to do.
When one of the men came to her and wanted to arrest Cassie, Mr. Roggy immediately left his hiding place to help Cassie. He fought the man with all his might. “Hurry and go!” he ordered Cassie.
Full of fear, Cassie immediately got up and ran in the other direction. She managed to escape from her captors and hide behind a pile of hay. "What actually happened here?!" she muttered in a trembling voice, when she peeked through the hole, the whole mess was right before her eyes.
"Mother! Gosh, what about Mom?!” Cassie became panicked and worried when she remembered that an attack had also occurred in the village, she had to return to save her mother immediately.
Secretly, Cassie immediately slipped away and went through a secret passage that only she knew about. She returned to the village quickly, and it turned out that the situation in the village was even worse than at the market.
From her current location, Cassie saw all the people in the village gathered in one open place with their hands tied so they couldn't resist. Both men and women, all of them had been caught, Cassie looked at the faces there one by one, but she couldn't find where her mother was.
The village where she lives is not that big, so it should be easy for Cassie to find her mother. But for some reason, she wasn't there, and Cassie became increasingly worried. If she hadn't been caught, where would her mother be now?
'I have to look for Mom, maybe she managed to hide at home so no one can catch her. I have to find her,' thought Cassie determinedly.
Without fear, the girl immediately moved from her hiding place and slipped slowly into her house. Fortunately, the search seemed to have stopped a few minutes ago because all the men dressed in black had gathered in the field. No one was around anymore, so Cassie could easily move around quietly.
Cassie made it in!
"I'm safe," she muttered a little as she breathed a sigh of relief. Cassie immediately went around looking for her mother.
Cassie tried her best not to make a sound for fear of being discovered. She looked for Evelyn in every corner of the house, but the woman could not be found anywhere. Where else can Cassie find her mother if not here?
“Mother, where are you?” Cassie muttered softly. The girl started to get frustrated. She also felt afraid that something would happen to her mother. Evelyn is the only one Cassie has right now. If she lost that woman, too, Cassie would definitely be very sad.
There were few rooms that Cassie could go to because their house was tiny, and there wasn't a safe place to hide a human body. Cassie wanted to move into the room because maybe she could find some clues left by Evelyn. Even though it was just a guess, there was no harm in looking.
However, just as Cassie wanted to move, her ears first heard the sound of approaching footsteps. Cassie immediately backed away until her back hit the wood behind her. Cassie was in the dining room at this time, so she couldn't see who had come to the front door.
Cassie grabbed whatever object was near her to use as a weapon of resistance, just in case one of the perpetrators came. A knife was in her hand now, and Cassie gripped it very tightly.
Even though Cassie is an Omega who lacks the strength of an Alpha, she has high self-confidence, so she won't be afraid to stab anyone who tries to catch her.
